Releasing the Queen
We introduced a BMH Queen last Friday and removed the clip last Sunday.
Inspected today and she was still in the cage so I took a chance on releasing her straight onto a frame, it looks like they have accepted her.
Apologies re the heavy breathing I think the mic was too close to my mouth.

🐝 😊
The honey is delicious. Hoping I get some next year too.

I love that hive… did you have any issues with water ingress? I see Lawrence from BMH has had to seal his hive somewhere?
Yes I put a rubber seal around the edge, the owner was very helpful it is a very new product so it is developing all the time. Mine is Noochii Hive number 8 which happens to be my lucky number 😊
I love Nooochii
First pls pin Also love ur content 😊
I love this hive 👍🏻🐝❤️
Us too! 😊
Cheers for the updates, the virgins can be tricky to spot, just hope weather keeps good for mating flights. Sorry cell failed, but worth a try. Its good that you have resources, so you can give the needy colonies a helping hand. Enjoy your vids, thanks so much.
Cheers Peter so much trial and error, if you don't give it a go you never know.
What are you? An astronaut?
Lol Beekeeper
Nice work buddy… get ready for all those colonies to explode soon. Keep up the good work 🐝🐝🐝
Sounds like a great day, its always good to talk to others about things you are passionate about.
Hi Mark, thank you so much for the experience! I was the girl who was way too excited about wearing a fetching bee suit. You were really insightful, interesting and hilarious. Hoping to come over to you to have another bee experience. Thanks again, and happy bee day!
Hi Amber, Thanks for volunteering to pop the outfit on, so glad you enjoyed it. Just drop me a line to book the experience day in the Apiary They are such amazing creatures. Thanks again Mark DunnyBees
How do you know if one is stronger than another?
Thanks for that, good luck with the cells. I take it that you had taken the original queens away for splits? Do you keep your splits in same apiary, or are you lucky to have a second one? Ta. Have a good week.
I have taken the Queens to make splits, I am lucky that I have a large garden so the splits are in another garden away from the Apiary and all doing well.
That was a lot of queen cells
I know one only had three the other had 11
A very prolific queen. Will you do a split from this colony, they are building up quickly? Ta for the this update.
Yes I think I will have to I can do a spilt in the same hive one at either end
Yes the beauty of this is I can make the splits in the same hive
With this decent spell in the weather, they will flourish, do you plan to do a few splits once they have built up? Always worth having a few spare nucs next spring, I am sure you could sell a few! 😊
Always helpful to see when a colony has not thrived as this is a reality of beekeeping. Quite a lot if bees there, did the original queen fail quite recently? Did it become drone laying colony, which i know are hard to resolve? Ta for posting😊
Yes these came out of winter with a DLQ it was a long shot to introduce another Queen but I felt it was worth taking a chance. The colony would have failed if I had done nothing, it is all part of the learning curve :-)
Thanks for that. Look forward to the updates. Did the hive come already assembled, it looks great?
Yes just the legs need attaching, I actually collected mine while I was at the Beekeeping Show. Really looking forward to see how the bees get on in here.
@@DunnyBees Thanks, might get one myself!
Need a bigger garden mate
Got a large garden, this is the back of my garage and Honey room. No bees in my garden yet
Beautiful
This garden is absolutely amazing! Bees are nice 🙂
Bees are amazing, thanks for your kind comments, this is our home Apiary we built from some waste land being the garage.
"Its my dream,i have goosebumps." Chris, you need to get out more! 😂 It is great though! 👍🏻
That's called a standing climax.
Nice work sir 👍🏻🐝
Nice one mate … good luck 🤞🏻
Nice video… look forward to the Queen introduction video
I admire your optimism but I'd have shook that out and called it a day with them.
Its good you have the two decent nucs, i expext you can do a split or two from them (either buy in a mated queen or utilise queen cell) From my limited experience it's probably not worth spending too much time or resources on a failing colony. Keep us updated and have subscribed.😊 😊
We have ordered in a queen from Black Mountain Honey, lets see how we go. We will keep you posted.
@@DunnyBees My current queens are daughters from a BMH Buckfast bought in a couple of years back. Laurence has done an excellent vid re introductions, but expect you have seen this anyway. Hope weather improves, cold and not at all springlike in Sussex today.
I would Pop in a frame of eggs and treat with ox dribble and feed.
I popped a frame in the week before with no outcome, I have since culled all the drone brood and Instavapped. New queen comes on Thursday fingers crossed
@@DunnyBees Good Luck.
What do you do? I think colonies with drone laying queens are basically finished and the best thing to do is to move the box away and shake the bees off the frames into the air. The bees will then move into your other colonies. However, you could put your good frame into a nuc box (after shaking the bees off) and put the nuc box where your brood box is now. Then shake the bees in the air and let them fly back to the nuc box. (with a feeder with feed on) If they haven't made a queen cell on your introduced frame they think they still have a queen. If you shake the bees off the frames 12 feet away any queen that is there won't find her way back - but the flying bees will. Then after a few days you could put in a frame with eggs. A good brood brake will also reduce the mite problem that are vectoring the deformed wing virus. Of course, if you had one, a frame with a queen cell on placed in the nuc box for the flying bees to return home to would be ideal.
Thanks for your comments very useful, so here is the story from here, I have ordered in a mated Queen, the first time I have done this. I have culled all the drone brood, so hard to find the queen with so many drones. I took this opportunity to Instavap the colony. Could really do with finding the queen if there is one before I introduce the new one. Fingers crossed
Yes pal 100%
New queen inbound 🫅
I ❤ this ,,hope u got ur queen 😊
