2007 Freightliner Columbia. I would imagine all manufactures are still doing this instead of having a "manual floor" with hole for stick vs "auto floor" with no hole.
Well there is a high low air operated actuator on the back of the transmission above and to the right of the output shaft that controls your high low range ork. Two things can go wrong with that the first of which is that it needs to be rebuilt with new O-rings/seals. For over-the-road drivers I would say if you haven't rebuilt it in 500,000 miles, it needs to be done. Secondly there is an electronic solenoid valve that supplies air to make that actuator go back and forth. Never seen one fail but it could be possible. I replaced mine at 1.3 million just in case. I would start there because you have normal shifting every other gear
Bro!!!!! We need more videos from you. Perfect!!! Very good explanation and straight to the point. Left me wanting more. You should have been a teacher. Thanks!!
Man you really lifted my day dude. Thank You for the confidence and taking couple minutes out to say something nice to someone. You never know how big something so simple like that can change someones direction for the better. Thanks
I've running my 2008 389 with this tranny for the past 12 years, and I must say they are great. The first time I changed the XY shifter at about 600 K when the clutch was being replaced, just wanted to make sure that every thing remains operating smoothly. Later at 858 K , I replaced the tranny with a reman, and at 1.1 Mill I changed the clutch for the second time. Once the clutch gets to 500K you better replace it while at home terminal, or you'll be ripped off on the road. Now I'm near 1.2 mill and it's time to get a new XY shifter rather than having bad dreams 😊. The key is, to do PMs as often as possible when you're home, or have bad brake down stories to tell.
Hello everyone if any one had same issue om kenworth t680 2017 paccar mx 13 Eaton transmission fault code comes on dash board sats Transmission fault ,repair required find repair service . also on gear service light blinks .. after shutting off and waiting few min and starting normal. any suggestions or some one have some issue and fix it ? thank you
My eaton 10 speed auto is only acting up in 1st and reverse. When I let off the throttle it feels like I have put on the brakes. Some times in 1st it hesitates to get going. Never displays any codes. Also some times at stop lights you can feel a slight surge like if you were driving manual and letting the clutch out slightly.
I have a 2005 Freightliner Century Class S/T, Detroit 60 series smartshift with the clutch pedal with no fault codes . When I first start it ,then put it in gear it shift fine I can drive for hours. When I need to take a break turn it off . then try to get it to go into gear it won't. I would have to sit for a while and then it will go into gear and drive for hours. Do the XY Shifter suppose to display fault codes? Please can someone help me
Hi. I recently purchased a Peterbilt 579 with an Eaton fuller advantage 10 spd auto. It runs great. The tractor has 520K on it Do you think I should proactively change those sensors? I'm just trying to stay ahead of problems. Ty
I did find that when I had to change mine they were extremely difficult to get out because the first series of the sensors had flat sides which bound up with rust. My tail shaft sensor actually snapped off in the bore. I was able to break it up and pull the pieces out. The new sensors whether or not you have them I don't know, have recessed sides which I believe is an attempt to keep them from locking in the bore. The original ones also weren't as lubed up as they could be which would protect the bores in which they sit. They are only like $45 a piece and even if you were to pull your old ones out and re grease them and throw them back in might be a good idea. My big recommendation for these is treat your wiring harness with respect. Download the PDF for the transmission and it will show you where all the wire ties need to go. Make sure none of the wires wiggle. loose wiring will cause early failure. Completely immobilize the entire harness. Many technicians never tie wrap anything back. I have my original harness at 1.3 million miles because I took care of it. Leave it loose and it won't last more than a couple hundred. My sensors went to about 900000 but it was a pain in the ass to get them out. My XY shifter usually lasts about five to six hundred thousand. The XY gear positions to start failing are 9 and 10 because that is where most of the shifting happens or those two areas get shifted between the most I should say. Your rail position sensors are the other ones that you may have to change before you even have to change the XY. If you bring it into a shop they probably will just replace the entire XY instead of the sensors. I can tell you that the diagnostic feature in these transmissions will tell you everything you need to know when you have a failure. It is awesome. Download the PDF and learn how to pull the codes and read them through the shift indicator. Unbelievable transmission good luck with it. You will not be disappointed once you learn it.
