A & P Blues
"A & P Blues".
Chicago, West Side. We did our grocery shopping at the A & P at 16th and Pulaski. My mother would pull our red wagon with my sisters in it; I had to walk, being the "boy". And did I whine about having to walk while they rode? What a little bitchass dude I was......

Take The "A" Train (get off at Far Rockaway-Mott)

Take The "A" Train (get off at Far Rockaway-Mott) I took the chord changes to "Take The 'A' Train", by Duke Ellington, and let my fossilized imagination take over and do as it will. I'm gonna have a productive day with the 6 strings. I had a great boxing lesson with my son; showed him how to throw combinations on the heavy bag and the double-end bag in musical rhythmic phrases. He put on a drum...
Bye-Ya

"Bye-Ya" by Thelonious Sphere Monk. I was thinking, if my father and Monk were still alive, they'd both be 107 and still total badasses. So hey, play some Monk.
Stella By Starlight

I've played "Stella By Starlight" countless times, but never under the influence of FOUR ORANGE HOSTESS CUPCAKES!!!!!!!!! This opens up a whole new world of imagination......I'll be taking a nap soon....when the sugar crashes...
Combined shit #3

"Combined Shit #3. Coughing, Langston Hughes, Charlie Patton, Boll Weevils, WTF more could you want???? Oh,...ok, beer!
United

"United", by Wayne Shorter. Had to make my own backing track, couldn't find one on the Webbinet. Works for me. I hope you enjoy it.
Swedish Bingo

"Swedish Bingo", by my good friend, John Stowell. I really love John, he is a very kind and generous musician. Every year when he comes East, he lets me know where he will be, and I get to see him and sit in; talking about learning on the fly!!! His compositions are very difficult, but total ear-openers.
Nobody Else But Me

"Nobody Else But Me" was Jerome Kern's last composition (1945); a very unusual form and harmony, not easy, but pretty way cool.
Invitation

"Invitation" by Bronislau Kaper. What a sultry, seductive song....the lyrics too. This one is just me and my pal, Mr. Sunnybass. He is a real hilltopper.
Don't Blame Me

"Don't Blame Me" is one of the tunes I'm working on for my superb classes with Steve Herberman. I'm getting a whole lotta good stuff given to me!
Lineage, by Juan Dhas

I have previously posted my takes on "Narrative Soloing", a series of etudes by Juan Dhas, and they are all truly fantastic advanced work for those with a taste for non-standard etudes. The one I tried here, "Lineage", is one I had not worked on before, but when I ran through it, I HAD to click on the camera!!!! Whoa, is this one cool!
Alone Together

"Alone Together"? Yup, that's me and Big Boy, now that he has new, bright strings! Ah, life is good being alone together. Now I need new strings on Not Big Boy (my Gibson 335....my wife bought it for me!)
Watch What Happens

I just put new strings on Big Boy, and he wanted me to hear and "Watch What Happens"....

Πολύ καλός είσαι φίλε. Παρακολουθώ και μαθαίνω. Ευχαριστώ
Thank you!!!
Wonderful, strange, challenging, I loved listening!
THANK YOU!!!! Yes, I have gotten to where I no longer feel constrained to stay withing traditional chord shapes, standard scales, but think of intervals, physical shapes, and clusters; as long as you keep coming back to reference points that keep the ear grounded, I feel uninhibited in just 'hearing' things.

@ Echoes of Wes Montgomery!
@@Joseph-nk8se I can only say thank you again Sir!!!
@ Very inspirational. I’m self teaching, perhaps I could benefit from a teacher to really get me going. Love your technique. Are you self taught and/or have you taken formal lessons?
@@Joseph-nk8se I was completely self-taught until a few years ago when I started online lessons with Peter Mazza and Steve Herberman. I learned by listening to records, the radio, playing along with whatever came on the TV; I played in a lot of groups and learned by messing up and fixing it!!
Beautiful! Keep going, I wish you the best♥
Thank you very much, and all the best to you as well.

James...Beautiful Man...sincerly....I sat and listened to it a couple of times...then..a melody and lyrics began in my mind....James....It,s only a opinion, not a critique....But..." Alone " ( with a guitar )...would be more...complete...better resolved, with the right melody and lyrics, that could bring it..." Together "...Just a thought...It,s a Great piece of work fella...By the By...Do you play gigs around the Chicago area ?
Thank you VERY MUCH for your attention and thoughts! I only played the melody in an open way after the initial improv, and yeah, straight melody and lyrics would be cool, but the last time I tried to sing anything, volcanoes erupted in Indonesia!!!! I'm not ic Chicago any more; I gave the Broad Shoulders my first 60 years, and the last 12 have been in Rhode Island. There are HILLS AND TREES HERE!!!!!
Thank you, James, greetings from Argentina, keep it up

I like how you sing or talk what you are playing.
Hahahaha!!!! YES!!!! I didn't actually realize I was doing that until it was pointed out maybe 8 or 10 years ago, as I don't actually make audible sounds, but I DO have the lines coming through both hands and mouth!!! Thank you VERY much.
