An Introduction to the Border Collie
Просмотров 2132 года назад
The world's smartest dog breed according to a study goes to the Border Collie. Border Collies are popular with dog trainers such as, Zak George, Susan Garrett and Emily Larlham from Kikopup. I recommend checking out any of their channels if you're interested in training. But, just because this breed is right for those big name dog trainers, doesn't mean this is a dog breed for everyone. Dog Ear Cropping and Tail Docking - Is It Necessary?
Просмотров 6513 года назад
Should you get your dogs ears cropped and tail docked? This is a very opinionated subject and I would love to know your personal thoughts and opinions in the comments. Breeds such as the Doberman Pinscher are born with natural floppy ears and long, thin tails. If the breeder prefers the look, they will have the tails docked at 2 to 5 days old and ears cropped at 7 to 9 weeks of age. Some people...

As a child I had a pet border collie/whippet cross named Mick. I also had a pet rabbit and quite a large garden. Even as an 8 year old I found it very difficult to catch the rabbit and put him back in his hutch at night, but Mick had no such problems and expertly herded Snowy the rabbit into the hutch, every time. I am now 65 years old and I still miss that dog!.

My BMC is my miracle dog. I rescued her as a puppy and had no idea what she was until I took her to the vet and they told me. I googled it and was like...wow..sounds about right. 4 years later...she is my miracle. I have yet to meet a person who has not fallen in love with her. She is my best friend, great frisbee dog and the most amazing animal on the planet. 3 of my friends have adopted rescue BMC's because of my Zoey. She is an ambassador of the breed and I wish everyone could meet her to know what an amazing dog she is. She is my ol yeller!

I was in the military and have PTSD. People laugh that I have a small cockapoo as a watch / alert dog instead of a big intimidating Doberman or pitbull. This small intelligent dog barks if she hears a pin drop and can hear cars approaching from a mile away, she gives me immense joy & is a big reliever / peace of my mind to all my stress & worries . God bless dogs, we truly don’t deserve these amazing & pure animals ❤

I have 6 Australian shepards and one border collie. I raised them from pups. They all are extremely protective dogs that don't accept strangers, mostly because there are so many they formed a pack mentality. The difference between the bc and the shepherd's are quite noticeable in some aspects. The collie has a more nervous anxiety personality when introduced to new situations or ppl. The collie is always looking for commands and is always right by my side, ready to attack at the first sign of danger. She does a crouching position like a herding dog. She listens better than the shepherds and picks up on tricks fast. My shepherd's are more stubborn, but they tend to understand human emotions more and are almost human like when displaying emotions and affection. The merle shepherds tend to have more personality than the non spotted ones. Overall, they are great dogs for protection, but the collie doesn't do well with small children like the shepherd's do mostly because they are less emotionally driven and more work and command.

Booker is our first BMC. I take him to the dog park and long walks he is smart, obedient, and easy to train. We're retired, so we're home all the time. I take Booker to the supermarket or just ride around with him. He follows us throughout the house. I feel safe walking him alone. I've taken him on hikes only a couple of times, then our weather, we're in Arizona, was getting warmer, so now I get up at 5 a.m., and we hit the park ❤

I had a black mouth cur, she made it to 4 months shy of her 13th birthday. When she was older I got a Belgian malinois and man, she made him look dumber than a box of rocks. Smartest dog ever! She did have allergies and we never figured out what it was. I do live in an apartment but we went on walks every day, in the summer we went home to south texas so she could run around at the homestead. Her nose was absolutely amazing. Anyone who does a DNA test and claims it tests for black mouth cur is a liar! When she got older, out of curiosity I did one to see what breeds they called her. 20 breeds of every kind of coonhound, some Italian hound, 6 different herding breeds including Chesapeake bay retriever and Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever, then randomly 3% Fijian street dog 😂 I got her from there shelter in Houston and now it seems like shelters call everything a black mouth cur. She looks just like the black mouth curs in the viral video of the cattle drive going though some town during hurricane Harvey. She was the best dog I ever had and if you can keep them entertained and satisfied mentally, you can handle them being in an apartment but we were really active!

I should say what I mean is because of the different groups of black mouth curs, no DNA test actually has black mouth cur listed as a breed

