Journey Church in Brentwood, TN is a place where questions are welcome and doubts are explored. We are an inter-denominational church that seeks to love well as a community and welcomes people from all walks of life - encouraging them to embark on an adventurous search for the honest, real, and eternal.
Leading Voices
It's an all-female NOW roundtable this week with Journey elders Summer Friesen and Krista Barre and staff member Betsy Raney joining host Suzie Lind. Together, they discuss their individual experiences and journeys as women in church leadership.
TIMESTAMPS
Just listen, people. It's all great.*
* With no men at this week's table, the need to guide our listeners through the banter and foolery has been eliminated. Go figure: Female perspective leads to thoughtfulness and maturity.

Suzie Lind - Spiritual formation is commonly limited to the practices that grow our individual relationships with God. Today we consider the end of formation is to actually cultivate a more faithful community.

The Real Hour of Power (In 48 Minutes)
Cool!!
Well done Suzie for STOPPING and creating a safe place for anyone in the audience who might have written all 3 of you off before you started talking about the D (discipleship) word! I don't go to journey but I can tell that sensitivity for the people you serve was there when you interjected!
This was so, so uplifting. Thank you.
Everyone needs to hear this. Thank you so much for this lesson. I've been told throughout my life that I'm too softhearted. This lesson has taught me that there's no such thing as being too softhearted. It does feel like it leaves me open to getting hurt in many different ways. Some people I know, see this as a weakness, but now I know this is what God wants from all of us and this is the way forward to a better world. I'm going to work on softening my heart even more. Because my heart has hardened these past four years and I need to undo that so that I may move forward in a progressive way. If I've misunderstood this lesson please let me know. ❤️
Such a timely word. I have so many friends who are hurting and in a rough season. How they need to know that they are not alone and He is near to them.
I need this kind of church in my life. Our family has been watching this Church’s live streams over quarantine. I, as a teenager, am for the fist time in my life, feeling like I really connect with a church. I have never specifically sought out sermons or anything from previous churches that we have been a part of. The live-streams and podcast versions of the sermons make this really easy. Thank you so much for having these online resources for those of us who do not live in Tennessee.
Thanks Julia! We're so glad you're joining us online! We'll keep livestreams happening!
Good Sunday morning
Another way to view our history, and I've forgotten where I read/heard this, is, America was born with the birth defect of slavery. Excellent convo Journey!
it took me going to Georgia to see how racist California is to all races its just hidden under new names and phrases . thank you for the talk it has helped me . to understand my own denial i will be posting this on my pages
Excellent!
That's not what Jesus meant when he said "hate your mother or father".. It's a Jewish idiomatic figure of speech it means love me more than them. He even says that - "if you don't love me MORE than them.. You can't love anyone unless you love theme through him. He has to be first to effectively love anyone which includes judging rightly. You are judging right now sir. Paul said we will judge angels.. Paul judged ppl, Jesus Judged, the prophets judged, the disciples judged.. Paul rebuked believers for not judging.. There is no teaching in scripture that prohibits judging - only wrong judging is prohibited.
Roman's 14. Paul is not prohibiting judging in general ( Christ said judge with right (eous) judgment not just superficial based on appearances) Paul is saying stop judging one another over a certain practice of Christian Jews who were keeping the law and circumcising and not eating meats sacrificed to idols they were doing that unto God - Paul's converts saved under the gospel of grace were stronger in the faith then those Jewish Christians keeping the law who were called the "weaker"brothers. Paul was telling his converts who were not to keep the law that "hey we know there is only one God and all meats are clean if eaten unto him with thanksgiving but these Jewish Christians keeping the law would be offended if they see you eating that meat sacrificed to idols - so be aware of this and don't overtly offend them over something superficial. Both groups coexisted together under some different rules/dispensations. This is not to be taken in a broad sense that morality in general is in the eye of the beholder and what is good for one, might be bad for others. Murder is always wrong, Rape is always wrong etc. We are talking about symbolic aspects of the law that Christ fulfilled and Paul's gentile converts and new Jewish converts were not to observe - but that the group of Jewish believers was still observing it and Paul was saying God has accepted both groups - the circumcision (Jewish christian believer saved under Christ's ministry to Israel)group and the uncircumcised group. (Those saved under the Gospel of Grace through the gospel Christ gave Paul to "ye gentiles") If right judging in general is wrong - then this pastor would be wrong to judge those who judge.
Thank you I deeply needed this...
Please don't cut the final prayer.
Awesome!
