    How CLOSE can you get to the planet? Can you have a REAL planetary landscape with real terrain dimensions or is just for "looks"?

      @@manuel.camelo sorry for the late reply, being completely honest, planets I have spent the less time using so could be wrong. If I understand the question correctly, I believe you can get somewhat realistic dimensions but I would say for the most part it's for looks. If you mean for zooming in, most of the detail gets lost, but you can still get some nice details for the distance. Seen some people replicating earth and what not. There are less nodes than normal landscapes but you still have access to a good couple which is nice. I may have misunderstood the question but hope that helps

      @@kiwivi21 Sorry for how implied the question; I've been looking for years for a software that is capable of achieving a similar result of what can be done in World Machine, but in a spherical quad mesh projection, in order to achieve the same potential comparable to Google Earth. I'd love to replicate planet Earth thanks to raster DEM from JAXA, or NASA SRTM 30m. or instead the planet Venus. I'm stuck with World Machine, and unfortunately Unreal Engine 5 still doesn't have a native way to create a planetary spherical landscape. Only with VOXEL PLUGIN 2.0. It's possible to achieve that.       @@manuel.camelo thank you, would definitely say you wouldn't be able to get too much detail (in comparison to those) but part of that also due to it still being new, hopefully with 1.0 release we will have the exact detail you are after. For now I would still consider it to be good but definitely has its limitations. Check out the free trial as you might be able to get a better feel for it 🔥

    Hi, I haven't touched Gaea for probably years, but I wanted to get back into it. I couldn't find any info on this, but in version 2, Erosion Studio isn't available anymore ? Maybe it's been said on their Discord, but for whatever reason, it refuses to let me in

    I can't seem to find out how to unlock the 'advanced' tab in the gaea options. using the most recent version 2.0.4.0

      Sorry for not responding, I don't think youtube notified me. With some quick looking around I believe they are in options under the workspace tab now at least for the visual things such as nesting and what not. If there are any settings in particular, feel free to respond and I can see if I can let you know where they are but with the constant changes the settings may not exist anymore/be in a completely different spot.

    I see a lot of videos mention the Arboreal Node, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Are there Nodes exclusive to the paid versions and is Arboreal part of it?

      @@LIGHTNING132YTG there should be an aboreal node in community version as well as there aren't any nodes you can't use for it. If you are using gaea 2 then it is called trees now, otherwise make sure you are on the latest build you can be of gaea 1 just in case. Hope this helps and you can find it

    Great video. Something you didn't touch on was render times. World Machine and Gaea being node based means that they are CPU bound for rendering the heightmaps and take FOREVER to output once you get into tiled worlds and ultra high resolutions. I was rendering a 64km2 (8x8 @ 1024) heightmap with World Machine for 14 hours and it was only half finished before I gave up. World Creator supposedly uses GPU rendering, so I'm going to try that.

      @@TorQueMoD yep, world creator and geogen both use GPUs for processing so are fairly quick, as you mentioned gaea (and world machine) are cpu bound and definitely take a good bit longer but gaea 2 does have some nodes that support the GPU so is a good increase in performance 👍hope world creator serves you well

      Oh damn! I'm an idiot. I was trying to export the heightmap at 8K per tile instead of 1K lol. Soon as I fixed that, WM exported it in 4 minutes. Sadly there's now a grid across my entire landscape so the tiling isn't seamless, so I'll likely still grab World Creator. lol

    Thank you for the detailed review. Im looking into deciding which tool to use to build a terrain for my game. Been enjoying Gaea 1, its been super fun and easy. Just a but disapointed on the stability of G2, i cant get any progress. They dont seem to sell G1 licence anymore, looks like were forced to G2. This made me consider GEOGEN. It felt familiar but having a hard block, my worlflow in Gaea is almost tiled based. If I want to create an isand and dvide that island into zones within different terrains, youll be stuck as there is notion of multi combine nodes and missing a mask node. Might try world creator next

