Harley Benton CLG 70 ASR SBK All solid wood acoustic guitar
This will be my last bit of guitar buying for a while. This would appear to be the Harley Benton equivalent of the Bromo BAR 5CE. All solid wood with a fishman pickup for £308. Seems a bargain really. Plays great out of the box, very resonant. Fit and finish are outstanding, shoulder rest, great machine heads, bone nut and bridge. I will be keeping this and the Bromo.

Bromo BAT2M, a few thoughts on a nice guitar for little money

Just a review to follow up on the all solid wood Bromo from before, this is the BAT2M which has a solid mahogany top but this model has laminated sides and back and no piezo system. With a small discount it was £150. Because it's mahogany the tone is a little darker than the spruce but it's a great guitar, comfortable to play and ideal for doing open mic nights where you might not wish risking ...

Cort Modern Black, a few thoughts
Просмотров 922Месяц назад
Picked up a Cort Modern Black recently, initially because it looked stunning. It took me some time to get used to it, as the neck is quite wide and asymmetrical. Fingerboard is ebony I believe with a flattish profile, frets are beautifully done, appear to be jumbo. Everything on it is top quality and was I believe made in the Dalian plant in China. I love the sound coming out of the two sound h...

It's actually lovely to play now but took some effort to get there, apologies for this being longer than the other reviews, got confused at 15.39 I meant to say I always set the neck pickup a little louder than the bridge. It is a great guitar but definitely check you can get a good action if the bridge is very high, cheers

Bought one last week based on reviews - I absolutely love it! A joy to play, and beautiful to look at! Amazing for the money!
Faith guitars are made out in Indonesia, so the craftsmanship is there. I do have a faith but for £350 it looks and sounds really nice.
@@russellnewton6660 cheers thanks for watching
It does sound nice. Indonesia has a culture of detail orientation, and artisanship. It's like it's genetic. I spent time there on a number of occasions. It looks like someone smart, has harnessed this artisan energy :) And we are the winners.
Cheers thanks for watching
I bought a BAT1N for $200 and it’s seriously a great guitar and sounds and plays as good as cheaper Martin but with better specs. No fake woods.
@@LCARSADV thanks for watching, cheers
I bought one after seeing Justin Johnson's review and this review. It was the only Bromo BAR5CE in stock I could find anywhere in the USA online (Rondo Music). I was expecting to return it but I was blown away with the quality, the all solid wood construction, Amara ebony back/sides and fretboard, mahogany neck with 2 ebony strips, ornate abalone fret markers/sound hole and entire top edge and mother of pearl headstock logo. It has flame maple binding on the entire body. It also included a nice quality padded gig bag! After a week of playing it opened up and now sounds incredible and too good to be true for only $499.00 !!! 👍
@@mikemcg7724 thanks for watching, it's a guitar I find myself picking up a lot, glad you're enjoying it, cheers
Its only sold for 250 pounds here in India. Ive got one of these
@@PassengerMike-z7r a good deal 👍
I played one of these today. An exceptionally good guitar for the price, I thought. It is beautifully presented, with a powerful, yet delicate (and very responsive) projection. I wasn’t just as keen on: the controls being inside the sound hole, the sharp corner on the cutaway and the rather heavy strings it was fitted with, but overall, a very impressive instrument. Comparable with any Taylor or Gibson I’ve tried.
@@MrMjp58 cheers, thanks for watching, I think they've gone for a very nice neck profile and was impressed by the quality of the fretwork too, will be reviewing a cheaper model soon
I have just bought one it’s a solid piece of craftsmanship, plays and sounds amazing. I love it. Very exquisitely ornate. Imho. Justin Johnson the blues guitarist on here did a review also..

Hello sir what is the size?
@@sanirulhaque1370 hi thanks for watching, I guess you'd call it grand auditorium size, it is actually smaller on the rear, bridge to the back of the guitar is 16mm compared to the sire A3 I have knocking around (grand auditorium size) which is 20mm to the back of the guitar. Body on the bromo is 11 mm deep. For comparisons sake I did pick up a bromo with a solid top and laminated back and sides which I will post a review of when it turns up, cheers
@jeannedark8075 is it sounding like other all solid guitars? Since it's cheaper..
@@sanirulhaque1370 it's a very decent sounding guitar which is great to play, in fact it will probably be the one that gets taken out to do open mic nights etc. they do an almost identical model with a little less abalone, a more basic piezo and laminated back and sides for £200 I probably would have tried one if I could have found one for sale. The bracing is interesting on these as it has holes in it, I've never seen that before and it does seem to make it a very resonant guitar, cheers

Justin Johnson reviewed a Bromo guitar, not sure if its this one but he was impressed too. He is certainly no hacker either lol. He said it was entry level or a step above, so of course a professional could find faults. It's not to be picked apart as a match to an expensive guitar. I have bought most of my guitars used just to get a better guitar. I like the idea of a new one at an affordable price. Thanks for your honest review!

