Thank you so much for your video! These new lids are much too difficult to get off. The snap-tight design is useless if you can't get the thing open to begin with. I was seriously about to return the two I just bought. I absolutely hate this new design. I probably won't buy McCormick spices anymore because they have made them so difficult to open. For those with arthritis in their hands, it's beyond difficult and actually painful trying to get these open.

They need to fire the dummy who came up with this lid design, and the one who approved it. I can just see them in my mind's eye -- a bunch of imbeciles sitting in corporate meetings nodding their heads emphatically that consumers would love it OR they're laughing their asses off.

I only found this vid because I was looking for how to open the bottle.

Looks great, love the snap, BUT... I shouldn't have to go online to figure out how to open it. Even after wrapping with a wet, hot paper towel, I still had to get a pair of locker pliers to open it. This design will be difficult for us senior citizens.

I couldn’t get the lid off. Frustrating. Pried underneath the lid with a pointy tip of a knife in several places until it popped off. I would say this is a FAIL as far as the design. Make sure the blade is turned away from you, as the knife slips! Geeeze.

I used a pair of pliers to loosen and open up the seasoning top. Worked like a charm after struggling.

I gust ran hot water over the “neck” of my pumpkin spice bottle and was able to twist off!!!!!!

I had to slide a knife across the bottom of the lid to break up the glue, and then was able to twist and open. Still not a great solution…and should be way easier..

boolittle has the right idea. Heat the lid with a hair dryer for a minute or so, then with the adhesive now soft you can twist it off and remove the inner seal. This was maximally frustrating until I found the comments here on this video, which gave the keys to knowing how to remove: 1. The jar lid twists off (not snaps off) and 2. heat from a simple hair dryer can help a lot and does it in a minute or less.

This new packaging is absurd!!!!I cannot get to the seal, no matter what I do....I will never buy this brand again!...I guess the lip pops off? But, how can you tell? I cannot get it to "pop"off and I am ready to add this to my cookies....disgusted!

Thanks for sharing your experience. The same thing happened to me as you, but I discovered that. Just tap on the base with a spoon and around the lid and it will help loosen the lid and you can open it by hand.😀👍

Thanks for the info. New packaging is not made for old people with hand issues. There's no way I can grip that tiny tab & rip the top off as shown. I'll have to cut perforations around the top with a knife first. Then put it in an old canister & change brands.🤨 Too bad as I've been using VP for 4 years now. Could have copied the oatmeal top with a much smaller amount of plastic.

Last time I buy small bottles of McCormick spices due to the horrendously flawed design of the lid for initial removal. Just plain stupid and lazy for the company to obviously not test these bottles for real world application.

I’m so glad you did this video. I thought something was wrong with me😅. The taller bottles were easier to open but these short ones I ended up getting a knife like you to get it open😂

I always thought childproof packaging should be illegal. It's not my problem if your stupid kid drinks antifreeze. Let Darwinism work for once.

The new packaging sucks. I saved a plastic one and empty the cardboard canister contents into it.

These new lids are terrible. What the H were they thinking? Prying them off is impossible without breaking them and stabbing the seals through the holes in the lid to open them is ridiculous.

We have 7 new spices and the lids won’t come off. They suck. We Broke 2 bottles trying to get lids off and just stabbed the seal through the little holes to get at spices for dinner. Never again buying new products. My rule usually is wait 1 year to buy new so company can get kinks out. Now I’ll have to buy glass bottles, break the remaining spices and fill the new ones. In one word DISAPPOINTED !!

The lid issue (the lid getting glued to the bottle) is apparently a widespread problem. I had to go online to figure out a way to open my little jar of smoked paprika (I had just poked holes in the seal in the interim). There's a whole thread of angry comments from consumers on McCormick's FB page, and there's even an FAQ about this on the McCormick website. Their official suggestion is to wrap a hot, wet paper towel around the lid for a few minutes before attempting to open. This didn't work for me (and my channel lock pliers weren't big enough to use on the lid); I was afraid to try a sharp tool. I took the suggestion I saw in another video--heating the lid for 20 seconds with a hair dryer--and this finally loosened the lid. In my opinion this major fail overshadows any possible gain they were hoping for with the new packaging. They're driving consumers to other brands.

I always learn something worthy of retaining in my packaging knowledge base by listening to Brent -- he's a 'wrap" star!

I am an engineer but I cannot figure out to open the jar.

Crazy, I started that redesign about 5 years ago interesting to see where it ended up. Definitely too much space, materials don't make sense today, and where's the wow factor for a tech product? I agree it felt like a refurb.

Thank you for the amazing video and taking the time to review the Figmint Packaging. Very good question In regards to the use of string. After meeting with the Occupational Therapist, it was determined that string is the easiest to open for guests with dexterity issues. This is due to the common use of a simple scissors or other tool to cut through string vs a twist tie or zip tie (which is widely used in the market). Twist ties are easy for most people but not if you can’t grip them or they are too tight. Also, because they have a wire, they are difficult to cut through, and zip ties….well they are just awful. 😊 Anyway- thanks again for the great work. Just wanted to give reasoning for the string. Plus- it’s a sustainable solution too.

It looks like they have lost a lot of brand equity regarding the cap design and asymmetric neck finish.

Wait, no nutrition facts? That’s a good thing? Is it possible to know what’s in the mochi? This product looks fabulous. Just would like to know more about the actual ingredients.

Plain stupid. The paper pulp container could have had a paper leaflet inside, which would at least eliminate the film coated wraps. The hand cream could have been in a recyclable toothpaste style tube.

Some laugh all the time while driving, some complaint about the weight,consumption, insurance cost,old smell old car same value complaint...what if the vehicle is the only one because of the speed and collisions risks,the only vehicle accepted to be drunk or stoned while driving?

Could you add sustainability comments in the future? Maybe a quick design crit on what they could do to improve the design in terms of materials and construction? For this one the box seems oversized for what it is carrying- though I suppose it creates a safety buffer for the coffee mug.
