How to Wheel Throw, Step 7- Undercutting the Foot
Просмотров 176Год назад
A well made pot or bowl will have a bit of lift off the table. It should not look like it's growing out of the table. Here I demonstrate a quick and easy way to add an undercut foot to your piece. Professional potters will "trim" their work after it dries a bit. I'll cover that in a later video.

How to Wheel Throw, Step 2- Setting Up Your Wheel
Просмотров 106Год назад
Your body position makes a big difference when you are wheel throwing. Setting yourself up properly, sets you up for success. You aren't actually pushing the clay around as much as you are not letting the clay move you. It shouldn't feel like a work out to wheel throw. I'll show you have to set yourself up to make throwing easier in this video.
How to Wheel Throw, Step 1- Wedging the Clay

Aw, miss y'all in class! I remember back when I got to see students in person. I got to know you. See how funny you are. What a rat you are! Those were the days.... (wistful sigh).
@@RosenArt It's seriously very sad that some kids are missing out on the art department, not sure if things have changed with new construction but that basement will always mean the world to me!
@@CaptainSausageVideos Aw, you absolutely made my day, maybe my month. Thanks for sharing that!
Thank you for this tutorial! I was wondering if it would be too late to add glasses to my drawing since I originally wasn't going to draw them but I think I've changed my mind
So glad this was helpful! Yep, you can. Happy drawing!

Yuse ma Tooouuoools!
In the reference photo. The eye was blurred. How can I make that blurr effect after putting the glasses
Hi there, I didn't even realize that the eye was blurred! Good eye! (Sorry for the pun.) If you use the side of your pencil and hold it from further out on the pencil, you get a softer mark. This would make it easier to be less specific with your line and create a more blurred look. Hope that helps!

Interesting, I'll be more conscious of my color wheel now!
It does help. Thanks for watching!
thank you thank you !!
I have a question please, dont you blend ? and also I know the color theory and work with it in colored pencils but when I try it with oil pastels a creepy brown color appears :l
I only blend by allowing the oil pastels to blend as the color builds. I like to work dark colors to light colors because I think the lighter colors blend the best. I find that if I blend with my finger of another 'blender' then you quickly get to a point where you are actually removing color instead of adding it. I like to see the movement in the marks too, rather than making the surface smooth. If I accidentally get a yucky brown I use the rounded end of a paper clip to scrape off the oil pastel and then try again. It doesn't take it all off but it does remove almost all of it so I can start over essentially. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Great video, very helpful, but it would be even better if you could bring the camera in closer so we can see the actual technique in closer detail. How do you do make fine lines like lashes and the fine pieces of hair? The oil pastels seems to thick to get fine lines. Also, when will we see how you finished it. Will there be a part 3? Also, do you have to spray with a fixative when finished?
Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it. You're right, fine lines and details are hard. I leave some things out when I use oil pastels because of that (like eye lashes) or I use an x-acto knife to create an edge or a point on the oil pastel so I can get a more precise line. You don't have to spray oil pastels (only soft/ chalk pastels- and an aerosol hairspray will work for that too). I do let them sit out a bit to dry/ harden or put a piece of newsprint over them if I stack them with other artworks because they oil may bleed out a bit until it dries. I will look for the finished piece and try to post a photo. I did this awhile ago.
Which oil pastels are you using apart from the Expressionists?
I also used Sakura Junior Oil Pastels, box of 50. I like having more colors to play with and I like that they are small so it's easier to get smaller details with them. They seem to be a very similar consistency as the Expressionists so they blend well together. (You can also use an x-acto knife to make a point if you want even smaller details too.) Thanks for watching! Please feel free to subscribe. I'll be uploading a colored pencil demonstration video in the next week.
