thanks, this was realistically the very first time I ever tried C&T style fighting.

I train with William Wilson (pretty much the guy who started cut and thrust in the sca) about 4 days a week and the biggest thing I can see that would help you out is to stop stepping before your attack. William has a book out that is already on kindle and it will be out in print with pictures in the 2-3 months. It did a ton for my form.
