Smokey Prospecting
Австралия
Добавлен 15 июн 2019
This Chanel is all about prospecting for gold and other related treasures to search for. We love getting away on prospecting trips to fill our pans with gold and detect for nuggets. We try to review prospecting products from time to time but most of all love to have fun in the great outdoors.
This is a great place to meet up with others in the comment section but please play nice, bullies or bad behaviour won’t be tolerated. 👍👍

Aftermarket coils worth it for GPX6000?
There are many benefits to having the GPX6000 aftermarket coils but they are certainly not a necessity. Smokey has had much experience with the Nugget Finder Xceed and the Coilteck 10x5 and has now reverted back to the standard factory 11 inch coil for various reasons, some of which are mentioned in this video. While the aftermarket coils are great to have in your arsenal they are certainly not required to find gold as shown here.

Gpx 6000 factory 11 inch vs Coilteck10x5 on Tibooburra gold

To say Smokey was surprised was an understatement. The only time you can get such a change of thought is through a larger sample size of digs. Tibooburra is such a good place to run tests as it provides a chance to get into normal ground type along with plenty of gold targets. In this video you will see the moment that Smokey goes full circle from the aftermarket coils back to the factory 11 in...
Tibooburra Common Ground gold

While Smokey and Jo have been going all over the place to the far flung stations out of Tibooburra, the gold has been in town all along in the common ground. Finding gold in sand is not something Smokey is accustomed to so when the sands in the common ground produce gold he is a little perplexed.

With each day Smokey and Jo spend in Tibooburra searching for gold the more of a data base of experience they begin to collect. While following old timer workings is the go to method, Smokey chooses to risk getting nothing to find other methods. One of the methods that can help is paying attention to where gold is being found and cross referencing this with geology apps such as Trilobite.
Gold caught up in Tibooburra chocolate

Even though it is just the beginning of the Tibooburra gold prospecting trip, Smokey and Jo begin to consider finding more of the decomposed bedrock containing gold from this spot in Mt Stuart. Is it a sign or just a random spot the gold got caught up in? It's early days, however, building a data base of knowledge such as this may help to find more gold in the future.
Tibooburra gold takes some effort.

It's only day 3 and there has been plenty of highs and lows. While Smokey and Jo hit the ground running on their first day, the realisation that this is a complete new gold field has began to set in as the gold is not coming easy. With two Minelab GPX6000s it's only a matter of when, not if, they will get on it. Will it be today or will they be made to earn their stripes once again as they did ...
1st of 7 nuggets in 1 hole
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Год назад
It's a rare sound to hear a low-high target that turns out to be gold, especially in Warwick. Smokey, Richard & his daughter had done their fair share of work for nothing all day. Suddenly, practically on the last swing of the day under a tree that the boys had been looking at all day this spacial sound appeared. This hole turned into a 7 nugget haul but this is the first and most exciting of a...

Gold is hard to find in ground that is heavily worked areas of the Warwick GPAs, even with the GPX6000. Given this, the boundaries are constantly being pushed with aftermarket coils in a bid to get any advantage possible. In this episode of In the Field Smokey gets his hands on the second aftermarket coil in as many months to put it through it's paces. How will the Coiltek coil stack up against...
Clermont gold 2 week total in pictures
Просмотров 601Год назад
The hunt for Clermont gold was a tough one with wet ground and long grass to contend with but Smokey was confident he could exceed last years inaugural total and get the 1 gram of gold per day for the 14 day trip. Unfortunately the video series could not be completed due to a corrupted external hard drive that contained the remaining video files. Therefore, a video collage of totals is revealed...

