I can appreciate what they were trying to do with Zero Tolerance, but I feel the effort put into some of the features that make NO sense, like ducking and jumping, would have been better served making the engine run a little bit better.

People like to crap on this game now, but when it came out the graphics were really impressive in the arcade. The realistic visual style was revolutionary at the time. The other game that I remember using the digitized graphics style was the arcade game NARC. These paved the way for this style to be used later in Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam. I rented the Genesis version of Pit-fighter and it was an ok rental. Didn't look as good as the arcade and was pretty boring, but still made you feel like you were playing something more advanced than 8 bit games at home, which was cool.

A lot of people will agree with you on most points. Just a minor correction: during the "heyday" era in like 2013-2015, the biggest viewer draws by far was the zeldas and the marios. Even things like zelda had 100% runs that lasted 5 hours. So that was always a part of the marathon events, its not a new development. You are correct however about the lack of retro content. "Classic" games done quick was the origin and the main reason people wanted to tune in. They were classic games everyone was familiar with. Looking at the schedule for SGDQ this week and its missing everything that made GDQ popular back then. Barely any mega man, zelda, kirby, metroid, mario... etc. Its like 80% PC games that came out within the last few years and have no following at all. And longer games means less room for other games to make the cut. GDQ also scaled up massively, starting from a basement with a few guys to a huge convention center. The explosion of popularity and new blood has influenced the general direction of these events. If you don't enjoy the current format, it means you're old like me, and the event is no longer made for you. The super bowl analogy is more like: tuning in to watch the super bowl and instead of a regular match between two teams to see who's the champion, its like a weird challenge game where they bring in people you dont know to run plays and all the rules are different. Frustrating. I think eventually a new marathon will rise to take its place because that niche needs to be refilled, a lot of people want that. Problem is it will have to start bare bones, grass roots, just how GDQ started too. Not many people want to take on that burden

Back in the day all I had to worry about was instances like the time I was throwing a foam ball around the basement and have it land directly on the SNES, knocking FFIII/VI right in the cartridge while my older brother was playing it, resetting the game AND deleting all save files. Because that was... uhh... tragic for both parties in different ways. XD

In my early days of MGC I had the same thing happening to my Dreamcast VMUs. I finally just has a couple of Master VMUs that I could just recopy the data back on to.

It could be curious ignorance but in my opinion it's griefing. In this case, vandalizing the memory card and ruining it for everybody else. It's why people can't have nice things. Hope nobody breaks your console hardware.

I bought my frst Jaguar in the spring of 1996 which unfortunately was right after Atari merged with JTS corp. But I've been a fan ever since. Love the controller and the games.

Cheers man, thanks for the video! I liked it, not only because all of the CRTs (now I don't feel so bad I have a ton of them as well :D), but also because of the positive view on the Jaguar. It is a neat system; sure, it has its flaws and the retail library is a mixed bag, but that applies to some other consoles as well. Anyways, hope you'll dig into the system some more and keep the spirit up!

It failed as it didn't ship with a cd player, and the controller was dog-awful, when it people had already been exposed to SNES controllers and Street Fighter II. They also lied about the 64 bit aspect.

Atari Jaguar has 5 processors! Jerry is a 32-bit DSP, and the Tom chip contains 3 processors: 32-bit GPU, 64-bit Object Processor and 64-bit Blitter. And the Motorola 68000. So there is 2 32-bit, 2 64- bit and a 16/32-bit hybrid. Should be at least 208-bit 😂

Preordered way back then, console and 3 games. Waited weeks over promised delivery (thought it was good sign, it was not). Arrived with the pack in and one of the 3 games I Ordered. The Pack In Cybermorph was in the kindest words I can use, a great tech demo, but it was not really a game. Trevor McFur was pretty sad too, I know some like it and that's ok. So when opened, unlike most consoles of the time there was no reason to play it. But growing up Atari i held on, got Tempest 2000 and AVP and all was good again. To this day for the time they were great games Tempest 2000 should have been pack in. I got the rest of my games (most that were released) for cheap as everybody was selling them at huge discounts. I have got the CD unit and ti still works. Other than Tempest 2k and AvP, Irons Solider was about the only other game I played any amount of. SOme games were ok but there was so much better on other systems. Same time as you mentioned I picked up a 3do with i think 7 games for $200 new. I can say I played it much more. Road Rash, Madden, and yes I would say Crash And Burn was better than 75% of the Atari games. I do agree, better pack in to get some sales. With more games at release, it may have been something. It would never have been in the top 3, but it could have been one of the also-rans for several years. One thing i always hear is how bad the control is, its in a lot of worst controllers ever lists. I don't agree, it was huge, and it should have had 6 buttons. but it was not bad to hold (opinion) and the keypad while seldom used worked well when it was. But I did grow up with the Intellivision pad which I hated till I used it a lot.

Very nice review. I love my Jaguar and am really glad to have it in my collection. It's especially cool that there are so many enthusiasts today that love it as well and seeing new things released for this old cat is just completely awesome.