      Hey can completely agree with g2 being unstable and wanting to use g1, I believe the team plans to add g1 download back onto the website but not sure when it will go up. This get.gaea.app/Release/Gaea-1.3.2.7.exe has been posted on the gaea website to work if you have a gaea 1 license(by the devs so its safe, feel free to pop into the discord in case you don't trust the link as downloading random links can be dodgy👍) Otherwise geogen is pretty good and has a free trial so would always say is worth at least checking out whether or not you end up using it. Best of luck and hope whatever you find in the end suits your workflow, hopefully gaea 2's instability is mostly gone by the end of the year

    I just bought gaea 2 (indie for now) and at the moment it is SUPER buggy. I spent a full week where I couldn't even open the options menu without it crashing immediately. (their support take a LONG time to get back to you if you have problems) IMO this software is not ready to be released to the paying public. you're basically paying to be a beta tester and when you run into problems their support is lacklustre to say the least. I really like node based workflows but for now it's back to world creator for me because I just can't trust this thing not to randomly crash

      @@kiwivi21 I do prefer the workflow of gaea compared to world creator and gaea seems to produce more beleivable realistic results than WC (especially in the texture workflow). I can see that it has huge potential for my needs but it's just not there yet in terms of stability. it would have been cool if they had kept a legacy version (1.3 or whatever) for people to download and use in the meantime because right now I feel like I'm stuck with software that just doesn't work as intended.

      @@chemicalBR0 completely agree, I believe they have plans to put gaea 1 back on the website at least till gaea 2 gets more stable but not sure when that's planned to happen. Definitely looking forward to gaeas increased stability though as that's really the only thing holding it back

    Just installed the Community version, honestly, the app is not in a release state, the app crashes a lot, on my computer I can't even go to the options, it is blazing fast, even just on my laptop(i7 12700H + 3070Ti), you click on any node, you connect it at 1K the results are instantaneous, the app need more work on stability and good documentation.

    i love the tool so far, i really wish there was some sort of blender bridge. The issue i find myself running into right now is, i make something in blender, import it to Liquigen and it's all great and perfect right? but then when i export my liquid simulation (As a mesh, saved as an ABC file) and bring it into blender i can't get the objects to align how they are in liquigen. i even tried going by the measurements in liquigen and trying the exact measurements in blender and it doesn't seem to line up properly?

      @@DimiArt ah really, that does sound annoying. Have you tried importing a couple of the objects into liquigen to use as a size normalizer? I believe liquigen on default is fairly large so would need to scale down emitter and stuff

      @@jayantbhatt007 thanks, yea I do think it was quite the switch but once you get used to it it's quite nice. I do like the improvements to the node search, makes adding nodes that bit faster

      @Mr.Mirage_YT honestly tricky question, going onto each website you can see what companies have used their software in the past if thats any help. Outside of that probably Gaea or Houdini, i believe a lot of companies just use houdini for these sorts of things from what I have seen but that is quite the massive leap up compared to really any of these. But yea take this response with a grain of salt as Im not currently in the industry so this is just off my observations. Ultimately they all have been used for games and movies (maybe less geogen as thats in alpha and less than a year old) which is not to say it wont be in the future 👍

      learn houdini, there is nothing to learn in gaea,world creator.both of them barely take 10-12 hour for basic understanding.

      Same honestly, really enjoying using it but at the same time theres a lot of nodes that are not working or cause crashes and that includes important ones like the normals node in g2. But oh well its still being tested and isnt fully out yet so we can only hope that at least the main stuff are working when the full release happens later this month. But Gaea 1 is still really awesome in its current state and plenty good to use so will definitely be enjoying it until gaea 2 is in a more usable state

    This is the exact topic I am researching this week, for my future game development in plan. I was about to grab World Creator Professional becasue of it's Unreal Bridge (one click landscape sync with Unreal) and it's quite easy to use layer-base workflow. For sure, there are more beginner tutorial videos from youtube that gave me a lot more confidence getting the software, as a terrian beginner. I was a bit struggle comparing between GeoGen and WorldCreator because building a spherical planet is one of my game development needs too. But I was just not so sure about GeoGen's capability in this alpha stage comparing to some other planet building solution like WorldScape and also Voxel Plugin Pro 2.0. Thanks for your detailed info and I might better have some indepth look of Geogen before making the purchase.

