So. Go to options, on sound test, enter with [B], 19, 65, 09, 17. You'll hear a chime. Then press +. This Will take you back to the title screen. Hold [Y] while pressing + on 1 player and it will prompt the level select which also has a sound test. On that one, enter 04, 01, 02, 06 for all chaos emeralds, then 09, 01, 01, 02, 01, 01, 02, 04; for debug, then You'll hear a chime for debug and a fanfare for emeralds. Then select a stage by highlighting it and holding [Y] while pressing +. Once in game, [B] switches to and from item mode, and while there, [Y] cycles and [A] duplicates. On 50 rings, jumping with [Y] or [A] activates golden sonic. Also, the main face buttons have effects while the screen is paused, so play with that too.