I learned the gritty Sandy clay layer was paying me best 👌 nice video
Hard to believe the 11" is out doing the 9x14 or 5x10 coiltec. It is very true that having too much sensitivity or gain can have a backfeed effect and diminish performance so it is logical to assume a less sensitive coil could be a benefit in some conditions. Always good to have a reality check in the field. Thanks for taking us along.
Ya get that.
The 7000( Shwarznagger detector ) will beat the 6000 ( dumb mans detector ) of course but I'm not carrying a 7000 around.
Bout time you are back on
6k..❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Smokie ya mist a heap hear in kenil worth your video has kept a heap of people away n for that im gratefull...😅
I just went to a very popular area near Durikai with dig holes like craters on the moon, I got not one piece of gold but 2 small pieces of wire with the stock 11” then after morning tea I put the 9” on and all that afternoon I was busy and the next day until after lunch when it rained I got 36 bits for 1.78g, tiny tiny poop that everything missed, it’s not worth writing home about but in desperate ti es it’s $200 petrol or food money, love your videos Smokey you legend.
Thank you for showing the innards of your device.
I'm very familiar with that area we used to spend our whole school holidays out there for the 6 weeks back through the 80s
Hey hey hey Smokey mate, I don’t know how I missed this one but wrapped I came across it. Absolutely delighted 4 u well done and well deserved and a belated congratulations mate
Size doesn't matter joe
Thanks Smokey, may I ask if you had a GPZ7000, lived in Brisbane, and had no 4WD where would you go that would give you the best chance of finding nuggets, based on your experience? I don't mind hiking a fair way, I need to get some funds in before I go far north.
Thanks Smoky, I was thinking about visiting this site and I was not sure if it was a worthwhile prospect or not, so it is great to get a visual on the area. If someone was just going to use a gold detector and they did not have a 4WD but were willing to hike what area would you recommend in Gympie if you don't mind me asking?
Nugget is stuck in old mates pick 😂
flour gold there so worth a tiny sluice with a mat to catch it
G'day Smokey & Joe only recently found your channel and love the content, recently done a couple of trips to Clermont and had a ball. Only new to detecting and have a GPX6000, both trips I have managed to find a total of just over 5 grams and can't wait to head back there. Keep up the great work.
How awesome is Clermont
The best tweezers for this is the stainless steel long ones that you feed reptiles with , you normally get them from a pet shop. No worry’s don’t,t have to thank me 🤣
Thanks for the info mate, definitely going to do a trip
Nice work SMOKEY
Nothing wrong with Richard’s diggin ability 😊
If you ask a question on the title, some people might like your opinion on the matter, just saying.
How many "P"s in Tibooburra?
Nice work thanks for sharing the tips 👌
Great video. Is this on the town common?
Yes mate
Great ears Smokey. It's unreal how small the targets can be and at depth. I'm convinced the technology is at its peak. Like, how much deeper do you want to be picking up those size targets. Or 1 gram at a metre. Great to see you out on another adventure. Cheers 🍻
G'day mate in Tibooburra at the moment ,any chance you could suggest a place to detect on the common ?i have never been on their ,been out on Gumvail and struggling this trip . Cheers paul
Yeah we found it quiet this year too. There was. Spot I found a few in and never went back. The first right after you leave town from the family hotel side. This takes you down a track with the town on the right. There is a gully along that with heaps of mullock heaps. We found a few up out of the gully below the rocks.
gold digger no longer exists sir!
Yes it is now Gold Rat and we are still affiliated with them so Dusty will help you out with all your needs.
@SmokeyProspecting do you have any equipment sales sites? in France it's really not great
Pretty sure you can purchase from Gold Rat Metal Detectors online not sure if they deliver to France though mate but you could try ordering and see if they can.
@eisr9320 no we don’t sorry
Hey mate, great video but you could really do with uploading at a higher quality/frame rate. 480p is terrible to watch.🤷♂️👍
Hi Novo, yes data was and is expensive to use for upload on the go using our phones and we don’t get much from YT to cover costs, hence the lower quality. I’m pretty sure our latest are 720 which will be better.
@@SmokeyProspecting yeah, sorry mate, I noticed afterwards the date of said video, and more recent are much better. Cheers, stay on the yellow
And that was LES the emu..
Nice to see you guys are still plugging away finding gold, met you both about 3 years ago when we went down to Karara and stayed there a couple of nights. I was sat with my mate and I heard your unmistakable voice across the site lol It was like meeting a movie star lol I spent a a few months looking for gold but never found any, I then gave up but still kept detecting. But recently I decided to try again but not go all in and get a GPX5000 again. Decided on the new Algoforce E1500 with a Coiltek 9" mono to get me started without breaking the bank lol Keep the videos coming as your efforts are not at all in vain, you have taught so many so much of the years and had fun at the same time. If you take gold hunting too seriously it will the better of you. Keep having fun and making more views for us all to watch we do appreciate you both and your efforts :)
