Bicycle Infrastructure that Sucks
Lots of bicycle infrastructure sucks, because the people planning it don't think about what it's really going to be like to use it. Here's one example, from Lakeland, FL.

I was riding my bike home from work and I got a flat tire miles from work and miles from home. So, I had to push my bike a couple miles to my local Trek store. But, before long, I was back on my ride home.

Why you should buy a '90s mountain bike, and why I sold mine
Просмотров 1418 месяцев назад
There's some good advice out there that says, "Just buy a '90s mountain bike." This is because the mountain bike frames and components from the '90s are known for being solid and reliable. I agree with that advice, but I recently sold my '90s Specialized CrossRoads. Here's the story of why.

Review of the HeyBike Sola

This is my review of the HeyBike Sola, which is a Class 2 e-bike. This review is not sponsored. I bought the bike for my personal use. UPDATE: Just hours after I posted this video, HeyBike sent me an email letting me know the correct rear rack is on its way to me. So far, my experience with customer service has been very good. I'll update again in the future after the rack arrives.

I bought the Jinsanity Performance universal cross bars Amazon for $66 and installed them on my 2014 VW Jetta Sportwagen. They worked great and are a fraction of the price of name brand roof rack cross bars.

    Good info. The robot voiceover is distracting and annoying, though.

    Problem with the bending of backboard is two reasons. The backboards are to thin and weak need to be dobbled up or replace with stiffer backboard. Also the hooks that hold the panniers on the rack are not spaced properly. They need to be as far to the outside of the backboard as the rack allows.

    The bend by the rack in due time. It probably bends more from wear. They need a bar across the mounts to keep it from bending or sagging. In the video you see the bend. On where you mount it they bend a simple bar across it will stop the bend or sag just a noticeable thing I’d say could be a negative on a sell to me

      I've been using them for a while, and they're holding up well. I don't see any significant signs of damage or wear. I've had probably 10lbs in each side without issue.

Your guys' videos give me ideas and suggestions on where to go next. I think I'll try fraser trail next. 😊

      If you’re into road bike culture, there are often riders out at University Blvd and Research Way near Florida Polytechnic University. They’re there Sunday mornings around 10am and many weekday evenings. The folks at the Trek store also have a group ride on weekends. It starts at Southgate Shopping Center. You can stop by there to get info. Also check out the Lakeland City website on routes (link below). And let me know if you have ideas for content on this channel. www.lakelandgov.net/departments/parks-recreation-and-cultural-arts/bicycling-in-lakeland/trails-facilities/

      @@lakelandcycling Hey thanks for these suggestions. I'm actually riding a road bike :) Most of the time I have been riding solo from the Philippines. Then I moved here a few months ago and everything's like new for me, definitely needed some company riding. 💯 Have you been to Bonnet Springs Park? It's pretty cool down there. Good idea for the next video. :)

    @lykelmacaranas6605 9 месяцев назад

    Yeah, they didn't really improve that part of downtown Lakeland for cyclists. Not sure why they left a portion of the road going in to downtown without a bike lane. 😬 I usually prefer riding on other streets parallel to S Florida Ave if I can, they're just less busy.

    • @lakelandcycling

      I’m hoping the mess downtown is just an intermediate step towards productive change. The Dixieland road diet was very controversial, even though it’s objectively good. I’ve talked to a few people in the city, and they do seem to want good bicycle infrastructure long term. Of course, time will tell.

    Great review! I just mounted the same rack. I noticed that the knob (locked) is able to be spun off when there isn't a bike being held. Can you tell me if yours does the same? I'd like to return, if this is an issue. Thanks

    • @lakelandcycling
      @lakelandcycling Год назад

      Yes, it can be spun all the way off. But I haven’t found that to be a problem. Somebody could steal the knob just to be a jerk, but I doubt many people would even pay attention to the rack. And replacement knobs are available for $7 + shipping from Swagman.

      I just finished install onto the roof. The clamp knob just spins loosely in place. What am i missing?
