      I think it would depend on what type of finch. What type are you thinking? I have got king (button) quail at the bottom of the kakas aviary and they will share food together.

      @@Cohen-xj1jm I got my aviary custom built by classic per enclosures. They are in Melbourne from memory. The aviary was not cheap. If you'd like to contact me further to discus prices, I'm happy to do so, but in private message! What sort if finches are you looking to get?

      Maybe owl finches? I’ve heard they are cold hardy and in central vic that’s very important 😂. Maybe diamond doves as well? It’s been a dream since I was young but thanks for the advice on the aviary! I have wanted to build one but it might be too time consuming for my family. Keep posting bird videos! I’m here for it!

      @@Cohen-xj1jm I've never had diamond doves. I've got 6 owl finches. They are pretty good in the cold.... I'd also recommend star finches. They are gorgeous and never lost one through out the winter. I think if they are bred and raised in outdoor aviaries they will be fine It's the ones bred inside that you'll have problems with if you want to keep them outside. Thanks for the comments. I'll be sure to post more bird videos 😀

    Wowwwww I don't know how do you have time/power for it. I have 2 gerbil, 2 guineapig and 59 birds(2 kakarikies and a lot of finch species) and soon I will adopt 2 diamond dove too and more chicks will hatch soon. At the morning I take care of the finches and later when I arrive home after work I feed the rodents and the parrots and I play with them a lot. The weekly cleaning is the hardest part and this is the reason why I think about twice before I get a new pet. All in all, huge respect for you and your aviary is beautiful.

    • @nicholesminifarm
      @nicholesminifarm 5 месяцев назад

      It does help having a good routine. Twice a week the aviaries get a full clean out (taking corn cobs, old food off the ground, and collecting all the quail eggs!) I do all my other pens once a week and I use hemp bedding (can't recommend enough) best stuff going around. Helps with keeping down smells and absorbs moisture. But, yes it is a big job, I know what you mean when you say you think twice about getting new pets. As I always say, If you have pets, you need to look after them and spoil them rotten! Thank you so much for your comment, greatly appreciated. 😊

      I do have 1 pair of kakas. They are hilarious don't you think. And I have almost every species of finch you can think of. They are just amazing. My main bird of choice is scarlet parrots, I just love them. ❤️

    Wow that is wonderful. I used to work at a big aviary like this back in the late 90s. It was privately owned and my boss had a lovely house. Best job I ever had. But I only worked there for a year and he decided to retire and quit bird. I had no idea he was planning that and it was so sad for me. I've always wanted something like this for myself. I have lots of pets too but not as many as you. I have budgies, a pair of parrotlets, chickens and a doberman. Birds are my main passion. Oh and carnivorous plants.

      @nicholesminifarm 5 месяцев назад

      Oh that's amazing. I would love to work for someone that had aviaries, instead of the 9 to 5 normal job! What sort of chickens do you have? And a Doberman? Awww, how gorgeous! I have heard they are big babies.... any truth in that? 😅

    • @ScaryFear
      @ScaryFear 5 месяцев назад

      @@nicholesminifarm It was definitely a dream job. I have marans, Swedish Flower Hens, Salmon Faverolles and a few other mixed breeds. Yes, my doberman named Olive is a big baby but also challenges me from time to time. She's my first dog and been very difficult for me. You can't let them get away with anything. And she is a good gaurd dog too. I do have a problem with dog aggression though so she can't meet other dogs. I have videos on my channel. You can see my chickens and Olive on a video where I freed grubs to my hens.

    Amazing! Congratulations. I'm glad you had 100% success. That's so rare. The babies are so cute. Glad both incubators are good too. I hope to have emus one day. I'm incubating little budgie eggs. My mother budgie destroyed the last batch. I was so upset. Last year was my first time incubating with chickens. I have a Nurture Right 360 which has been my first real good incubator. I'm glad you did this video over time too. And yes glad you didn't show all the numbers as after a few examples I get the gist of it. I always find the eggs moving to be so amazing.

      Yes, this aviary is 2 years old, and all the birds have gone through 2 winters. 95% of my birds have been bred in outdoor aviaries, so it's just natural for them to be outside. The coldest it will get here in winter is around 2 or 3 degrees celcius.

    Good morning from Florida. I think your mixed flock aviary is lovely. Wow, not sure what I could say since the aviaries I've had haven't been that nice. It's nice you have a sun and shade spot. I guess my only concern is the flat roof. Would the rain run off that ok? I love that you have trees and plants in there. Makes it so nice. I like the hanging ladders and toys. And the little wire tunnels hanging. I saw some of the birds playing in them. I love the ingloos for you quails. Great idea. The water looks good too but yeah if you add a water feature it would make it really cool and I'm sure you and the birds would enjoy the sound. I think birds are more apts to bath if water makes noise.

    • @nicholesminifarm
      @nicholesminifarm Год назад

      Hello there, thank you for your comments. As for thr roof. It is sloped to the back of the aviary and I have guttering there, which goes straight into a water tank that I use for the birds water and to clean the aviary. It's not a huge slope so is a bit hard to see on the video. I will definitely be investing in a water feature at some stage, think that will set it off. Thanks again for your comments and watching the video. 😁

    Back in the 60’s when I was 4 or 5 we often spent a few weeks out of the year staying with our Aunt and Uncles’ at their sheep and cattle station in central western NSW. I have a very clear memory to this day of exploring the area behind the wool shed. In the long brown grass I came upon a huge dark egg I’d never seen before, bent down and touched it. It was cold. With the small stick in my hand I tapped it twice before it exploded like a bomb all over me. I remember the smell. It was *horrendous*. The next thing I remember about that incident was sitting in the old cast iron tub with my mother and Aunt scrubbing me all over with coarse brushes, pegs on their noses, admonishing me between gags. They never quite forgave for me that. Well, lesson learned. I’ve never tapped an abandoned egg ever again, but the very sight of an emu egg to this day reminds me of that day. Edit: Spelling corrections.
