Triple Triad Science
Additional notes: 1) take everything here with a grain of salt 2) basically all cards given the right support can be viable this doesn't mean only use the best cards 3) this was constructed mostly with an eye to randoms so may not translate to what goes best in hands 4) forgot to mention the worst cards, the lowest rated cards are verts with 9 as the highest number, things like 9685.
If you want to compare this list with my most OP card list, it thinks I vastly underrate A88s (especially the spear versions) and notes that A973s are substantially better than other A97 types. Otherwise it's generally in agreement, though I forgot to check A666 type with it.

I dont see whats so bad about Nf5. Stockfish 17 even prefers Nf5 after 9. c4. It also scores slightly better in the lichess database and leads to more decisive games in the masters database. The knight can come to d4 and then you can push f5 plus you have the extra option of going g6 and Bg7. Sure you dont always get the kingside attack but if your opponent plays with h4 against the ng6 line its also not so simple.
Reasonable response, I find playing the positions far more unpleasant after ...Nf5, but if you like those positions go for them! h4 is indeed a problem against lots of openings with ...Ng6. There are lots of positions where SF prefers a move, and it's right, with absolute best play. But the problems created by a different move are much easier for humans to solve. Your statistical data point is a strong case against this being true here, but I still kind of think it's happening here. A statistical point in favor of ...Ng6 is it being the choice of all top players here aside Fedoseev. If ...Nf5 looks pleasant or better to you, than that's completely fair, you're certainly not wrong.
FINALLY! Ever since 1999 I could never understand how the same plus combo feature works until now. Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi, CC GoC here! Full disclosure regarding the hand that was able to beat CC Ace's unbeateable hand. I don't remember the cards I used, but I remember it was basically an "anti-hand". It was made with one purpose only, to beat CC Ace's hand. I do remember using a low level card for several strategic purposes, but can't remember which one. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the video!
Awesome to hear from you! Anti-hand rather than a hand intended to function on its own definitely makes sense in the scenario. Would be fun if we could ever figure out some of the past hands (I assume this is in the era of purely FF8 cards? Hard for me to keep track)
@@jakeraskerinoIf Ace can remember his hand, and the rules, I could probably recreate the hand haha. Yes, it was only FF8 cards.
Hello! CC Micke here 👋 What an awesome video! I’ve watched parts of it and can’t wait to see the rest. The Triple Triad era holds a very special place in my life even though it’s over 20 years ago now. Watching this felt really nostalgic. Unfortunately, I don’t think I have much saved from those days, but I’ll check and see if i can find anything. I also shared this with CC GoC 👍
That's awesome, so glad to hear from people! Would love to see anything if you have it or hear any stories you have to tell! Tried my best to capture as much of the era as I could.
I just started learning the game and Zerg a little while ago. I’m just a little further than you. Been practicing scouting while building. One main thing that makes a huge difference is using camera hotkeys. Set each base as a location and you switch through them to inject.
Oh yeah I keep forgetting I need to get used to base camera hotkeys, good call!
looks like a fun game.
You seem to be very focused on something called Turdz in the big 4 of TTAC. But what is that? Googling TTAC gets something like Tekken or something. But you can't be doing a real video about Tekken, right? Is Turdz a Tekken player? Is this whole video about numbers of a person named after poop winning button mashing games? Is there a reason that your mic is barely audible, in all of your videos?
To answer questions in reverse order: I have no idea how to adjust volume because I am incompetent at this. Turdz indeed has a terrible name, no one's happy about it. TTAC is the triple triad championship, niche game, difficult to google.

maybe you could change the title to reflect the race you are covering. thanks!
Will do.
and the hydralisk upgrades
don't forget to get the roach speed upgrade from the roach warren
Helpful, thanks.
I really liked your video, you're good at this,.
Ah thanks! Gonna try and develop this as a series where I attempt to figure out how to be better at this!
