The Fate franchise has some phenomenal writing and today I go over my favorite moment from Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. Hope you enjoy it! Hi everyone! My name is Rathor and I am just starting this channel where I just want to make videos analyzing some of my favorite shows, games, or characters and share it with all of you. I'd love to hear any thoughts you might have in the comments about this video, any recommendations for different topics to cover in the future, or tips to improve my editing or essays because I am just self-ta...
Honestly him and his team were the last of the persona users in that timeline
Loved this!!!!
Its such a underrated show (now anyway)
First episode I watch was the 3 or 4 the one that had Nina in it and from there I was hooked I watched it on Toonami it was my first real anime I had picked up I had something to look forward to every Saturday night till I found a streaming site that had it and went over the rails watching them as quickly as I could it’s on if the few shows to make me cry over each death this show ties every thing up in a beautiful knot there is no filler every scene serves it’s purpose and builds up to perfect ending everyone wants to see there here achieve
I really like the way the first verse is recontextualized to be bad actually in reference to yaldabaoth and (somewhat) maruki
Bruh maruki did nothing wrong
So beautiful! Great job
Thank you!
Ohhhh my heart held out until both Joker and Maruki reached for the sky... then I crumbled!!! XD Thanks for making such a dynamic and energetic amv for this awesome game!
I want Maruki in my life. Maybe as a mentor, older brother, idk. I just find comfort in his personality and caring behavior.
Portable of pain, sorrow? I don't care, tell world and God I quit

Honestly, if you love what you're doing just keep doing it. It doesn't matter how well your content is received as long as you enjoy making it. So if you want to give it another shot, go for it!
This is pretty good you got yourself a sub
Thank you for your support! Glad you enjoyed it!
I finished the game a few hours ago, Original P5 was my favorite game for plenty of reasons (and because It arrived at the perfect time in my life, where I was really struggling with life) and it's amazing how after all these years, they managed to make Maruki, a character that spoke to me like no other in this game, I was just perplexed the whole final act, in the end, where you have the fist fight with him, I was literally saying over and over "Please no, I don't want to do this, you are my favorite Maruki, I don't want to hurt you, please don't die after this" it was magical, I really sympathized with him, he's my second favorite character in any form of multimedia, hell, he was my favorite confidant BEFORE the third semester, this just elevated him to another level. He's just amazing, my favorite antagonist ever. P.S: Great Video! You just won a new subscriber 😄
Really glad you enjoyed the video! The original P5 also came at a rough time for me and P5R surprisingly came at an even rougher time and the final arc was easily my favorite new change. The entire boss fight is such a well-done climax and that final fistfight hurts like hell.
Very wonderful video highlighted not only Maruki’s growth, but yours as well. Loved it, and hope to see more like this from you :)
Thank you so much, and don't worry more analysis videos are coming! I finally finished my finals so I have some time to edit and upload.
Whenever I think about Maruki, I feel like I find out something new about him and about myself. That’s how brilliant of a character he is
I agree, there is a lot of depth to this character that even I probably haven't figured out, despite the amount of analysis I had to do for this video.
I didn't need to cry more but thanks it was beautiful ;-;
I am glad you liked it even if it brought out some tears. This final goodbye was truly a tearjerker.
@@rathor1075 it was but to me it was perfect
@@torainsmash7351 I agree, the perfect and necessary conclusion to a key part of my childhood
"Why Unlimited Blade Works works as a sequel" You mean, "why Fate/Zero works as a prequel".
I mean I think watching fate zero first makes UBW hit so much harder. watching UBW first would have been so confusing
Quite a beautiful way of describing the Third Semester, my friend. Almost poetic, in a way. I’m a huge fan of Maruki myself. And if he asked me to accept his reality, I would. No hesitation. Even so, the fact Atlus included him at all as such a relatable and sympathetic character is very touching. Especially when you look at the beta cutscene of his palace dialogue and see he was originally gonna be just another evil palace ruler like the others. He struck a cord with me on such a deep level that I made a video explaining my reasoning for supporting his actions in the game. And while it’s nothing more than a glorified PowerPoint, I’m really happy to be able to discuss such an intriguing proposition as Persona 5 Royal presents through the struggle between Maruki and the Phantom Thieves: that of truth and growth, versus comfort and happiness.
So happy you enjoyed it! I honestly think a lot of people would accept his reality and it's not shameful to admit. But the fact that once you realize that all these characters' struggles and pain are why they are the people they are today, I realized why I shouldn't accept his reality. But I LOVE the fact that he is not just a black and white character so it feels so morally taxing to fight him.
