The assumption is that Bourdain was great, but watching this show, he comes across as a bored and boring Toronto-style hipster with the same suffocating 'earthy' personality of the Yunge Street crowd that nobody outside of Toronto ever appreciated. While he is not arrogant, his false humility comes across as patronizing. There is a performer, and I call him a performer because that is what he is, George Stroumboulopoulos. An extrovert, he is the exact opposite of Bourdain. Feigning an interest in hockey and music and politics, both come across as not with it. Not that I am asking for Mario Batali or Connie Chung here, but Bourdain seems out of place in this show. I watched this Rome one out of curiosity after the Asia haters began blaming her for the tragic and deliberate suicide of a man with a lifelong struggle with alcoholic blackouts, fear of commitment, workaholism, escapism, heroin, and sex. Really, extreme personalities do extreme things. This realization doesn't reduce the significance of his death or family's loss, but it hardly makes Asia responsible. They may have had a difficult relationship. She came across as disinterested. He came across as obsessive and desperate. Not a good basis for a relationship. He was still married and sleeping with prostitutes. Girlfriend was not the right word for Asia here. She had two failed marriages behind her and was trying to pay bills, raise kids, and restart her career. Obviously, a relationship with a married man who traveled over 200 days a year was not going to be her priority, especially if he slept with hookers and agreed to an open relationship. In reality, he didn't have a right to be mad. He might have if he had been her common-law, long-term, monogamous, live-in boyfriend. It just adds to the troubled mentality and lifestyle around him. Not that I am really judging him, just pointing out the reality of the situation. The worse you could say about her was that she was a little angry or callous, not a murderer. The matters of Harvey Weinstein, accusations of her engaging in statutory rape, hush money, tabloids, and all that other sordid stuff doesn't even matter here. There was enough to go without all that.
This episode has been wiped from history on HBO Max. Same thing with the episode Asia directed, Hong Kong. Thanks RUclips for settling my morbid curiosity.
I wish Anthony Bourdain never met Asia Argento. He would be alive today if he had never met her. Tony's marriage to Ottavia and then having a child,Arianna was the best thing that happened to Tony.
for anybody wondering about the amazing "stornelli" (roman serenade) the woman is singing in the street market is talented folk singer Lucilla Galeazzi.
❤So fitting that he'd do a whole episode on fascism in 2016 and talk about how it turned out for the Italians and the Germans the last go-around. I'm glad to hear he was not pro you know who... 🫶
The black and white Rome episode from No Reservations was so much better. In fact, the reason HBO pulled this episode from streaming was because people hated Asia Argento so much and they started threatening her. Like other people have said, she's a piece of work, and not in a good way. She even managed to freak out Abel Ferrara. RIP Tony
OMG, Asia Argento reminds of Leah Remini. Asia could be her sister. The face, tone of voice, and attitude are similar. incidentally, both are in the acting biz.
I still don't understand why he did what he did! I know it was a matter of the heart? But he has the coolest job on the planet. Going around the globe trying the dishes that are popular there. Seeing everything! Catching flights regularly. He's in a new country like, every month. He could have replaced her easily! WTF he was rich. I mean WTF
This episode is NOT included in the HBO Max episodes…I wonder why. This is the first I have been able to start watching again since his suicide. Bad choices Tony, pity. Thank you for uploading…
Well, Tony Bourdain..what can I say. He couldn't complain about his upbringing or his mother, although his two wives much were like his mom. He did the hard yards before reaching 'fame and fortune' But why did he top himself? Like Nick Romano in 'Knock on Any Door' the die young and have good looking corpse seemed to be his go! Well, he disappointed all of his fans. He left his mark. That's for sure. But...everybody has their problems...Me? EST, months in hospitals...it was a c**nt act! I could tell by his taste in music..And the torture test at the gym...he was a failure in the end
I feel like Tony was thinking more with his second head when he became attracted to her. I really dont understand why this man fell for her. IMO Tony was a damaged person so of course he was attracted to a giant pile of hot shit like Asia. Nothing about her vibe seems positive. Her kids are cute and that seems to be the only redeeming factor about her. Something about her aurora is dark and evil.
Think he lifted a lot of the Rome (Mussolini) episode from Jonathan Meades
I love how the pretentious little boy succumbs to the tripe😂 bless him, great mind
Asia Argento broke his lonely heart, she killed him.
Single Mother. Yeah....
Big fucking surprise!
Why does the thumbnail have Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell?
Little did we know that Rome was the end of the line complete with the world’s sh*test girlfriend.
No one more disgusting than Asia Argento.
Except Anthony Bourdain!
Rest in peace Anthony. She doesn't deserve you.

She looks like Winona Ryder
I don’t understand why any man would find Asia attractive… even sounds like a man.

8:40 meeting the woman that would bring him to his end....
Bourdain is great, the people that produce these shows don't get enough credit.
Excellent point. Very true
Here he met the woman that led to his death.
When Nikola eats the tripe, almost barfs. Then he apologized and almost cried. For me.
for anybody wondering about the amazing "stornelli" (roman serenade) the woman is singing in the street market is talented folk singer Lucilla Galeazzi.
She was the Best part of this episode.
Her performance slayed me,any idea the name of the song she's singing?
Beginning of the end for AB
Comparing Trump to Mussolini is ridiculous.
🙄🙄🙄🙄
Sad to know that Anthony fell so deeply into her, and that he was so deeply disappointed as to take his own life. She really did a number on him.
❤So fitting that he'd do a whole episode on fascism in 2016 and talk about how it turned out for the Italians and the Germans the last go-around. I'm glad to hear he was not pro you know who... 🫶
Isn't she the reason he hung himself?
"now he's champion of changing tires" that line was so thick of Italian 😂

Dear Anthony we miss you so much ❤
They were about 19 years apart in age?
ASIA ARGENTO IS A GROSS HUMAN
OMG, Asia Argento reminds of Leah Remini. Asia could be her sister. The face, tone of voice, and attitude are similar. incidentally, both are in the acting biz.
She is a known sexual abuser.
Rip

It’s hard to watch this with Asia in it, she’s a piece of work
She did what he allowed her to get away with, it's frog and scorpion type deal.
The ending to the program was really weird. RIP brother
18:45 damn this song has so much soul
Asia is dangerous and fake
This episode is NOT included in the HBO Max episodes…I wonder why. This is the first I have been able to start watching again since his suicide. Bad choices Tony, pity. Thank you for uploading…
This is when he first met Asia, it seems that CNN wants to avoid controversy.

ohhh God how I miss this man and his program
Hard to watch this now
Yes but fuck the fact that the restaurant with a boxing ring doesn't exist, in the show it's sold as a real thing. Fuckin misleading, disappointed

LOL. She is a wicked woman.
Anthony had an additive personality
'sta sudiciona!
This episode has become hard to watch.
I'm just going to say it - F**K Asia Argento! Anthony Bourdain - Gone too soon! RIP 💔
I wish Mr. Bourdain had just retired......his soul needed a rest from all this cynicism and stark world history.
