The Chieftains, The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem, and the Dubliners - the kings of bringing traditional Irish music to the world
Just Wonderful..
Thanks so much for posting Some serious shade thrown towards The Barleycorn and Wolfe Tones at about 27 minute mark
Love this and Mary!!!! 🎼❤️🎼❤️🎼
Mary Black: A legend.
What is the name of the first tune thats playing (the instrumental)
...RIP Paddy: Keep on with the music on the other side!
The group's only current members are Kevin Conneff and Matt Molloy, who first joined in 1976 and 1979 respectively. Sean Keane, who played fiddle alongside Martin Fay from 1968 to 2002, died in 2023.
Paddy Moloney also appeared on ex-Eagle Don Henley's 1982 debut solo release, I Can't Stand Still; he played the tin whistle on "La Eile" (Irish for "another day") and Uilleann pipes on "Lilah."
I saw the Chieftains perform on the back of a lorry in Bantry, Co Cork (in the '90's)....... I had no idea they were going to be there and loved them already...... jaw dropping stuff.
Fantastic.
Very nice documentary ❤
Oh Jesus what a moving video, I can’t keep from shed tears. 😢 I’m from Italy and I love Chieftains since the first time I listened them in a live concert in 1992 in Italy… however I think their music goes beyond their lives as it’s kept in the hearts of those who loves them like me. Thank you Chieftains.
Wow great names, great voices: The Chieftains! I have just watched their New Generation's Show with Paddy (Son) in Lisbon. Fantabulastic!❤Fantabul
Great upload. Thanks 👍
Chet Atkins, Ricky Skaggs, James Galway, Van Morrison, Sting,
I wish someone ( Neil Jordan) would make a movie about the Chieftans, the legends will never die xxxxx
Yes, there should be a documentary on the Chieftains. This band were at their peak ever since they'd added Derek Bell, on harp and keyboards, in 1974 which brought the total number of members of this band to seven. The band didn't miss a beat in 1979 when longtime members Sean Potts and Michael Tubridy left.
Paddy was a bit of a divell but you need a man like him in a band to make it big.. a character or two does the job.
When Sean Keane leaves this world, he will be remembered as the greatest fiddler to ever walk the Earth.
anyone know the name of the tune at atound 57:24?
Makes the hair stand up on the back of my head all the time. A true great.
I don't consider The Chieftans a true Celtic Band untill they play a real Bagpipe? An Authenic Bagpipe is to Celtic music,as a Mandolin is to Italian Music.
I once read where Martin Faye was asked why Paddy was the leader of the group. His response was, "because we want him to."
Had the privilege to have been at their concert in Symphony Hall in Boston in 1976.
I had the extreme pleasure of meeting with and working at a Mary Black concert many years ago at a festival in Donegal. The first thing that struck me was her eyes, just beautiful. Her demeanor and manner was nothing but adorable. She was friendly, polite, appreciative and obliging. The concert was exceptional. I have been a die hard fan ever since. A true Irish legend. Thanks for all the pleasure you brought and continue to bring.
Very proud to have share notes and beautiful evenings with Paddy Moloney. Thanks for this precious legacy . A real giant
I also got to meet paddy and Derrick during intermission
Rest in peace paddy I saw and the band in Cleveland ohio in 1994 wow what a concert
A brilliant band. It's a shame that Paddy is no longer with us. RIP Paddy and god bless.
Mary Black Maura O'Connell and Rita Connelly Put them together and add Christy Moore and you have the best!!!
Somehow and in someway, I am Irish in my soul. That is because of this woman. I fell in love with Mary Black's music from the start, almost 30 years ago when I was a teenager. I am so grateful for all she has done and given me. Thank-you X
At 4:31, is that moss on Keith`s left ear?
so sad watching this documentary on november 2021... Paddy one of the most wonderful and evocative (ry cooder said :O) musician of all times ... love forever for Chieftains and for their music
I just found out that Paddy passed away three weeks ago.... I am so sad now, but happy to have met him once and seen them in concert at least a half dozen times in my life. My wife and I went to a concert in February 2020 in Berkley, CA and I think that was one of the last concerts they gave before they stopped the tour because of COVID. I'm so grateful we were able to see him one last time before his passing. Rest in Peace Paddy, you wonderful ambasssador of Irish music and culture.
Never heard a Chieftans album I didn’t like. All wildly different, from near pop to sparse traditional but smoking good musicianship throughout.
💚💫💛🎶💜
RIP Paddy
Sublime talent and personality of Paddy Moloney. RIP Paddy and thanks for all you gave us.
Rest In Peace, Paddy, and may heaven bring you all the joy you gave us
RIP Paddy Moloney..
When did this Irish legend pass away?
12 October 2021. Aged 83. He had a good run of it.
This music travels deep in my soul and heart. I feel this music. Wow// Excellent.
"Why are they important? Well... Because of the work they've done"
This is priceless, thank you ……..
You're very welcome, glad you enjoyed it
One of the greatest bands in Irish music cheers paddy r i p king
There needs to be a feature film made about Paddy Maloney and the Chieftains! I'm just a housewife but I'll direct it myself! I can already see the scene where Paddy is skulking around the back streets of Dublin with his trad instruments so's not to be bullied and that extremely emotional moment in the Royal Albert. Interspersed with personal moments with wives etc. when they went professional. These are true trailblazers!
I second that! The six-man lineup that existed from 1979 to 2002 which had captured the hearts of millions the world over included Moloney with Martin Fay, Sean Keane, Derek Bell, Kevin Conneff and Matt Molloy.
What I love about Paddy is the fact he was a genius but such a humble and gracious man. Totally non intimidating.
I’m so glad I got to see them live. RIP Paddy. You were a great man and great influence. And a fun person as well.
