Some of the smaller schooling fish i saw were juvenile perch, but for the other small ones I'm not sure what species they are.

Hi, no I don't have a drone. Underwater video was taken with an Olympus TG-6, and above-water video with a Google Pixel 6 Pro smartphone. Cheers!

Hi @benreed5575, I stayed on Derawan island at Scuba Junkie Sangalaki (some bungalows over the water). But there are plenty of other guest houses and small hotels, restaurants, etc on the island, to suit a range of budgets. I suspect many places are not on the internet. Derawan is a popular destination with domestic tourists. Have fun!

Thank you! I used 3 different cameras. 1: wide angle footage was using a Paralenz + (sadly this company now bankrupt); 2: Canon Powershot S100 for most other footage; 3: Olympus TG-6 (the first whaleshark footage).

Thank you. Derawan (also Maratua? - now has an airport) are the islands with accommodation. Some shallow reefs around Derawan which is why they have built lots of 'over-water' bungalows, also some nice sandy beaches for swimming. Some fabulous hard coral reefs in the area with all the 'usual' fish and critters, particularly around Kakaban and Sangalaki islands (you need a boat to get to these and no accommodation AFAIK). Snorkelling highlights or unique features include the 'jellyfish lake' on Kakaban, and the whalesharks at the fishing platforms / bagans, and Sangalaki is famous as an important turtle nesting island. If you're lucky, manta rays around Sangalaki. I'd rate this area very highly (the above water scenery and beaches are also beautiful) but maybe just below Alor and Komodo, mostly because its a 'smaller' area. I had a really good time there. Hi, yes the blacktips were in the shallow coral rubble in front of Kepa, either in late afternoon or when the tides were coming in I think! I've been watching some of your videos, really good, wish I was back there 😀

Hi, thank you! Yes I stayed at La Petite Kepa, and did a lot of snorkelling at the reef in front of the resort. The dark blue triggerfish are red-toothed triggerfish (Odonus niger), cheers!

@@Snorkellovers Oh I see! 5:33 and 5:45 were at Bama wall I think, and 8:50 was the house reef at Kepa. At the right time during the tide, so lots of action.

With the anemones? Yes, a few places along that part of Pura, sometimes cold water though!

Yes. The video contains footage from about 2 weeks day-trip diving into the park. There were times on a dive I literally could not see the dive guides as there were too many fish. Note this was 10 years ago, and I'm not sure how it compares now..