@@keithsnowdon8672 hi I'm just trying to be honest, no one pays me for doing this it's just my opinion. The guitar is solid wood and plays really well, yes I have a cort modern black and that is an incredible instrument beautifully finished in every possible way, this bromo is perhaps not quite as well finished but it plays and sounds equally as good, it is however around a third of the price. Sounds a beaut any feedback issues when you acquired it ive seen other videos claiming unplayability and microphonic pickups, would you say it was a good buy? as looking into taking a chance and getting one

@@westleypollitt8101 I still really like the hb 35, there were some quality issues but nothing that couldn't be overcome, pickups are fine though if it was your main guitar one might splash out on some slightly more upmarket ones. The thing I like most with the hb 35 is the neck profile and playability, it's not far off the real thing at a fraction of the price, cheers
Just ordered a green blast today. I have a TE-52 and a TE-20HH which both play way better than they should at the price.
What about the Split Coils ??
Hi I personally like the split coils, the bridge humbucker is good. Some folk don't like the amount of difference in volume between the coil taps but for me it suits the way I play, the neck humbucker is a bit bass heavy but nothing that can't be eq'd without too much trouble. I've just tried to be honest in the review I do actually love this guitar and it's a keeper. Thanks very much for watching cheers
Can you do a video of how to do the Intonation please ?
Hi I'll try and do next week cheers
Send it back then ..they not all like that
Thanks for the review, enjoyed that! I've had mine for just over a year and used it more than expected! It lends itself to lots of styles and tones Here is a 'playlist' of various licks n riffs on an HB35+ b stock bought in 2022. As b stock I asked hb to ensure it was QA again and set intonation..they did a good job..minor adjustment on bass E saddle is all I have done to it..enjoy! ruclips.net/p/PLMPxgXYprkyZ_ZgWI98sRWoiV_GuGTtJ-
Thanks for watching, despite mine having some quality issues none of those was insurmountable, I think the neck is exceptionally nice to play at any price point and was also pleased the pickups are pretty good , the bridge one is a little bassy but an eq pedal or just some amp tweaking will fix that, in truth a strat, a tele and a 335 are all I really need and with harley benton you can have a good example of each together for under £500 which in itself is pretty impressive, cheers
Thanks for this video. I am keen on getting a budget semi hollow and was looking at the HB35’s or perhaps an epiphone. I recently got my first Harley Benton, the JA60 simplified jazzmaster style guitar. I had to do a bit of truss rod and bridge adjustment to get the action right. As a novice I was a bit afraid of that but it actually went fine and the guitar plays great now. So it has been a good learning experience and has given me the confidence to get another HB. your experience and tips are very welcome when I get my HB35 plus. Thanks!
Thanks very much, the thing that surprised me most was the fretwork seems really good these days on cheaper guitars, I really like the hb 35, I have a much more expensive semi but if I'm honest they're close and due to the nice neck the hb35 is great fun to play, thanks very much for watching, cheers
Hi HVH - I was a bit hesitant, but bought the HB35 plus last week and am thrilled with it. The frets were a bit gritty, so I had to play it a bit. I lowered the action (1/2 turn of a phillips screwdriver on the bridge) and played it for 2 days before the grit was rubbed away (very typical of budget instruments). It is a gorgeous instrument and I am really glad i bought it. I got the lemon drop color.
@@neilkorsgaardIm awaiting my Lemon..Im a total beginner so wont have a clue if it sounds correct or not lol
I had none of the issues you had with my HB-35 Plus. Mine was set up very nice and I could find no complaints. Sometimes a lemon may be sent but I was pleased with my guitar from Harley Benton. I also was pleased with my HB-52 Vintage, HB Tube 15, HB Tube 5 and 2 1x12 celestion equiped speaker cabs. I would have sent a guitar like yours back.
Is it good out of the box with no buzzing strings and proper string action?
Hi, not sure if I was lucky but all frets were good and the nut cut well, just had to lower the action a little with the Allen key and it played great, lovely guitar, cheers
Didn't mean to sound like a jerk. My bad old timer, rock n roll.
Ok ok....all things considered, you paid 250$ for that guitar!!! Soooo let's not expect these to be Gibby quality. I do thank you for doing your review. I'm surprised about the complaints. Everything you've spoke about can be fixed within an hour. And when anyone gets a new guitar, we always tweak them to our liking. In closing, while your review is very good, very well put together, you obviously know your gear. But again old man, $250 frickin bucks!!!!!
