Miss Jenny, Today I won’t mix any Korean with this message, I want to express my thoughts and intentions as clearly as I’m able in my native language. Understandably, Korea is mourning the loss of her dear souls; being made to know such sorrow in a season of joy only enhances that sorrow, and will over shadow many Chrostmases in the future. Certainly, no one is promised tomorrow; we can’t even hold onto today. If nothing else, this tragedy shows the fragility of life, as well as its dear and passing nature. In James chapter 4, verse 14 ( James 4:14), the Bible reads, “whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” ‭ My heart breaks for the people of South Korea; my heart breaks especially for Jenny Ahn, since we have some slight connection through your teaching videos - which connection, however tenuous, has made you dear to me. If life indeed is a vapour appearing for a little time then passing away, life is no less precious for its brevity. We are each of us here for a purpose. (It is a lie to believe we are mere happenstance, the chance result of countless other chance moments preceeding our birth.) Christian theology teaches that for eternity past, before creation, God knew you specifically, Miss Jenny Ahn, God knew your life-intended you to have that life, he knew your life’s precise begining, purpose, location, knew your first breath, your first step, and your life’s conclusion. Precisely because no one is promised tomorrow, we must settle our eternity this day-this moment, even! I wrote above your life was no mere chance but purposeful. That purpose was to be loved by and known of God, and more importantly, to live your life in relationship with him. You were created purposefully to love God and maintain a daily relationship with Him. God made you with the intention of having a relationship with Him; God is not some distant and disinterested creator, but a creator commited to being known by His creation and being intimately involved in the lives of his creation. Christian doctrine teaches that sin separated us from that relationship, but Christian doctrine further teaches that before there was mankind and a sin problem, God had already provided a solution: having just passed through Chridtmas we know that his solution was the gift of his only son, Jesus Christ, who was given to all men, of every race, creed, and social status to be the sacrifice restoring our relationship to God. I don’t know what your religious beliefs are, Miss Jenny, but I know the truth and power of my Christian faith. My faith gives me a hope of eternal life beyond the mortal bounds of my flesh, which surely will reach its end one day. Then, on my final earthly breath, my eyes will close to open upon a new world and I will take my first breath of wternal life in Heaven. Please think on these things, Miss Jenny. I love you amd I love your soul. I know what I was and what I lacked, and I know what I’ve found by my personal faith in Jesus Christ as my savior and I know what what precious life I have now. How wonderful if you had this same life, too. Tony Walters

Currently, Korea is in a national mourning period until January 4th due to the recent plane crash that claimed 179 lives. While I don’t personally know any of the victims, watching interviews with the bereaved families on the news makes me cry. I originally planned to teach New Year’s greetings in Korean this week, but I’ve decided to postpone the upload until next week. Thank you for your concern, Tony.
