Dordt - wat zal ik ervan zeggen: ik ben er geboren
en woon er, op een paar onderbrekingen na,
al zo'n zesenvijftig jaar: dan weet je feitelijk niet beter:
Bankastraat, Voorstraat, Bagijnhof, Kromhout,
zelfde huizen, zelfde mensen, zelfde bomen, zelfde winkels:
K. Schippers schreef in een gedicht getiteld 'Bij Loosdrecht':
"Als dit Ierland was, zou ik beter kijken."
Het prettige is, vind ik, van Dordt dat ik er helemaal
niet meer hoef te kijken, maar lekker kan denken aan alles
wat maar bij mij opkomt: de stad stoort mij niet,
zomin als ik, hoop ik, de stad stoor:
wij zijn als twee goede buren
die elkaar welwillend toeknikken, soms even
een babbeltje maken maar verder ieder hun e...

Ahh...This video was my introduction to Momus in I think the mid-2010s - I wish I could remember a more specific date, given how significant Nick Currie has been to me ever since. Brilliant song by a brilliant, criminally underrated artist. When I first heard this song, the guitar solo instantly turned me off, but when I realized how brief it was, I recognized what he was doing. Nick always knew what he was doing. My favorite record of his is still Don't Stop the Night, but he continues to do interesting things even today. Edit: When I first saw this video, RUclips still allowed annotations! The ones for this video had the cat in the screenshot singing the words. Precious bit of history sadly lost to the sands of time. :(