And you can use a liberator to harass
Have you tried a 2 1 1 2 base all in where you get 2 barracks and research stim plus combat shields plus medivacs from the starport.
I have tried a 3-1-1 bio tank timing and a 3 base marine medivac build order, but not a 2-1-1. Would this be similar to the stuff suggested by terrancraft? If you're getting both stim/CS are you going tech labs at both rax or going one after another at one of them? I'm bad at harass stuff, gotta work on that.
Do you have any more builds with ptoss or zerg
I may do a video on these but: with Zerg I've been working on a quick roach maxout as a similar kind of training: 13 overlord 16 hatch 18 pool 17 gas is kind of specific but the basic idea is get 3 bases (and 3 queens for injects! maybe an extra to spread creep), saturate at least 4 gas (needed to pay for roaches), get spawning pool + roach warren and start pumping out roaches. Optimally you can max around 7:30 but any time before 10:00 is pretty good! Ideally you can also get an evo chamber and attack+1 for the roaches there. If you wanted to play this ranked then a good followup would be research Lair at the main base, drop a hydra den and support the roaches with hydralisks (to be able to hit air). Eventually I plan to work on some more focused builds but I think this is good practice. With Protoss I have almost no experience but my understanding is a decent straight forward way to play is stalker/colossi. Goal is something like 2 bases, 2 early gas and 2 early gates (then around 40-50 supply get 2 more gates and 2 more gas), a cybernetics core so the gates can make stalkers, a robotics facility and robotics bay to unlock colossi and then colossi production. Eventually get a third as colossus production starts. I can't find any maxout drills comparable to marines for terran or roaches for zerg but maybe a stalker version is plausible. Sorry if these are bad descriptions, I'm no expert here!
whats this called where to download
It's called Triple Triad and we play it at ttadvance.net, and it can also be played in the video game final fantasy 8.
Wow man your are the best teacher… please continue making chess videos
Thanks for the comments! I may do someday. Probably not soon though, I teach chess and it's hard to have the energy to record chess videos as well.
Why did you stopped making chess videos… I like your contents are very original and organic …
Might take me a couple of days to watch, but damnit I’ll watch it!
This was well explained and helped a lot, thanks!
I haven’t seen the video yet but I’ll give a like just for the courage of attempting such a task ❤
Thx for the explanation. I thought rules overwrite others and are in effect exclusively. I was so confused when i tried to set up sames, but simply got taken by higher values. I thought maybe its the wall, but i now understand, that "same wall" is another different rule... confusing explanation in game.
Very confusing! Yeah, it's not at all obvious that each rule is an additional method of capture rather than a replacement of how to capture. And rule based captures set off comboing which overpowering doesn't, all unclear!
In defense of Rafa and Malak, I actually find their jobs interesting. Although their damage output is random, as you mentioned there is ways to mitigate that randomness by targeting squares with big height differences, and it feels rewarding to pull off a multi-hit cast. I admit that they're far from the greatest characters in terms of story, and it would have been nice if they could have gotten an introduction in an earlier chapter. I feel like even just one battle or scene in Chapter 1 could have given them so much room to grow as characters. But I still like Rafa and Malak, and I've used them in a couple of playthroughs and enjoyed doing so.
Yeah that's fair, they're definitely an interesting gameplay class but obviously this playthrough can't really explore that (and it'd be more fun to have access to the class earlier).
I saw Golagros in the thumbnail, and I knew I had to watch. I was not disappointed. 😉
Just wow how effective that reply in 5 to the starter in 4 was. Such a killer move, definitely would not feel too bad losing to such move, given also the odds after it to back it up.
He wrecked me with style!
