Taking it way too seriously with Pokedex entries simply because this theme is the default for like what, 3/5ths of all Pokemon, all the time? Screw mega-evolutions, how are humans still alive in this universe. The only "theory" that holds any weight is the third one. It's obvious the devs just wanted to put dark entries in the Pokedex, it also makes sense since a lot of Pokemon in Sun and Moon were inspired by yokai and other "monster" themes. People are looking into this way too much, thinking Nintendo and Gamefreak are trying to create/change the franchise drastically thinking they actually care about trying to pivot into something beyond printing money.

a possibility could be a difference in culture between places like kalos and hoenn that may look upon mega evolution for favourably and reflect that in their pokedexes, and places like alola that may culturally view mega evolution as more unethical which would also be reflected in their pokedexes

I like the weird ones like glailie and scizor because it shows the bond between the trainer and the pokemon to the point that they're both willing to put themselves in danger because they trust each other and know things will be alright

They are worse in terms of balance for competitive compared to Tera or Dinamax, but they were 100% far cooler, the best thing it did was making pokemon that were previously not viable usable. I'm a bit annoyed about Charizard special treatment tough, I get giving Mewtwo two megas but Charizard didn't need it, a shame since it might have robbed another pokemon from getting a mega to make it viable.

10:20 - This is incorrect. Mega Evolution is also featured in Let's GO Pikachu and Let's GO Eevee which came out in 2018, one year after USUM. Besides this, Mega Evolution is also featured in Pokemon GO and Masters EX (although these two are spin off mobile games). Mega Evolution was also seen in the anime several times since, including during the World Championships where Cynthia mega evolved her Garchomp, and Ash mega evolved his Lucario. All this happened near the end of Ash's final season in the anime. Overall, the point is that Mega Evolution didn't just disappear and has been appearing in Pokemon media multiple times.

I always liked the idea that Pokédex entries are what is believed by the people in the area, common legends, misconceptions, which makes it easier for people when their fav Mon has some messed up unbelievable stuff going on! It can also be used to explain away some of the inconsistencies in games, what with driftloon being around kids so much

The last instance of mega evolution in the games is the let's go games on the switch, where they retconned it back to or simalar to the original friendship based lore.

Maybe they just didn’t want to make more mega evolutions, I mean adding an entire evolution to older an pokemon sounds harder than giving them a funny crystal hat or making them bigger.

I think you could say that the people of Kalos weren't aware that other regions had access to Mega Evolution simply by the fact that they're going off of history, and not actually visiting other regions in the modern era. But tbh I don't consider remakes to be canon anyway so 🤷‍♂️

Mega evos and Gigantamax forms were the best becasue its like your pokemon were going super saiyan to turn the tide of a battle. The stadium music for Sword & Shield made the whole thing seem so dramatic and epic. Ive been a player since blue and red, completed almost every main title game and enjoyed all to some extent but Scarlet and violet just didnt tick the box for me, the ring pop hats were just daft and having the legendary pokemon like a cereal box prize took away any cool factor to catching it after/along the journey. I did really enjoy legends arceus and will keep an open mind for AZ