Rathor Yup. It’s just my opinion of course, but if you ask me, growth and adaptation are a means to an end. As a child, you shift your behavior to line up with what your authority figures enforce under normal circumstances, right? Same holds true across one’s lifetime. You get to know your co-workers so that you’ll be able to better work with them in the future. Or perhaps simply to make some friends. You buy gifts for your romantic interest in the hopes they’ll like it, associate that positive feeling with you, and reciprocate it. You reserve negative comments towards your superiors until they’re out of range to hear it because you they have sway over your immediate future. Etc. But in Maruki’s reality, you can have whatever your heart desires while completely bypassing this part of the process. So if you think about it, there wouldn’t really be any need for such things. And if your desires shift over time, which we know to be the case from the concept of “happiness equilibrium”, Maruki can simply accommodate the new desire. Or perhaps make you feel fulfillment with your existing one. I know that sounds rather sad, but if mankind is happy, with no negative repercussions aside from some memory shuffling, it truly is the best outcome for all involved. But that’s just my perspective. And I’m glad you have your own. I just find joy in gushing about this topic because it’s so fascinating.
@@blueshadeseraphim6926 Hi don't worry about gushing about this ending it's completely understandable. Hell, I wrote an essay and edited a video about it. As for Maruki's reality, I definitely agree about the happiness that his reality provides. Someone that chooses his reality would be able to rest easy that they would live a good life. It would be completely fine. Everyone would live a good life, living their life based on what their own desires were. However, the flaw is that society itself as a whole would not be as fine as each individual if that makes sense. This aspect is a bit more of my own opinion but I love that the ending allows you to make your own opinions and have these conversations about his morals. The flaw that society would face is that it would completely stagnate. People would not progress. They would live content in their own happiness and not face any hardships. But it is through struggle and hardship that each individual grows. For example, each one of the Phantom Thieves. All of them faced tremendous hardship and strife but because of those struggles, they gained the resolve to rebel against this cruel world. They learned to take ownership of their own lives and bring courage to other victims. Yes, all of the Phantom Thieves would've been happy in Maruki's reality, but their happiness would be limited to their desires. They never would've met each other if not for their struggles and camaraderie in that struggle. An interesting thing I noticed in a New Game+ of Persona 5 Royal is that, if you remember the cafe lunch you have with Akechi and Kasumi where Akechi asks Kasumi what she thinks of the Phantom Thieves, her answer actually applies almost directly to Maruki's reality. She says that the fact that Phantom Thieves (Maruki) helps others is a great act, but she simply cannot agree with their methods (changing one's reality). She says that the Phantom Thieves' (Maruki's) existence, in the long run, wouldn't be good for society because when someone is faced with a problem to overcome they must do it themselves. Help is fine, but the person has to have the initiative to truly create lasting change, but that initiative is something that Maruki's reality takes away. She says that if we keep using the Phantom Thieves (Maruki) as a safety net (simply rewriting reality when hardships happen) then people would stop making a conscious effort to progress. It's another interesting opinion on the matter that is hidden within the game and I definitely recommend checking it out if you're interested.
Rathor Of course. I see your point. Life in general is one giant game of risk/reward. And sadly, one that is about as random and unpredictable as possible. Whatever you may choose to do with the time and opportunities you’re presented, there are no refunds. It’s actually a lot like the game of pool you play with Akechi in his social links: you can line up your shots as carefully and precisely as you want. But sometimes a ball may hit an unrelated obstacle and veer everything off course. Be it freak occurrences, other people who are going about their own lives, or any other unexpected factors that can cause your efforts to be... well, overruled. But at the end of the day, much like how energy can’t be created or destroyed, you can’t get more out of your life than what you put into it. Even so, I wouldn’t mind having Maruki’s reality as an actual thing one can choose to turn to in those times where you legitimately are at one of those low points in life that came through no fault of your own. In this hypothetical scenario, people can choose to live life as it is, or if it’s too overwhelming, they can enter Maruki’s reality while they find a path forward. Or if they do choose, they can remain there for as long as they want. That way, people like Joker who want to take on the world can do exactly that without constraint, and those like Sumire who without Maruki’s help likely would’ve stopped dead in her tracks from her depression unable to move on would have a safety net to help them bounce back.
@@blueshadeseraphim6926 Exactly. Life is just so uncontrollable and Maruki is the picturesque example of that. From Shido stopping his research to Rumi's tragedy. Sumire as well with the sudden death of her sister. It makes complete narrative sense why the characters would choose this reality while also making complete narrative sense why characters that rather take on the world like Joker and Akechi would reject that reality. It's what makes the writing of this final arc so captivating. Not to mention, Maruki is very accommodating with how Joker and Akechi feel about the reality which just goes to show how he was never a bad person. Just a broken man trying to fix the broken people in our society.
goated ending
Absolutely
