Hi there, I’ve just come across this video and wondered if this helps where the back is too tight and the back of the sleeve is pulling and fraying where it is inserted into the top? Many thanks. ( I only seem to have this problem on McCalls patterns).
Where can I purchase the Fashion Design Book?
You can get it here: www.thefashiondesignbook.com/
Good tutorial
Thanks :)
I have your book it’s very informative
I'm so glad you have the book and that you find it informative!
Which cap height is best for a shirt ❤
This varies greatly based on the type of movement you want and every size has different cap heights. There is no set rule to what cap height is best.
It seems like I need your Fashion Design Book too. Love the history part. Thank you!
It seems like you do :) I'm happy you enjoyed the little fashion history part. It really helps see the bigger picture.
What a great Tutorial. I remember, almost Everything. Thank you Gina!

You're welcome! 😊
See, that’s the video I was looking for! I’ve been struggling to understand the difference. This makes perfect sense!! Thank you. :)
I'm so happy the video was helpful! 🎉
Is it the same designs in both books ie the Fashion Design Book and the Curvy Fashion Design Book?
Yes, that's correct!
Check out The Fashion Design Book: www.thefashiondesignbook.com/sketching-sleeve-and-cuff-details/
If you add a diamond gusset to the underarm of a short cap height, would this eliminate the drag lines?
Adding a diamond gusset usually helps for the movement of the arm. It tends to raise the armhole position slightly. The cap height is the most important thing to reduce draglines.
@ Interesting! Thank you for your reply! ❤️
Is this in the book?
Yes, it is!

Do you cover how to transfer the design into a pattern?
Great question! Since this book offers hundreds of designs, each one would require a unique approach to translating it into a pattern. Factors like fabric choice, silhouette, level of ease, and fit preferences all play a role in how a design should be constructed. Including detailed instructions for transferring each design into a pattern would make the book incredibly complex and lengthy. Instead, the book focuses on guiding you through the design process to build a cohesive wardrobe and inspire your creativity. The goal is to provide inspiration and structure for building a wardrobe you love!
Great correction. The best for my large bicep. Thank you Gina. Your "The Fitting Book" is a Pearl in the fitting panorama of resources ❤
Aww, that's so nice of you to say! It's wonderful to hear that The Fitting Book has been so helpful and valuable in your fitting journey. Thank you for being part of the community! 😊
how would you do this if your pattern is for a knit top that doesnt have a dart, but still has armhole gaping that needs to be removed?
This correction is shown on pages 119 & 120 of The Fitting Book. The correction in the book adds a side dart, but you can also forego the side dart and just shorten up the side seam the depth of the side dart.
@ thank you!!
Simple clear instructions. Thankyou so much!
I'm happy it was helpful!
This is really helpful! Thanks!

I agree... Clothes has to be combined to create a style. I can wait to see how many ideas are in The Fashion Design Book and how they appear once matched. Thank you @Gina Renee fot these inspiring video 🤩
Absolutely! Combining different pieces really brings out a unique style. I’m excited for you to dive in and explore how the designs come to life when matched together.
I never designed clothes but this book will be useful for me in drawing dresses for myself to sew up... I always miss ideas and this huge collection of styles is what can speed up my creativity! Thank you @GinaRenee 🥰
That sounds like a perfect use for the book! Having a collection of styles at your fingertips can definitely spark new ideas and bring fresh inspiration to your sewing projects. I’m so glad it’s helping you explore new designs for yourself. 😊