Just wanted to say man, I'm new to your channel. I've been playing FF8 the past 3 days or so while sick, and while looking up "how to abolish Plus and Same rule" I found your channel, and I have been absolutely amazed at the depth of Triple Triad as a whole. I understood playing defensively, or as you'll call it "Safety" with high number cards to defend from being taken from opponent weaker cards. I knew literally the basics of the basics, and after watching your "Plus and Same" video...again I'm blown away. I find myself now attempting to use similar level cards against the FF8 computer AI to see if I can win with weaker cards. I've been watching your videos non stop and attempting to realize "securing" cards rather than capturing, keeping stronger cards for later, calculating Plus strategies...it's been incredibly fun! Awesome channel man. Would LOVE to see a general series of how players can become better at Triple Triad on a gradient/progressive scale!!!
Oh man, what a delightful comment to read! The jump from wanting to capture to wanting to secure is a huge level up that feels so rewarding. Sounds like you've got a really good handle on valuing securing and maintaining future strength rather than looking to use powerful cards immediately. It's a wonderfully deep game! I have a few playlists that try to build up from the basics (Triple Triad Academy, Triple Triad Intermediate Academy, Triple Triad Advanced Academy) that might be in the direction you're looking for? They're not super rigorous, but I hope you find them interesting! It's the closest I've come to progress in that direction. Also I'm always somewhat hesitate to recommend it because almost everyone there has been playing competitively for 10-20 years, but ttadvance.ca lets you play against the best players in the world, though sadly not near as active as it used to be. The discord is friendly and welcoming. I've built a series of open playing bots that sometimes run there that I think offer a good leveling up curve, named after card club from ff8.
This game sparks my interest in a number of "oddball" ways. Appreciate the showcase, though will keep focusing on some of the explanations low, since am likely wanting to do some discovering with it myself.
Yeah, it's a really fun game to explore for yourself, that's a good approach! The story is very interesting to experience as well in a way I didn't really present here.
Inscryption is a great game! Fun to see you do a challenge run.
Mustadio was one of my favorite characters when I first played FFT. It was so unusual to see a gun in a medieval setting, and the long range and perfect accuracy felt so powerful. Guns do fall off later, but if you can get one of the elemental guns, they have a huge spike in power in the later sections of the game.
I appreciate the reference to the Golagros hand! I remember when I first made the hand, the picture of the card was Golagros's face portrait as opposed to his current card which uses his sprite animation, so seeing his face portrait filled me with nostalgia (even though he's an incredibly minor character in the game, haha)
You singlehandedly made Golagros a legend (because uh, golagros himself certainly didn't do it). I miss your hand.
Very helpful, ty
It's been a pleasure to follow your Let's Play of FF7! 😁 Bizarro Sephiroth is definitely one of the stranger boss battles in the series. It can be fought with one, two, or even three parties depending on whether certain conditions are met or not. In your case, you defeated Jenova so fast (several turns before she could get off Ultima) that you fulfilled the condition for a one-party fight with Bizarro Sephiroth.
Ah, I had no idea, clearly! Tifa's too strong for poor Jenova. FF7 has such weird stuff going in random gameplay ways, it's so peculiar.
It's crazy how strong Emerald Weapon is. I always felt like FF7's superbosses were the scariest, but I think that might be due to the fact that they can be encountered far sooner in the game than most other superbosses in the series. That, and FF7 was my first game, so probably 8 year old me got traumatized by getting a Game Over after running into Emerald Weapon for the first time, lol
I feel like people like to call superbosses easy and you're like how did you beat it and they go oh I had 6 kotr's linked with a bazillion other things, so easy. And... yeah? As a kid I concluded aire tam storm was unbeatable and gave up.
I won't even fight CARRY ARMOR Even at LV 60 WITH 9999 HP 999 MP UNLESS you use Knights of the round on IT so I stilled used it HP absorb and Mime it SOLO until Emerald dies from it. On the PS4 remaster even with INFINITE HP for that cheat used I still won't fight Carry armor at lv 60 with 9999 HP 9999 HP 999 MP unless you KoTR it. I never really mastered KoTR even once even with Cloud having a 3x AP rate weapon SOLOING Emerald/Ruby weapon both with KoTR set to it you still won't have it mastered once KoTR kills both of them on disc 2 with it.
