Rotunda - Stuart Ironside
An original composition to be featured on my upcoming 2nd album.
Sarah Everard (1987-2021) was a young woman living in London who was abducted and murdered on March 3rd 2021 by an off duty police officer. In the aftermath of her murder a national conversation was started about women's safety and violent men in the police force, with grand statements about the need to stamp out misogyny and bring change.
A vigil in Sarah's memory took place on March 13th in Clapham Common, near where Sarah was taken. The police took a heavy handed approach to trying to enforce COVID restrictions of the time, violently breaking up the vigil and arresting four people - ironically displaying the kind of violenc...

A live recording of my version of the traditional Mandé song 'Kelefa'. Supposedly the first song ever written for the kora (a 21 string harp), it tells the story of the warrior Kelefa Sané from 18th century Kabu (modern day Gambia). Written in 2024 in Viljandi, Estonia after I heard the sounds of the lake ice melting, cracking and refreezing. The title is the name of this phenomenon in Estonian, which translates to 'the ice is singing'. This piece is my attempt to capture this sound and the feelings in invokes. Hey man that's awesome to hear! It entirely depends how deep you want to go with it...if you want to just learn the basic cycles then that's pretty quick, but there are deeper levels of improvisation and understanding. Just have a play of the accompaniment and see what you come up with! Look forward to seeing your progress!

nice one, Stuart. tricky start, but once you warmed to it, you nailed it. if i might make a suggestion on the mic'ing (which i nicked from Warren Huart) - point the mic at the body of the guitar just below the fretboard - that is apparently the sweet spot for the best resonance and clarity.