Thanks very much for watching, I just made these few videos to be totally honest about the gear, so many reviews don't quite tell you what you need. I really like this Harley Benton it's a lot of fun. With cheap guitars, to me they're either for beginners or for gigging musicians who don't want to take their expensive gear out. One thing that has been a pleasant discovery is that even on a cheap guitar, the fretting is generally very good these days, nothing I've bought recently has required any levelling of the frets which to my mind is the most expensive and skilled problem to fix. I'll probably just do one more video covering everything but a fret job, but it's good to know that you can buy an excellent instrument for well under 200 quid. Cheers
Great tips more more more please more
Cheers hope to add some bits after xmas
I am surprised at this review I have had 5 HB35+ I had to send one back because it had been bashed in delivery The other 4 have been amazing other than a fretboard clean, fret polish and string height setup. Nothing else. So don’t be put off by this review. The damn thing is a shade over £200 for Gods sake And mine are just as good as any other guitar that I won, Gibson included. Seriously. You will not get anything else near for even double the price. Get the cherry or the plumb. Beautiful finishes.
I like the guitar very much, this is not a put you off review, quite the contrary, the one I have had issues which once resolved made it a great guitar, one that I play a lot, cheers
Fret polish? With which product? Thx
I use a foam nail buffer for simple polishing Just the last two grades
Got mine on Tuesday, all I need to do was a truss rod adjustment, lower the strings and level one fret, the intonation was good out of the box apart from 2 strings. Also polished the frets cuz they were a bit grubby. Gave the fretboard a bit of a clean and a dash of boiled linseed oil, the final bit I done was adjust the pole prices to the same radious as the neck.I do guitar setups and repairs and I have done no more on this than I have had to do on an original fender telecaster I set up recently . The quality is amazing and I absolutely love the neck pickup, seen some folk knocking Harley Benton quality out of the box I have worked on a fair few guitars in all price ranges and had some real stinkers to do from your more expensive brands. I'm gonna make a leather pickgaurd for it .
Thanks for watching, it's a genuinely great guitar, didn't have the little issues you did but there is nothing you have to change on it, it could easily last someone their whole playing career imho as well as being a perfect beginners guitar, cheers
@@jeannedark8075 didn't really have any issues with it, it's just what I do with new guitars set them up how I like them. I am obsessed with shiney frets they have to be like mirrors lol. I learned to set up my guitars and do repairs cuz it is substantly more expensive nowadays than it was about 10 years ago plus it saves you money.
I really did your version of a review. There are so many vids out there of just going back and forth through the pickups the whole time which tells me nothing off my cheap phone. The actual hardware breakdown was very thorough. Appreciate you!
Thanks very much, glad it was useful
I can confirm most of your observations, but I had better luck with quality control, even though mine seems to come from China. I was surprised at the sensitivity of the not-so-slender neck to a change in string gauge -- I put on .08-.42, and the guitar became virtually unplayable past the 12th fret. Easily fixable with truss rod and bridge, though. A few more things a prospective buyer should be aware of: 1. The frets are scratchy when bending the strings, so applying 800 grid sandpaper (plus chrome polish afterwards) is recommended. 2. There is a marked volume loss in single coil mode. 3. When both pickups are active, either of the volume pots will silence the guitar. Mixing the pickups at home or in studio thus becomes fiddly, on stage that is a no go. I can live with these shortcomings, but perhaps that's not for everyone.
Those are very fair points though I actually like the single coil drop in volume but yes it is a little fiddly, I do actually love the hb 35 now and find it plays nearly as well as my much more expensive vox virage, thanks very much for your thoughts and for watching, cheers
Thanks for this sir, you covered everything i needed to know but were afraid to ask about guitar set up. I am also rather more confident about getting a HB35 plus but I'll go for the VB or the cherry.
Cheers, once tweaked it is to be fair an excellent guitar
As someone who has been thinking about learning the Guitar for a while now, I have been looking at Harley Benton`s and I am thinking about a Tele style. I have been particularly looking at the TE52 and this TE90. Would you say either one would suit a beginner? That sounds nice by the way.
Hi I still love this guitar , the te 90 flt, there is nothing you really have to upgrade and the setup was minimal, if you are new to playing it only required the action (string height) to be lowered slightly, this is done with the small Allen key, I usually do a quarter turn at a time on each string which means you can easily go back if you make an error. I had a te 52 it was a good guitar but bear in mind it is considerably heavier which can be an issue for some folks. The pickups on the te 90flt are really lovely. The thing that surprised me about the te 90 was it really has character whereas some Harley Bentons can be a bit bland. Best of luck in making your choice!
@@jeannedark8075 Many thanks for the advice. I do like the look of the 90 I must admit and the fact that it`s lighter appeals to me too. Best wishes from Liverpool.