If I remember this game correctly, my first move in 7 was a bit of a (last minute) panic move. ;(
I used the exact same hand from the OPEN timeout game right before this game. Also told Addy at the beginning of this match that I used the same cards as before, but luckily for me he said, his memory isn't the best. ;p (I know, sounds very very stupid, but I was very agitated in these games and made some stupid choices)
Oof, that's a rough situation to be in, however it came about.
Darn, my guess of Proud Clod as being the first fight that doesn't end in 60 seconds was off. I forgot about Diamond Weapon's initial physical damage immunity!
Still good guesses! I forgot about this fight too.
Canada ruining my night AGAIN.
it's an unending plague
Really nice Materia setup on Tifa. What a beast!
It's fun to have the game time for you how long it takes to kill things. Any bets on the first enemy/boss to survive the full 60 seconds?
@@jakeraskerino Probably Proud Clod? 60,000 health is a lot, and I think it had pretty high defense, too. If not it, then likely Hojo, since he has 3 forms, which will likely eat up a lot of time.
@@ThyPiggyman Excellent guesses!
The three types / categories was interesting ponderings. I think I often leaned towards cool and that still is often the case, though the types of cool need to be much more specific these days. Oddly I found Cid one of the coolest characters in FF7 when I was younger and still do, with dragoon type fighting and appearances too (was very often in my team), also certain bittersweet depth about him adds to the coolness/fascination, his theme song that enhances his appeal from the get-go and the melancholy induced pure and even noble intentions behind it all eventually, bitterness that I can appreciate on a personal level, find it relatable, backstory that stings.. The swearing and sometimes awful behavior doesn't seem to bother for the most part, because it is so believable and also has therapeutic incredients to me personally? Not sure, this analyzing getting out of hand now.. But I definitely value "that's deep", especially throughout the years more and more, it is definitely now the top category. It revolves around the person's history and actions but in many cases the motivations take the center stage and I get a big kick out of ultimate revenge stories / getting over big disadvantages / big realizations / ultimate payback / bitterness that still fights for what is good and right setups, where things are taken so far that the motivation truly speaks to me. Barret seems a huge deal more appealing now too, most definitely, as another example of this in FF7. Going to have him in my party on the next playthrough all the way, very likely.
..have to add the fact how Cid is being used by Shinra, his certain goodness of heart and loyalty taken advantage of, how it turns to abusive levels, with the Highwind, Space program (empty dressed up promises, promises by Palmer and all related to that), then the Tiny bronco, it is just assumed by the big corp that exploitation to whatever degree is ok, his devotion to a dream and amazing career and loyalty too getting flushed, reason being business as usual, whatever the head of the corp deems that the focus should be, and then there are all the added things that Shinra represents in our world too. Barret really strongly mixed in that in his own ways. But yeah, that "exploited loyalty/devotion/goodness of heart really hits hard more than maybe ever about Cid, somewhat quite personally too. This really got me thinking now, ha!
Yeah, I think I probably didn't cover enough how what's cool is going to vary person to person (as well as what's cool for you changing over time). I think the single type of that's deep character that most consistently appeals to me is a person trying to do better; who has done wrong, and is deeply imperfect now, but is trying to be better than they were. Cloud's not the archetype of that mold, but certainly fits it. I do quite like Cid, I'll end up being pretty positive about him later in the playthrough, though more because he amuses me than because I find him cool? Dragoons always have seemed cool for me though, I was super into Kain during ff4 who in retrospect is... really boring? But cool! Barret's great.
