Dyl & Andrea's garden
Добавлен 18 янв 2021
We are here to share our Southern New England garden experience including the success and the failures hoping to inspire others to garden or at least enjoy our process. Our growing season only gets a few months out of the year being in zone 6B, but we look forward to it every year. Being in a cooler climate means getting creative with extending the garden season. Thanks for the support and happy growing!
Garden Tasks for September: Planning Next Year's Garden + Planting Beets
Hello, September! It feels like Summer came and went but at least we can still garden come the Fall. Colder weather doesn't mean gardening has to stop altogether; it just slows down. Night temps are already dipping in the low 50s (zone 6b) so, it's only a matter of time before Fall is really here. At this time of the season, I like to start planning ahead for next year's garden. I talk about a few tips I follow when doing this and also what I'm thinking of doing differently. I am also directly sowing beets for the first time so, let me know if you have any tips for me!
What are you planning on doing differently in the garden next year? Happy gardening!

How we support our indeterminate (vining) tomato plants | Easy assembly trellis
Просмотров 1 тыс.2 месяца назад
As the summer goes on, the tomatoes get taller and heavier, and we need to support them to keep them healthy all season. We have about 50 tomatoes in our garden so thinking of an effective and affordable way to support them was a task. We are trying out a new trellis style and in this video, we show how we built it. We have tried the traditional staking method and the Florida weave in the past ...
How to prune tomato plants and why you should consider keeping your "suckers"

Did you know that suckers eventually produce more tomatoes? While you don’t want to completely neglect your tomato plant, keeping some suckers can be beneficial. More branches = more tomatoes! I like to maintain a balance of clipping and keeping suckers. Here are a few tips I follow to keep my plants blight free but also to maximize my yield. - Prune early in the season to keep your plant healt...

Two Ways to Secure Tomato Plants | How to Do Florida Weave + Tomato Cage
Просмотров 3093 года назад
Tomato time! We always get BIG tomato plants as we like to grow indeterminate varieties and find ourselves struggling to keep them upright once they get fruit heavy. This year we try the Florida weave and an unconventional technique with tomato cages. So far, we have learned that tomato cages are best for determinate (smaller) varieties and the Florida weave is working well as our plants get ta...
How to maintain and harvest lettuce for maximum yield

It is a little late in the season for lettuce however, here are a few tips to maintain your lettuce crop and keep it growing back throughout the season. Lettuce is easy to grow and maintain under the right conditions, but it did take us a year or two to establish a good system that worked for us and we hope it helps others too. Happy gardening! #gardening #growinglettuce #homegrown

That's awesome to hear! Thank you
your lady garden looks amazing 😍 keep it pruned 😮
Hello very nice sharing well done keep it up
Looks fantastic. Well done 😊😊😊
snails ate my harvest, are you crushing them?
I'm sorry to hear that! I haven't had any issues with slugs luckily, but there are some methods to deal with them that I have heard of. One way is filling a shallow dish with beer and burying it half-way into the soil, so the slugs get lured and trapped. Or using diatomaceous earth on top of the soil around the effected plants. Good luck!
Hello Good morning thanks for sharing such a beautiful natural environment You are doing super excellent keep it up uncountable likes
Hello Good morning very nice sharing You are doing very well keep it up
Thank you!
@@DandAgardens You are very welcome
Best you and your herb garden ❤
You and your garden best ❤
I had a late start this year and had similar issues. I can see powdery mildew on some plant leaves, like squash. I had that issue and I carefully z(trying to not let spores become airborne) removed all leaves with powdery mildew leaves from the plants and I had end rot also from inconsistent watering and I simply removed those, I did not know it before but squash flowers may have to be pollinated twice to prevent end rot and since both good and bad microbes live in the soil it is best if you don’t have hardly any leaves touching soil by thinning those leaves from the bottom and using sticks and by tying plants or using the Florida plant tying where you crisscross between the sticks around your plants early in the season. I live in Ohio and I use a greenhouse so my problems may not be exactly the same as yours but seems like you are doing better than I have so far with learning so stay proud and diligent and next year will be better.
Thanks for the advice!
Great video and very helpful plant fams 🌿🪴🙌🙏🌱

my opinion on the cucumbers is that it could be soil density. cucumber roots are thin and light weight. they don't do well in digging deep.
Thank you for the insight! I have not heard of that before.
I have never had good luck with the Roma type tomatoes so I just gave up on them. I do oxhearts now instead. I don’t have the issue with the end rot and they are meaty enough for sauces. Amish Paste, Wes, and Kosovo varieties work well in my garden. Good luck on the rest of your season. This has been a challenging one here with all the rain we have had.
It's always a good idea to have multiple varieties. Thank you, I'm glad I'm not alone!
New friend here.
