48 Triangle Division - Butterfly Pysanky Pattern
In this video I show how to use a 48 Triangle Pattern to create 12 beautiful butterflies. It's based on the 48 Triangle division and then similar to an earlier pattern - only a portion of the lines are waxed.

@@valeriepagnier8607 glad I could help! I have a Facebook group called Prayerful Arts - Pysanky. If you join, you could post pictures of your pysanka!
Hello, Crystal! Your goose eggs turned out beautifully! Why is it that old eggs don't take dye well? Some years ago, I inherited was some chicken and duck eggs from my late aunt, who passed on the art of pysanky to me. They've been carefully packed away, and now I wonder if they will be a challenge, too?
@reddragonfly2202 Since your aunt was already writing pysanky, the eggs were probably properly prepared for pysanky. These eggs were just emptied and saved for a different type of egg art - more like decoupage. However, duck eggs can be finicky, sometimes they take color beautifully, and sometimes the colors are more pastel. I'm sure you will do well to honor her memory when you write pysanky on them.
Looks great, love your work and videos as well. I have a suggestion that may help with outlining your painting. As a decorative painter myself, it should help to fill in the color first, thin outline paint making it flow easier then outline last. Pretty much the opposite of making pysanky.
@@theresejanoviak276 thanks!
Beautiful. Keep up the good work. Praying you are not too stressed near completion date. Godspeed 😊

I would love to see a video of the wedding ring design! Amazing!
@michellelandreth89 that's so awesome to know! I'm working on those videos now. They will be up in a few weeks! Thanks for watching! Stay tuned!
So beautiful! What kind of paint do you use? I tried India ink and found it to be streaky. Thank you for any tips and tricks!
I went to a local paint store called Born Paint. They suggested an oil based paint because this will go outside. It's called Rust-A-Void by Cornado. I got white and black, then had them mix some basic colors. I also mix other shades from the colors provided. It's runny, so I have to make sure I have small amounts on my paint brush.

What product did you use to etch your egg, it’s so beautiful!

Can I buy dye by the jar instead of the bag?
@marytoombs3101 all the dye I have purchased comes in some type of small bag. I don't know anyone that sells dye either already made in a jar or a large quantity of dry dye in a jar.

Ciao di che materiale è l'uovo gigante?Buon lavoro 💪👍
It's a very hard plastic material.
In the oven method, the wax starts to look shiny and runs a little. I'm not sure about full eggs as I've not used them in the oven. I would check every minute or so, I doubt it would cook the egg completely, but I'm not a 100% sure. If you find out, let me know. I'm curious!
Your videos are wonderful. I think I have watched almost all of them numerous times. When you did this pattern on chicken eggs you used a division of 6. What division did you use on the goose egg?
Thank you so much for watching. I checked on the goose egg and I did a division of six on it as well.
@@prayerfularts Thank you! I'll give it a try.
Good info! A couple of questions. I think you said, using the oven method, that the egg is ready about a minute "once the egg gets warmed up". If I'm using a full raw egg, how long does it take to warm the egg up? Should I check it after a minute, 3 minutes, 10 minutes? What should I be looking for? Dripping wax? a shine? Try wiping the wax off? And the other question is, if I'm using full raw eggs, will it cook the egg using the oven method? I love seeing your work, by the way - beautiful!
I'm so sorry for the delay in responding! If the egg is full, I'd check it after a couple of minutes. You should see a shine and also the wax will start to run. I don't think it will cook the egg as long as it's only in the oven a few minutes. Thanks for watching - and again, I sincerely apologize for the delay.
So cute! It will be a great starter project for me and my kids!
@@jessicastevens326 wonderful!

Would you be willing to share how you got the mottled dye effect? and those are so lovely! Now I want to get my kitska out and play.
@WedittsPlaythings I used alcohol inks and just kept blotting it all over the egg. I wore gloves and did a few layers.
@@prayerfularts Wonderful - thank you so much for sharing!!
I like the comparison of the messiness of a collage and life. I don't believe it will come together in the end until the next life for me, either. One thing I don't luke like about paint pens is that when you push on the nib to get the ink flowing (aka priming the paint pen), it creates a glob of unusable paint. And, it's been my experience that you have to prime the pen a lot while using it. I noticed you didn't have to prime your paint pen. Was it done beforehand off screen? Do you have to prime your paint pens/markers often while using them? Or have I just had bad luck when choosing acrylic paint pens/markers? I haven't tried very many brands of paint pens because they don't seem to work out for me very well. The ones I have tried were usually off-brands from China (pre-pandemic). I also tried a Sharpie white acrylic paint marker but, again, without much success. Oh, and I'm actually not trying the paint pens on an egg surface...just other surfaces like multimedia paper and canvases.
These were metallic markers and didn't need to be primed. I have also had good success with Posca markers. But as you mentioned, those need to be shaken and primed. I usually have some scrap paper to test the markers and hopefully get rid of the "puddles" before applying to the egg.
@@prayerfularts yeah, I usually prime them and use a different piece of paper for testing, which always creates some kind of puddle like you said. I honestly wouldn't mind that part but having to prime them multiple times throughout a project can be a pain. I usually resort to just using acrylic paint and a brush. 🥴
Having that many dyes would be really cool!

How many horizontal lines are drawn?
I believe I drew 6 horizontal lines, but you could draw a different number. The shape of the curve would be slightly different.
On a second look, it may have been seven lines. There were 5 lines with diamonds and two lines with triangles