Thanks heaps for them super kind words. It’s good to hear people like yourself get positive things out of our clips. Would love to catch up if you are ever back out Warwick with the Algo, would love to see how it goes. 👍👍
I am a local. Thankyou for not showing them the "non-tourist" spot.
Im at a site where the 7000 is no better than the 2300 ..... but where the 6000 is king. After 2wks at same sight, running same dirt: 1st run 7000=12 nuggets, 2nd run 2300=9 nuggets, 3rd run 6000=180 nuggets and still climbing. You do the math
Note: 5000 found 3x sun bakers before ribbon in box detatched.... doesn't count though ;)
Great test, but a second round with the same size nugs would have told the whole story.
I hate to put this out there, but you can CLEARLY see you drop the nugget in place at 11:33 in the video. For not being “affiliated” with a brand, that’s pretty sketchy, man. Sorry.
If we were going to do that mate we would have found a heap more gold. I clearly just went to pick it up. To even think during editing I wouldn’t edit that out if that’s what we’d done.
Auto2 then hold down ground type button till she starts singing, 0.01 gm at 3-4inch
Sorry if it is a silly question but are you in Warwick Qld?
nice well done i am looking at going up there very soon and can i ask if you are camping out there where can you camp. cheers
The caravan park in town is a good spot.
Are you able to do a comparison between the xceed and the Goldhawk 14x9 mate?
Hi mate, I have moved on the NF coil now although I think that is the better of the two in my opinion. I stick mostly to the 11 now to greater depth and ease of use. The NF is slightly less sensitive on the small shallow ones than the coiltek 10x5 but runs a bitter quieter on the chatter from my experience. Both great coils though. 👍
Wow. I was just out at Tibooburra a couple weeks ago from Brisbane.
That’s right that’s gold love your videos mate always have 👍💪👍
I was hoping your were going to check each target found with the 11" coil, with the 10X5, to see if the smaller coil also picked up the target. I'm mainly using the smaller coil over shallow ground but would hate to miss something the 11" might pickup at depth!
Hi Ken, yeah my take away from picking up over 400 nuggets that trip that it was always the 11 that was searching g out the deeper ones and didn’t miss out on much of the smaller shallower ones as well. The smaller ones didn’t blast you but was still obvious in the normal ground type. Still a matter of what each person feels comfortable with using in each situation but for me I trust the 11 now more that both coiltek 10x5 and NF 12x7. Not to say that my mind can’t be changed again in another situation but for now I’m confident in the factory 11 in most situations. 👍👍
@@SmokeyProspecting Thank you for the detailed reply. I like the 10x5 for working tight and shallow areas but in areas where the 11" is easy to use I should change over. I can rarely use normal ground setting so I may have to do some experimenting. Most of the gold I find is over .1g so I may not miss too much with the 11.
Finally your back!! Thanks
Fantastic hunt and comparison! Were you able to run with a stable threshold sound and what sensitivity? Watching Digger Dan, he is running all the way down on 1 sensitivity and I am starting to experiment with one or two sensitivity since the machine is so hot and they are saying it is back feeding or interfearing with itself on higher settings. Also have the 14x9 coiltec and use it in lieu of the 11. Only put the 10x5 on to do clean up. I run in normal ground even in hot soil. Always lots to learn! Thanks for taking us along.
Interesting you run in normal in hot ground, we have never been able to get away with it in Queensland even on sens 1. Sens is a touchy subject and there are many ways to skin a cat but we like it high. Tibooburra we were able to run in normal and max in 9 sens and it was super quiet and stable. Thats the reason our average nugget for the trip was .03. Can’t even find one that small up in QLD due to needing to run difficult so it was a dream to detect in TiB.
@@SmokeyProspecting Interesting. Our conditions are likely much less hotness of soil but much greater EMI due to eysight to houses and town. When I went to the Nevada desert it is not hot but heavy ancient lake bed alkali. When afternoon thunder storms hit of course the lightening snaps in the head phones and when the alkali gets wet the 6000 became completely unstable and unusable. Had to get out the 7000 and it could handle. Hi speed dry winds whip up static electricity also so 6000 is pretty unstable in the desert in afternoon. I normally run max manual sensitivity in normal but it is quite noisy. The 10x5 is the least noisy likely due to high EMI. After seeing Digger Dan using sensitivity 1 and trying it was much less taxing on the brain :) Looking forward to experimenting some more.
always fun to watch 😊
Nice work
Nice work Smokey, love your vids, keep them coming, stay safe, cheers 👍👍👍
Was on the fence about getting a 6000, think your vid just confirmed it for me. Thanks!
Do you ever make money with it, after the expenses?
Hi mate, for us it’s a hobby only not a money making excercise. While we would love to make a career out of it, we just don’t have access to land that would allow us to consider doing it full time. Maybe one day it may happen but until then we will continue to work hard at our day jobs. 👍
@@SmokeyProspecting Thanks.
