I have been trying to call my anger what it is and actually call it anger rather than frustration or annoyance. As women we are conditioned to not feel angry or to tone down our anger to more mild emotions like frustration or annoyance. So I am working to be better and name my emotions as they actually are

My PhD is at the same university I did my bachelors and I’ve been working with my advisor for longer than my PhD. So I have absolutely no concept of what happened when and time in general. I feel ya on that.

I can completely relate to this, Lauren. I'm a graduate student and I also work full-time at a corporate job. I've always been used to aiming high and getting everything done. When my father passed away unexpectedly a month before Christmas, the world changed for me profoundly. There are days when I feel a spark of that old motivation and drive I had before, and there are days when I don't. And then there are weeks that turn everything upside down, and I feel like I'm back at square one. But we always hear that grief isn't a linear journey, and it's true. I am so sorry for your loss, and I want to thank you for sharing your tips and your journey. It has helped me feel less alone in this difficult time. ❤

I’m sooooo guilty of not keeping an updated resume-there’s such an art to resume writing compared to just adding to a CV and I need to practice that more frequently.

I have also been in total work mode lately. Typically in the summer I work about 6 hours a day so I have time to enjoy the “break” and mostly the weather. But lately I have been doing 7-9 hour days. But it’s felt really good to be plowing through to-do lists and writing objectives.

I can’t believe you got all that from goodwill for less than $20! I especially love the sweatshirt for the color. I have come to a cross roads in my program where I have been offered a fellowship but it would guarantee that I’m in my program for 2 more years, but if I don’t take it, I could almost certainly graduate early. Lots to think about in the next 6 days before the decision deadline.

I do my best to get home and into a dark quiet room when I am heading towards migraine territory. Since most of my work is done on campus, it's not always feasible, but it does make the recovery way nicer and quicker in case my brain goes down that path.

its dangerous advice to tell your viewers that should they "move on" from having horrible experiences with professors or view these experiences as "one day you'll look back at it" in the name of "a lesson learned." you saying this reproduces this toxic dynamics where students are just expected to move. to anyone else reading this, please speak to the chair and/or head of your department if a professor is singling you out unfairly.

That mistake is not so bad... since it's online too you can hopefully get a bunch of participants relatively quickly to make up for it.. thanks for sharing - I'm a first year and I am constantly making mistakes LOL I do developmental cognitive research in-person at libraries and stuff and the other day I almost gave a family the ENTIRE envelope of participant compensation (like over $100) but thank GOD another student noticed before the family walked out with it! 😅
