YEAR of WHISKEY?! The best, the worst, and the bottles between!
These used to be impossible to find. Now I see them not infrequently on the shelf. Price? Quality?
Haven’t cracked mine yet. Love Stagg and agree never had a bad one. Some are better than others but all are great. Babying a 22b as it has been my favorite recent release even though I have 4 backups.
So jealous. That one sounds amazing.
MMCA24 is amazing.
Just paid $129.99 pre-tax at Costco in NorCal.
That is a great price!
I prefer Act 12. More of that minty/herbal rye note and better mouthfeel. The port really comes through. It’s a great whiskey but needs to stay closer to $100. I have a pursuit untied rye and still Austin cask strength that are on par for $65 each.
Would love a comparison/blind with ben Holladay SRW rickhouse proof
Just won a raffle and got this for $80, mine was 126p first time I’ve had it, loved it at that price, def wouldn’t pay secondary but I haven’t found a bottle I would pay secondary for
Great video as usual! I have few other batches with backups… you think 24A backup worthy around 120? Thanks guys!
From our reviews I don't know if a backup would be warranted at that price. But if you like it, go for it!
Im definitely doing 9p-11a for a bottle of this. 🤷🏾♂️ Cheers🥃🥃
This bottle is weak. Not worth the money, even at msrp. Weller 12 is an even worse version of this bottle. Watered down bottles lack flavor.
Stagg is one of my favorites for the price point and availability. I have a 24A open and always get rich and viscous caramel flavor..
So would it be more worth it spending an up-price of $200-$250 for an 11 or get the 12 @ 150?
Personally, I’d opt for the 12 if there’s $100 difference, but if you can land the 11 for $50 extra I’d go that route
Stated another way - is an 11 year age stated, barrel proof burning from one of the better legacy distilleries worth $75? Uh, yeah guys. Even the lesser batches are well with the price.
I’ve always said this would be a good starter rye whiskey. I think it could be a bridge for people who are more “bourbon” people than “rye” people. But the $80 price tag is its downfall. I truly enjoyed this pour, but $80 is too steep for a starter rye whiskey. A thing for High West to be proud of though - bottled-in-bond is no small accomplishment.
All great points.
Just paid 199.00 in NY last night 😢 waiting for thanksgiving to open
Do we think a scale of 1-10 (where you can do things like 7.8) instead of a grading scale might also be good?
It’s 12-25 Year old Bourbon. You can find the percentage breakdown of each recipe used on their website
RD1 maple or Decadence???
Decadence for sure. But for price maybe rd1
I just bought this year 12 yr. Can't wait to open the bottle
It’s a 6 year old, 80 rye / 20 malted rye whiskey at 100 proof. It’s … not bad. But yeahhhhh. Constellation do be fuckin shits up with prices.
High West has REALLY been lacking out of late. Really hope they get away from Constellation
💯💯
I have a batch 39 and definitely get that dusty/nutty flavor...it does linger too long without developing into anything else. That said, I love this pour. I'm just past the neck and curious to see how it opens up in a few months. Hoping more of the sweet/ honey notes come through. Cheers.
One of the best whiskey this year nd best disco! I gt 2 bottles nd looking for 3rd ( no luck) seems very limited release this year.
Absolutely agree with you guys! I still can get Larceny c922 … which is miles ahead (it was Bourbon of the year “breaking bourbon) just 70 bucks.
Was mwnd always tawny port?
From the releases we have seen yes.
@@StillWhiskey interesting I always assumed it was ruby
I don’t think this was a truly fair comparison between 11 and 12. Your 11 has likely been open close to a year, while the 12 was a fresh cracked bottle. Anytime you have a port or sherry finish, the flavor will tend to open up and intensify after the bottle has been open for a while. I would suggest you go back and compare the two bottles after the 12 has been open at least a few weeks few weeks. 👍🏻
when and where can we get this stuff in India ?
I had this fresh crack in a parking lot. Honestly, I liked it. But I feel I need to taste it after being opened up. Was this also fresh crack for you guys?
Yeah we will have to come back to it. The 2023 on fresh crack was still better. But this one may need some opening up. We will see.
I don’t buy it but I just saw it for the first time at Costco for $129. I’m thinking about picking it up 🤷♂️
That’s a great price!
I am the proud owner of 2 bottles. After splitting the first one with a friend I had to pick up another one when I found it
I’m gonna say bourbon of the year for legacy distillers…for of course the experience it provides but also the availability. Any bourbon that would compete with this from legacy distillers would be creeping up to $1000 on secondary and completely unattainable otherwise. Yes the majority will not get a chance at this bottle but it’s MUCH MORE available than a KoK, BTAC etc…
I just picked this up yesterday. Waiting till Christmas to crack it open with the fam. Great video! Edit: paid 170 at total wines
Same. Bought it for my boyfriend for one of his Xmas presents. I’m dying trying to keep it a secret. I got the last bottle at my total wine. Apparently they only got 12 boxes in this year. In the biggest city in the country 😂
Actually the scene is just what day it was bottled on.. day 1 is scene 1, day 9 is scene 9. They are not single barrels Banter is very hard to follow / understand the reasoning behind the criticism. Kinda all over the map with scoring
This probably my favorite bourbon. It's incredible
I can only imagine how good that is. One of these days I’ll be able to nose and palette it.
I need one I can’t find it in New York City
Thanks for the video, but man can you not heir the ECO. 😂🥃
Yeah we noticed half way through 😬🤣
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Can't wait to try it one day lol
Well, I was gonna buy 2 bottles online until I saw this review. Thanks for saving me $300!
I was very very fortunate to put three bottles in my collection and one to drink but I ended up drinking a friend's before I opened mine :-)
Great vid! Thanks. ...what are you guys looking at to the side? lol. Cheers!
We have some notes on the side to help remind us our grading scale. You think we would have it down by now 🤣🤣🤣
Live streams would be awesome. Seeing y’all sitting (as long as there is a booster chair for Vince) would also be cool. The camping attack was gold. And I can vouch to that hotel situation… 😂😂❤❤❤🤟
I got one for the $125 but not sure I'll appreciate it yet. I'm trying to work up to the proof before I open. (I can't wait much longer. I'm ready to open it up) Thanks for the review. Good job.
Great score at that price! Let us know what you think when you open yours.
BT or WT101
Picked up Act 12 today. Price is up to $149. Last year was $125. I enjoyed Act 10 but 11 was a big miss for me. Looking forward to cracking it open this evening.
verdict?
MIDWINTER’S MASHUP Blind them all, include 10
MWND has seen a significant decline in popularity and praise since Act 10. There were way too many bottles released for Act 11 (from 115k to 189k) and the price hike was completely unnecessary. It sat on shelves for months around here in the Midwest. Currently, there are better port-finished ryes available for less year round. Sagamore port finished and other releases they have are much better. High West may want to rethink production and price of MWND. It’s is no longer special and is a pretty terrible value. Most reviews these days are negative. Full on pass.
Unless it has changed for this year, scene is the day it was bottled. not the barrel number it came from.
Yeah that is correct. You can tell by my face when Rich makes the comment that I thought he was wrong 😂 -Devin
@@StillWhiskey 🤣
You guys are so fun 😂