It's only in English :)
Hola estoy alucinando ,maravilloso ,ya le dicho a mi hija q me realice las fotos para poder realizarlo gracias cada día aprendo algo nuevo❤❤❤❤❤
That's fantastic!
Thank you for it, I am currently sewing in some sleeves with a tall cap height and find that after attaching ( ie easing it in with some gathering ), it is gives a tiny puffy sleeve cap which I do not like. How do I get rid of this?😅
I recommend following the pattern correction found on page 154 of The Fitting Book. You can pin the garment the amount you want to reduce at the cap area and slash out just at the cap area :)
@@GinaRenee thanks. I will do.
It's great to know how to customize the croquis, also for who (as me) that can't use Adobe Photoshop. I defenitely convinced myself to buy The Fashion Design Book😃
I'm so glad the tips for customizing croquis without Photoshop were helpful! I hope The Fashion Design Book inspires you even more on your design journey. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm, and happy designing!
Thank you. I see what you mean. My top was made in China, but it seems to me they have have the front and back mix around (the tag is at the back) but the top does not sit right that way around🤷♀️ I've had to unpick it all and fix the shoulders and replace the sleeves to sit right. What a nightmare !!
It can be such a headache when you get a garment that seems to be the wrong way around. I'm glad the video was helpful.

If we are closest to the "midsize croquis", which of your fashion design books should we purchase, Standard or Curvy?
Great question :) I recommend going for the curvy version because the shape is a bit closer to the middle croquis, and it tends to be a little easier to downsize.
That was very interesting. I have been using a traced photo of myself to adapt clothing on my shape to see if the style is flattering on me or not. I've mostly used Adobe Photoshop Elements for it. It works ok, but I can see from your video that making two pictures is actually far more acurate. Mine was done about chest-high. What I don't really understand, is why go through the process of adapting the croquis at all. Why not just draw undergarments on your traced outline? I've seen you have an extensive library of videos. Is there any you could direct me to, that would make me understand better?
I'm glad you found it interesting. There are so many methods and ways of drawing croquis. You definitely can just use the traced outline of your body as an easy and quick method. However, I teach this method because design schools generally teach drawing croquis in terms of "head" lengths. It's a way to start understanding the body's proportions in a more detailed way rather than just tracing the outline of the body. Once you start understanding the body's proportions, it also helps you with designing and sewing in envisioning silhouettes.
@@GinaRenee Ok, that makes sense. Developing the eye seems to be important just about anywhere, isn't it? I'm going to try this...
Thank you for these videos.
You're welcome! I'm happy you liked them.
Very interesting! I would love to try this sometime!
It's great you want to try them! A customized croquis is a game-changer in the design process.
@@GinaRenee I wish you had one for men.
This is fantastic. I was thinking of using fusible fleece to give it some more stability when stuffing it. Where do we get the pattern?

Order The Fashion Design Book here: www.thefashiondesignbook.com
What a Great Idea❤🎉 Thank you
I'm so glad you like it! Happy sewing!
what is the name of the book ?? 10/10
It's the Fitting Book, you can see all the buying options in English and in Spanish here: www.ginareneedesigns.com/the-fitting-book-printed/
Thank you for the clear and concise clarification. What about a cap height in between the two? Would that alleviate the drag lines?
Yes, most garments are in between the two examples. Most garments will still have some draglines but that allows for movement of the arm. It’s a matter of finding balance between the look of draglines and ease of movement.

You're welcome 😊
I am astounded. I had noticed that when I tried to get the shoulder seam correct on muslins, my front shoulder seemed to want a slight curve in the seamline, but because I never see a curve in patterns I always corrected it. This is the first time I've ever seen this and thank you! Just ordered your book.
I'm so glad the video was helpful and resonated with your experience! It's amazing how those small details can make such a difference. It's great you found something that clicked, and it's great you ordered the book! I hope it continues to support you on your sewing journey.
What are the best tablet brands for a fashion designer focused on illustration and design, and which specific models would you recommend?
I use a MacBook Pro and an iPad. But anything will work as long as it can support heavy design programs. The software is either Adobe illustrator or procreate for drawing.
@@GinaRenee Thanks for your response

You can get them through this link www.thefashiondesignbook.com/
How do famous brands sell women's clothing online by identifying body measurements when customers are not physically present, and how do they create measurement charts for all age groups?
There are companies that create data sets of body measurements. Then they categorize the data based on customers' age ranges, demographics, and interests. These companies sell the data to clothing companies and customize it to each brand based on who their target customer is. Then the clothing company finds fit models in their target sample size and do fittings on a live model that represents their target customers.