@@mrjgueret My truck has an Eaton auto shift, and during up shifts when it gets to 7th gear it takes a second attempt, and during down shifts from 10th to 9th it takes a second attempt. Also if I stop the truck real hard with a load or use the engine brake the transmission will get stuck in gear and won’t shift unless I turn it off and turn it back on like it was in limp mode. Can you help me diagnose it? Thanks
@@sstevocamaro I usually don't tell people it's their x y shifter immediately. But whenever I hear a 9-10 shift problem It's usually the xy shifter because 9 and 10 are the most frequently changed the gears. I'm not sure what's failing on the XY as I've never taken them apart but all I can figure is it may build flat spots on the armature of the motors between 9 and 10. Now I don't mean garbage truck or local delivery truck when I say 9- 10 are the most frequently shift shifted gears. Obviously if you're over the road you know which gears are shifted most. You're in 10 riding along and on a grade it always shifts to 9 and then back to 10 and so on. If you have no other transmission codes and it's acting wacky trying to shift it could definitely be the X Y if you haven't changed it out in 600,000 Mi you definitely need a new one.
I have a 2018 international LT and mine was acting up too mostly down shifting from 9 gear to 8. It wouldn't do it all the time but it was annoying. Finally took it international and they replaced the xy shifter and a harness. So far its running good you can feel the transmission going through the gear way better.
I have the same transmission and was told I need to grease my throw out bearing. The mechanic I use to do my PM's couldn't find the grease fitting. I removed the bottom plate and couldn't find any either. I was told their were three but I couldn't find even one. Any advice? Thank you.

retrieve active code and see which number it shows and look up the fault code, it's most likely one of 3 main sensors cause they are very sensitive or it could be the shifter too
Hi David, I would definitely download the PDF file on that transmission. I don't have a link for you but it shouldn't be hard to find it's all over the Internet. The whole service manual is written in plain English In pretty easy to follow and diagnose your own problems. As far as a reset, the transmission does a sensor check every time it powers up and powers down. There are wires going directly to your batteries that are the main power supply for the transmission "usually". Eaton Fuller did not want to rely on the truck manufacturer to supply the power needed "trust issues, load requirements". There are wires that go into the truck for all sorts of other functions communication, indication, gear selection, but the power wires go directly to the battery. I believe there are 2 And they are fused and can be followed right from the transmission controller to the batteries. If you intend to keep the transmission I would strongly suggest you read the introduction In the manual. After I did I knew I was keeping this transmission as long as possible. It will save you a ton of money.

bababa39 Chan the harness. It has bad connection on some of the sansors. $200 is the cost. And you change it from the top as this video is showing. Also change that sensor. (I bet you the connection to that sensor is bad that creates all those problems)
jasminko hodzic could be the harness...tho it is only a couple years old. We did have it happen again about a week after I left this comment. My driver remembered that another guy told him to tap the XY shifter a few times. So he reached down by the back of the engine and tapped it a couple light taps...and it started clicking and went right into neutral and shifted great again. Then it locked in gear momentarily driving down the road one day. I heard an air sound by the back of the engine. It was an airline that had the Eaton stamp on it with a pinhole that would leak sometimes and sometimes not. So I fixed that and worked good again since but we haven't drove it a whole lot since then as we had a head gasket going bad and it's in the shop getting a motor rebuild now.
mrjgueret it displays "1st gear from neutral, it up shifts and down shifts good. the problem is when it does not engage any gear it happens just all of sudden and the dash shows the gears just bouncing it does it on any gear. But it doesn't show any codes.