      @abitcrazytw im glad the video helped, feel free to watch some of my prior videos on geogen if you want an idea as well as being able to check out the trial. If you end up siding with world creator you always have that 14 day trial of geogen you could pump out some planets for you project with 👍. Hope your project goes well and whatever you choose serves you well. Also on a side note gaea 2 is also getting an unreal bridge so if that is a key thing and you can wait for the release of it (later this month) then that may work well

      ​@@kiwivi21 Thanks for your reply. I will definitely give GG a try but I am still considering getting the Suite package seems it's really a good deal with the EmberGen / LiquidGen. There is no GG Planet creation with UE5 export demo in youtube or even on internet. Some people asking around like readit but cannot find any further info. I think the only way to get to know better is try myself... maybe I can share a video sooner too if I've discover any technique worth sharing. I've viewed your video for planet creation, thanks! I am also consider Houdini this ground/jaw breaking tech will be added in my game dev workflow especially for indie developer like me:)

    I like GeoGen, especially since it has a native Linux build... 🙂 It has good potential I think. But one thing I miss in it is the Gaea satmap system, which makes it *very* easy to get good coloring. The color gradients of GeoGen are similar, but feels harder to use and get good results out of. Perhaps a good idea for a future GeoGen tutorial, how to color the terrain in a nice way? 😉

      @JoachimPileborg its great that geogen supports linux as that can be fairly rare, even saw it running on a steamdeck which was surprising. Completely agree about the satmaps, i really love the fuctionality of them and the fact there is something like 1000 gradients. It means you can get away with almost anything without outside eyedropping. Can allow for much quicker randomization for textures. Lastly thank you for the idea xD, would be something worth making a tutorial on. Might try working on and getting one out today 🔥

      I think once they get everything going and fix the bugs and crashes, it is better outside of some minor things

    Nice tutorial! I do have a few questions regarding this process. 1. I just wonder if this workaround can be used in Marmoset's texture project feature? I would like to texture my UDIM model inside Marmoset. 2. Also, on their official website there is a workflow breakdown article says something like separating head/body into two texture sets and then texture these sets one by one. But I have seen posts saying this workaround doesn't work with Subsurface Scattering.

      Hey those are some good questions, I cant say I 100% know the answer for either sorry but fairly sure you can use texture sets for texture projects (looking through the discord one of the devs also stated so as well). I believe this is used when choosing which material you want to use for your texture project. For your second question, im not certain about, I believe it might but cant guarantee sorry, might be able to try tomorrow if i get some time 👍 Sorry for the non certain answers, tldr first I believe should and second not certain about. Ultimately udims are a feature that is probably on the top of everyones list so hopefully something that will get implimented soon

      @@kiwivi21 Thank you for reply! I will follow the single UV tile workflow on my UDIM model with the workaround tweak, and see if that works or not. One problem I can imagine now is the transition between different parts (like transition between head and body). Wish I can get a good result lol.

    That's what the options menu looks like :D At the moment it still crashes for me. A little unstable in this current build. Some quite cool additions now I'm a bit more familiar with the new UI

      Ah the crashes can be quite painful. The new ui and overhaul paired with the speed of gaea 2 is quite awesome, cant wait for them to improve stability and add in the missing nodes

      @Native_Creation yea have been hearing a lot of people running into crashes. As mentioned in the video normal and clay renderer crash but would be interested in trying to find other definite crashes (definitely are a lot of random ones as well)