I hear your points on some of the newer Final Fantasy games, feel like a lot of things went downhill after FFX too, though on some aspects just went to the wrong directions, some I have turned around on, some just not cared to even go for, some I have really tried to like and so on. Some have really good aspects about them. The way they are treating FF7 with all of the branching projects is going over the board most totally, especially the new gacha game or version of it, Ever Crisis. I did play Remake and it was bittersweet in a way, the parts it nailed were some of the best stuff I have ever experienced in a video game, absolutely amazing way to experience things that have fondness through the original but some of it is taking it to extremely risky directions, including all of the compilation/ other materials that have followed FF7 original and so on. Would still say I loved the best parts so much that it was worth playing, ending and other changes can be jarring though, depending on how you look at it. I ca see some point to some of the changes but am really wary of it... Rebirth is going to be filled up to the brim with all kinds of open world style side activities (such as a new card game) and that kind of fits FF7 but on the other hand, keeping things together is a huge challenge. Especially with the plot changes and all. But a lot comes down to perspective, how to look the original as a complete whole and how one sees all of the additional things, do they give value or make many things less valuable? Quality over quantity is a good one liner that can come to mind. It is clear SE is investing a huge deal on the upcoming Rebirth, shall be seen what kind of financial success it is, since all seem to be valued in terms of finances these days, heh.
Oof, I hadn't even heard of Ever Crisis. I think, for me, I'd have trouble with parts they do well especially if they followed parts they didn't do well? I'm going to make a weird analogy that I possibly already made in the video, I don't remember, but hopefully I didn't: There's a calvin and hobbes short story fanfiction thing that I sometimes see posted on my social media in which calvin has grown up, is married to susie, and is giving hobbes to his child. I hate it so much; calvin giving away hobbes is the kind of bittersweet growing up thing that someone would imagine but to me completely shits on everything in calvin and hobbes, there's a reason watterson never had calvin grow up, and calvin never would give up hobbes, and I think any person that imagines he would, that chooses to create a world where he would, is someone I abhor and wish terrible curses upon. There's other reasons I hate it, the sins are not singular, but that's a good emblematic example. I love C&H and it makes me genuinely angry. At the same time, because I love C&H when this stupid story reaches for emotion I can't help but feel emotion about these characters and this stupid story doesn't deserve it. So not only is it shitting on something I care about, but I am not not able to restrain myself from caring, and that's just completely unacceptable. I worry ff7 remake will be exactly this combo for me; trashing things I care about, and then just compelling enough to make me angry at myself for still caring. I have trouble getting to the point of being happy that for you and others there are moments it does well that feel wonderful to see, but I am happy for you there.
Interesting pondering on rpg systems and how weapons or equipment in general can sometimes offer different playstyles for builds and overall depth to the system. In action rpgs a very common thing / term is "build-enabling". Wish there were more such items in FF7, even though materia system itself is a lot about build-enabling and it also adds some variations to weapons in FF7, some having the double or triple growth and some maybe a lot stronger but with much less room for materia (or none such as Nail Bat) and so on. Very dull equpment system is one that only prioritizes pure attack power as valid stat and never nothing else, same for defensive equipments that only effectively work around defense stat.
My favourite of the three is team B. Oracle, Samurai, Dancer, and even Time Mage all bring a fun variety of abilities that aren't your boring, standard big damage options. And I mean, who can resist the allure of a Dancing Knight? 💃🤺
I am glad you saw this, team B is big leader in the voting, go dancing knight go!
God I hate this game! Tactics has its moments, and the storytelling is great. But this Goddamn game hits you like a Truck if you Don’t have the Right Skills and aren’t Leveled up before specific Battles and Missions! Being that Said Battles and Missions Soft Lock the Hell Outta your Progress! And Good God do I hate this F*cking game! But Yeah, you really have to have a great pre-Established plan before going through this game. And it’s great to see your Spreadsheet and hear your planning. Cause it’s very interesting, same idea also applies for FFT Psp version. But yeah, FFT really put me off of Strategy Tactical Rpg games due to how frustrating they can be if you don’t have a solid idea of what your dipping your toes in.
