I appreciate the music on your channel. I am especially interested in the 5 Jones Boys. My grandfather was William Bartley (on guitar in the Gene Autry movies). I noticed you credited him as William Hartley, but it is William Bartley. Thank you ❤

"You're So Fine," by the Falcons, had the misfortune of hitting the charts at about the same time as "So Fine," by the Fiestas, which was the more popular of the two songs. The Falcons were over-shadowed and this song is now almost forgotten. Both groups were part of the wave of black performers that introduced the urban sound to suburban white audiences and made black artists socially more acceptable to parents. This was the raw beginnings of rock -- long before fuzz boxes, synthesizers, and the electronic studio modification of sound that was to come.

Sir, this is interesting. In 1964 and 1965, Lana Records had some of these original artists record new versions of their original hits for release on Lana -- but some Lana pressings had the original versions. I had a copy of "Valarie" on the yellow Lana label which played the original (Fury Records) version. The label only displayed the title "Valarie" -- no artist was credited; the B side, "Lonesome Boy", credited Jackie and The Starlites. This (video) is the first time I've heard this 1964 version of "Valarie". I also had a yellow Lana label copy of Johnnie and Joe's "Over The Mountain; Across The Sea" which played the original version (backed with "Shortenin' Bread"); but I've seen listings for a 1964 version of the song on Lana Records. I've also had later versions of hits by artists like The Nutmegs, The Mello Kings, The Cadillacs and The Moonglows on Lana Records.