Chuck Connors came to my home in Long Island NY when I was 5, in the early Spring 1971, and bought our Yellow Lab pup. My parents told me he was going to be in a movie that we'd go see in the summer. Connors traded me a banana seat bike for my dog named Pancho even though I refused the offer. Well, soon the Disney Old Yeller movie was rereleased and my mom told me we were going to see Pancho in the movie. I was so happy believing it was him the whole time but if you know Old Yeller's final moments you can imagine what a 5 year ould sounds like sobbing hysterically in a quiet movie theater. My tale is on a video on my channel if you want to hear the detailed story of Chuck Connors visit and what became of Pancho. Every time I come across a video that mentions Old Yeller, especially the sad part, I'm reminded of him. Thank you for your informative video on Blackfaced Cur. I was searching Curs because the dog I have now is a mix of hunting dog and wild dog. Her nose shape isn't typical. For sure she's part Lunde Hund can put her head backwards on her back and close her ears, sings like a New Guinea Singing Dog button ears like Curs and Whippets/Grey Hounds, an under bite, looked like a pitbull puppy when I got her.. I used to tell people she was a mini pit jokingly, climbed trees until I trained her not to not knowing aboutTree Feists. She's also black inside her mouth and throat except part of her tongue and gums and very black rimmed eyes and foot pads despite her white fur. She gets tri-colored spots on her half hairless body in the summer only. I learned that a guy in the neighborhood bred hunting dogs but could never locate him. She's the smartest dog I've had in my 5+ decade lifetime with experience ofowning/breeding and rescuing many breeds. None have even come close to her. She learned custom signs to say I love you, I want ... and I choose. She'll also choose a hand to indicate yes or no or choose what word I assign to each hand like Do you want... hotdog or chicken, making her choice her answer. She alerts me when something's amiss and picks things up for me, the list goes on. Super smart, super eager to work but that wild in her is so different from domestic dogs. Her mouth can open really wide and she has those carnivore molars that wolves and coyotes have. She's so aware, can smell things always knowing and highly alarmed when visitors come, and pants in anxiety, stresses like a wild animal in a cage if she finds out someone is coming to visit or hears something but can't see it. She lowers her head to the floor while standing and arches her back just like a fox or coyote when threatened. Reminds me of those black cat images. On walks she's fine but totally nose driven the whole time, loves kids. Only 12 lbs but has a bark like a Rottweiler my son's dog is 1/8 shy of pure German Rottie. Never ever tried or bitten any person or animal in her life. She charged up to a wild Wolf-dog that was shopping the neighborhood for strays to eat early one morning and faced off with him. I was so afraid he'd grab her because she wouldn't come back when I called her to, her fur on her back sticking straight up, but she so confidently and adimately stood her ground and he read her, then backed up slowly and left. There's so much more I could tell about her. She's 10 years old now, her sight is declining, getting episodes of dementia more often and I think her eventual passing will just devistate me. I want to get her DNA tested before she passes. She's the best companion I've ever loved on earth but the hardest too, she makes me work for it. Every week I find myself browsing breeds of domestic and wild dogs, just so curious to know what exactly she could be. She will take her secret with her. At best I can only know partially. Her nose, has a Cur shape so here I am looking up Curs in my never ending intrigue. Again, thank you for your video.

7 weeks ago a dog was roaming the neighborhood and I was told that dog has been around for 4 days almost getting hit multi times were drivers on our busy streets started stopping and throwing food on side of road to keep him away from traffic, me being the animal lover I am and doing rescues for the past 15 years went to try and catch him. Needless to say after an hour or so of sitting and talking to him he gets up and walks to me. We are inseparable....BOSCO is a 3year old Red Black Mouth Curr..... He is awesome, very smart and very protective. Thank you whoever put him in my life........I really needed him in my life with the things I'm going thru. Love you Bosc.

I adopted a baby border collie at 9 weeks old last year and she now going to be 11 months old soon, she has amazing levels of energy and the smartest dog I ever met, she can be super naughty when she wants to and loves to try to dig into the garbage can for some reason. She is a overall very sweet and loving little dog who loves hugs and kisses and likes to stand up and wrap her paws around my neck and she stand there and gaze into my eyes 👀 she is really great on walks and always stops to check on me every few feet it actually very cute when she does this, the biggest challenge I have with her so far compared with all other dogs I have had in my life is she seems to not like other people much at all, or is super defensive of me if stangers get too close to me out on walks . Getting her to be social and friendly to other people a challenge we are working on

I just rescued a 6.5 year old dog from a awesome no kill shelter. The Yellowknife NWTSPCA in the Northwest Territories in Canada. Was told he was a Black mouth cur with the size and colouring of a southern black mouth cur . He is an amazing dog for being in the shelter just over 600 days . Sadly to say it appears that he was abused in his younger years. He is in a loving and caring home and we do our best to support him with his many fears. I am unsure if he really is a southern black mouth cur . But his size , colour, markings , his hair length and his tail match photos I have seen of the breed. He looks exactly like the one in your video and the same size . His name is Warren ( kept his shelter name , he was there so long ) and he has more black on his mask and it includes around his eyes. Has the floppy black ears and a little black mixed in running down his back. You can notice the black on his back unless you are very close, very suttle . Enjoyed your video very much. I don’t normally write comments.

1 curs were bred to withstand triple digit heat so is your dog always cold? 2 when they are at rest, do the ears face forward? 3 when they play with other dogs like tackling fake battle style, do they go for the neck? These are some of the telltale signs of a cur. I’ve also seen that while they have webbed feet, if hunting w other dogs, they will let another dog swim after the object then steal their prey/toy once they arrive close enough to where you can stand in the water, which mine did the same thing.

I’ve owed two.. You don’t train them. You negotiate. Land Manatee comes to mind.. My dog is the most gentle easy going dog I’ve ever had. Not sure about the guard thing.. I catch my mastiff watching possums eat his food all the time. He knows he’s a rock star.. I’ve taken him to local outdoor events.. He gets swarmed by people… Except from India… I think they think he’s a lion? 33 inches at the shoulder. 227 pounds.. I did not spade him. I think it’s unnecessary for most Massifs.. I don’t think he would wake up for anything except food and pooping if he had been cut. Plus they tend to get fat when cut.. you can’t bully a Mastiff into a walk.. if they lay down midway through? You are in BIG trouble.

My black mouth cur, Jimmy, is the smartest dog we ever had, he is easy to train and obeys commands except when he sees a squirrel, a he's off to tree it, he understands 40 different words, clocked him at 35 mph chasing a squirrel, and run 5 miles a day, which he loves to do, and will let you know when wants to run, watching him run is poetry in motion, he has the softest mouth and eats very slowly and deliberately as opposed to our two labs, he has about 30 different facial expressions to tell you his wants and needs, every day he does something fun or something that makes you think how did he do that? Just the best country dog. We live in NE TX, perfect county for him. Dr Joe