@@danielramsey6141 Legit! I love FFT but I do hear what you're saying; the difficulty spikes and requirement that you figure out poorly explained (if at all) systems and menus are a poor combination, not even considering that you can lock yourself into fights with no way to go level. And it sucks that put you off strategy rpgs in general! I think it does a really good job of in fact letting you succeed with a variety of tools, but... they're so hidden by the horrible menu experience of it that's only going to matter once you've already spent a lot of time with it. For me that makes it end up being a really deep srpg experience.
Random comments: Counter attack is fun. I really like almost all kinds of counter mechanics in an rpg, could it be that I am a counter junkie? A realization just hit.. FF7 has a fun setups to be had with it. The upcoming temple of the ancients most definitely one of the major locations plot-wise and in terms of iconic places, such amount of things are set in motion and the weight of the escalation(s) is massive.
Counter attack IS fun! And it's neat that it can be combined with cover to get more counters.
And the fact that you can stack counter attacks with multiple counter attack materias (up to 8 times ! ), don't actually remember even hearing about it too well, though likely have.. But am going to do it at least to some degree in my next playthrough, where I put certain restrictions to what I can utilize, such as not doing chocobo breeding which makes some really op materias unusable, not using enemy skill materia and not using lvl4 limit breaks. Psyched about my plans building around that and on those restrictions.. been a while since I completed FF7. But yes, super awesome counter attacking build for a character around that in the plans.. takes kind of a lot of grinding but don't mind, at least yet.
@@user-mi2mq6gh4z Weirdly this playthrough does some of that sort of by accident; no chocobo breeding, no level 4 limits. Definitely do use enemy skill though. I think thoughtful restrictions are good; forces us away from crutches. Also I completely forgot you could stack counter attacks! I remember buying a turbo firing controller and putting a rubber band over circle and down, finding a part of the world map where holding down would run back and forth along an edge and leaving it over knight to beat enemies and grind materia level.
Good ponderings of Barret, and how the comparison to Dyne shapes up his identity too. Also liked the bits on overall identity, meaning and aspirations, what makes and shapes our identity. Am too much into such ponderings myself at times, which can also have weird effects on certain views and values.
Losing steam on a game, can relate to that, 100%. Sometimes a recap of cutscenes and story can boost up the enthusiam but sometimes starting over feels like the only option, and that in turn can feel like too much of a chore. Over abundance of choises can make it harder too, and lack of proper time. Proper time to play and indulge in escapism. FF7 is quite safe bet to avoid losing steam, am getting more and more into starting it over too, going to play it in somewhat different way, fun to think on that, might get ideas from this playthrough too.
Gameplaywise the episode coming out in 5 days (part 36) is my favorite and I hope inspiring to lots of people in their next playthroughs.
@@jakeraskerino Will definitely be getting to it, am still roughly aiming to go through in order though
At 20:21 would 6847 in 4 be the right play? It gets the plus like Ifrit would without being susceptible to a plus in 1 from 3453, making it 4-6 and they would have to commit the 9484 in 4 to make it 5-5, which allows us to then capture Irvine with either 8448 or Ifrit, making it 6-4, and then whatever they do from there, we would be able to recapture with strong left-facing numbers?
First instinct without calculating: in these setups (which I call a J cause it vaguely looks J shaped) we usually don't want to play combos in 4 because if they can take in 1 when 1 and 4 are the only cards that are hard to interact with, and our opponent has locked in both! On the other hand they can't take 7 and we can lock in 2 next turn so let's take a deeper look: We play 6847 in 4 going up 6-4, I agree they need to reply 9484 in 1 making it 5-5. We now go in 3 locking in 2 and going up 6-4. They lead to the same result but I'd lean towards 8448 in 3 here just so the opponents 3453 doesn't have something to do; it could take Ifrit. After 8448 in 3 they can play 8528 in 6 double capturing and making it 6-4 them. After that we can safely single capture for a tie but can't win. So I think this leads to a tie but it's a good idea. Most ideas lead to ties with perfect play, and it's our job to find the moves that apply the most pressure. ...and it's clearly better than what I did! After my awful move in 9 a bit later if they'd played 8528 in 8 I'd have lost! Silly me.
