sturisoma aureum (marble sturisoma whiptail) fry

Looks like the sturisoma aureum managed to sneak their first spawn by me. It's pretty much a given that baby corys are the cutest baby catfish. But man, baby whiptails are a very close second...
Bringing some aphanius mento back in from the greenhouse
Просмотров 101Месяц назад
I normally colony breed aphanius mento in 40 breeders in the greenhouse and just let them do their thing. But I'm going to see if I can start producing some real numbers from them, so I need to do it in a bit more controlled fashion. I'm setting up a group of them to put in a 50 lowboy with spawning mops that I can pull eggs from to get better survival rates
biotodoma wavrini and moenkhausia costae

The wavrini are looking amazing when they decide to show off. Sorry for the glare, the room is just too bright to film easily on the fly.

Time to move some sipaliwini to a larger tank. Love the really high dorsal fin on these guys.
late summer spawning in full swing in cory land
Просмотров 107Месяц назад
A few of the uncommon cory species decided to spawn in the last 24 hours. Late summer storms can really get them going. This go round includes boesemani, concolor, c134, cw163 and reynoldsi.

How does substrate color affect corys - hephaestus
Просмотров 125Месяц назад
Time for another installment of substrate color comparisons using pool filter sand, a tan colored caribsea sand and black diamond sand. Same tank and same group of osteogaster hephaestus (formerly corydoras hephaestus). Sand was changed out and videos were recorded at least 5 days later to allow them to settle in.
stiphodon aureofuscus freshwater goby

Stiphodon aureofuscus are pretty hilarious. Especially considering they are just a bit over 1" in size.
Hoplisoma cw163 (formerly corydoras cw163) spawn

A pretty long video of part of a spawning session for cw163. Early on, you can see the classic 'T' position in action right up front in the tank.

How does substrate color affect corys - cw111

Here is a comparison of pool filter sand, a tan colored caribsea sand and black diamond sand. Same tank and same group of hoplisoma cw111 (formerly corydoras cw111). Sand was changed out and videos were recorded at least 5 days later to allow them to settle in.

Thanks for sharing.
Wish they would just leave the names alone.
That's so cool, thanks for sharing.
Sweet congrats Mitchell 😊
Wish theese were easier to find, been looking for any type of characodon in sweden for 2 years 😂
Congratulations!
Those are beautiful fish. I'd like to get one of them.
Beautiful 👍👍👍
You have some of the coolest fish. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome fish 👍👍👍
Beautiful fish and tank. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, how do I buy one or two please?
Thanks for the great videos, where can i buy the fry containers you are using please?
Those ones I got from you at the Chattanooga swap are doing great! Cant wait until they start producing.
What kind of and where did you get your O2 system, and how much was it please?
looks like they get darker as the substrate darkens huh. I heard they get a little darker as they age also
I keep bluetail goodeids. Are you interested in selling or trading ? I would love a pair from you
Have you read that these are the cousins to goodeids ? Do you see the similarities?
I still want some of these. I’m in New York. Hope that’s not too far
My pandas had babies, from 4 to 24 . Like seeing little guys
Used to have a nice colony of these till my former landlord miswired the thermostat. There fish like it way cool
Cool comparison
Sometimes the color on the computer does not reflect true life, but I think they looked best on the natural tan sand. Ether way I could definitely see a difference. Thanks for sharing.
For sure, it also doesn't help the case that the lighting in my fishroom is not at all great for taking pictures/videos. But the differences between the colors still shows through well which is what I am shooting for showing people. And yeah, I also like the tan color the most.
Do you sell these? I would love to have a few of them. They look like what i've been looking for.
Nice! Thanks for sharing.
Very cool fish 👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing. Do you collect the oak leaves yourself?
Yes. Since I know for sure there are no pesticides sprayed in particular areas around my house, they are safe for me to collect. I usually collect 3-4 big garbage bags full each fall and use them throughout the year.
👍🏻👍🏻
Perhaps let the female be in there for herself a few days before putting in the male, if possible ?? Awesome fish , Thanks for sharing :D :D
That's what I have been doing. This is their 3rd time being together with about a week break between. He just started right in from the get go. This is about 34 seconds after him going into the tank, which is about how long it took me to grab a camera and start recording. Funny thing is, this time he has calmed down much more than previous times after being in the tank with her for a day so maybe I can actually keep them together someday in the future...
@@mbroome oh, ok.. I knew they are a High-Energy fish so then probably they have got only one gear so to speak.. My friend kept several Aphanius and those were similar..He kept a pair sometimes, then in a tank almost full of Moss , or at least 75% full of it.. (he did weekly waterchanges, we have soft water here btw, pH 8.3, kH 4 ) Perhaps the only way is to get some more of them.. like 10-15 or so, but for such rare fish, that is often not possible.. and it may not help anyway???
Hope you get lots of fry! Thanks for sharing.
That is a sweet native fish 😊
Those are beautiful darters. Thanks for sharing!
The word “abrasive” would scare me.
Love it. I would love to be able to make one of these but don't think I could source the parts. Pity they aren't for sale.
I have tried 4 different Carob Sea sands. I like them, but man that black diamond makes them pop. Do you think they come out more with BD ? Is'nt the BD to sharp ? Thanks a million for sharing.
I actually don't keep corys on black sand. This was really a test to show how much the color actually changes their look. If I could find a consistent supply of super cheap pool filter sand that was just a little bit more tan, I would go that way. The caribsea sands I have tried just have not been worth it to me vs their cost so I still stick with the plain pool filter sand. I'm also running the same test with hephaestus and I think they will be more obvious than the cw111.
you forgot neon colored sand 😛
Oh, I might be able to find a random single blue or pink piece of gravel!
Looking great Mitchell thanks for sharing 😊
I'm color blind but honestly they looked great on all 3 to me. I did like them more on the white and black and not as much on the tan but over all were great but it's probably because of the fish 😊. Thanks for sharing
I'm on team pool filter sand myself. They are going back to it tomorrow when I get some time.
👍👍👍
Thanks, this was really good. I managed to get maybe 6 albino cory eggs before the fish ate them this weekend, and I was not set up for it! The visuals with this are very helpful.
Fantastic fish 👍👍👍
Cool pupfish, thanks for sharing!
Great tip with the pvc. I found the 60% works really well. How does the greenhouse work in your winter? Can you grow plants all year long?
I can grow some plants through winter. With just passive heating, it doesn't really get below the mid/low 40s throughout the winter except for a very rare really cold snap for maybe a few days of the season. Because of that, I'm also able to keep things like aphanius mento, rhadinocentrus ornatus and a few different natives out there all year round.
@@mbroome Thats amazing.
Is the bag with shell to increase Calcium? Do you use peat moss filter boxes to lower ph for breeding?
Yeah, it's crushed coral to leach out calcium into the tank. By water is naturally lower ph, soft and very little tds so I have to add things back for live bearers like goodeids.
Mitchell as always cool fish, cool video, and you are a professional.
Sell me 1 plz
Another fish I need to add to my collection 👍👍👍
Looking great sir
can you stand on it or do back flips off it into the tank? if yes, i'll take 7.
Lol. Why would you want to hang something from your glass tank that could cause it to crack or burst. No everyone is smart enough to know that there is a limit that the side weight on the glass.