Amazing! Thank you so much@@jakeraskerino this is so in depth. I think I saw formation tutorials coming up in the future, they look really useful! I had another question, how do you compute possible pluses and sames so quickly? I've been pausing the videos at each game/challenge to try it for myself and when I resume it you have the answer in like nanoseconds lol, that's seriously impressive. Is there any deliberate practice that can improve this? Thanks again for putting out these videos, they're so helpful for me as someone fascinated by the game. Needs way more views!
@@Snowcloak_ Thank you so much! Really nice to hear this is useful. It's a wonderful game. Thinking in terms of gaps helps me, I see a 7 and 5 I know those are 2 apart so I look for things 2 apart in my hand. But mostly it's experience? I've played thousands of games on ttadvance.net and honed the skill, I don't think there's a shortcut? Pausing the video and figuring it out is very good practice, it will speed up as time goes on! ttadvance is where the highest level triple triad is being played and I love it but it can be hard to recommend because virtually all the players left have been playing for 15+ years and it can be incredibly challenging to get into. It is a good and welcoming community though, with a discord.
The silly and whacky parts add to the charm of FF7, mostly at least. Some are detrimental at least to some audiences but not being afraid to have bold themes and silly whacky stuff is also part of the charm. Heidegger was quite central in this portion here, some nods to the thoughts of the philosopher of the same name can be theorized from the overall themes of FF7 (as can be said from the works of Miyazaki's studio Ghibli movies), which I have kind of recently realized but won't go there.
I haven't read any Heidegger since a college class on nihilism and I uh, don't remember his portion, so can't contribute here.
Also glad you're making your way through the playthrough!
The connection of Heidegger can be seen to revolve around a threat of technology, how overly utilized and valued technology can warp our view of truth/reality and kind of disconnect it from "pure perceiving" of certain truths and sensations or from more harmonious connection with our environment, as everything is turned into resources to be counted and utilized and that takes the main stage of our evaluation, maybe reducing humans themselves as mere resources in a number of ways, something to that idea. He was also kind of overly nostalgic or into some older technology from what I have understood, which also can be seen as connecting to world of FF7 if we compare it to at least some parts of our modern technology. But enough of that rabbit hole ! ^^`
About Yuffie, never been super into her overall mainly due to her characteristics but I find her later multistrike limit breaks quite fun, and I guess the strong japanese culture vibes through her background is a plus in my book. The materia system overall does indeed offer interesting, meaningful choises, you can even go for very specific and odd "character build" ideas and also be very situational if you feel like it. Am planning to play the original FF7 before Rebirth if I have time, not sure if I do, but would be fun to try and go for some really whacky materia combination builds that I have not tried, just for fun. And the depth to which the materia system can go is amazing, still stands the test of time as a revolutionary rpg mechanic.
I've almost released up to the point of the playthrough when my tifa build can be unveiled! I wish there was a little bit more customization possible, not quite enough different ways to go, especially early, but it's a very good system. Maybe my favorite out of battle ff combat system? Will have to ponder that.
The stories we tell ourselves.. Yes, good points on that. A lot of our experiences are born out of the stories that happen to surround us, intersubjective field, it 100% affects a lot of our responses and actions that in truth are often reactionary and imitative. In rough situations and realizations there certainly is the tendency to tell a story to oneself that reinforces justification for one's actions and gravitate, devote one's identitly on that grasping. Certainly adds believeability to storytelling.
It's such a good storytelling device; a way to give somewhat false histories that don't rely on amnesia but instead tells us both the character's history AND things about the character in the way they justify/deceive/tell themselves things.
