My family has lived in this area for decades. This video is a perfect illustration of why this should to be re-vitalized. All you can see is a run down old sports ground surrounded by houses. What you cant see are the falling down fences, the rats and rubbish everywhere, the noise all weekend and late at night, the blaring of the loudspeakers, roads clogged up with people parking willy nilly. Its silly to pretend this is a good location for a busy sport ground with lots of traffic and games being played night and day. If it was modernized it would fit in better (and all the surrounding house prices would increase!)

I made one today but it was a little larger than I wanted so I reduced it to 30 stitches and 6 rows, perfect size for what I wanted. Thanks for sharing your tutorial, I’m a complete beginner and your video was really easy to follow and the poppy turned out perfect.

There is no question solar is superb with return on investment (ROI) in Sydney. With batteries however this video is very optimistic. This is a blended ROI which includes the ROI of battery combined with solar. The average ROI in Sydney at the moment is roughly 14 years for a battery (removing solar component) and 3.5 years ROI for solar (for a mid-range system, about 5 for a high end system - and also highly dependent on self consumption and feed in tariff). Combine the two, and it makes batteries look better. ROI really boils down to calculating the opportunity cost for a given kW/h at time of use. When the sun is out you can choose to - (a) self consume it (which saves you the per kW/h rate - roughly just under 30c these days), (b) export it (this could be as low as 5c but as high as 25c) or (c) store it (to bring out later). To calculate ROI you take the cost per kW/h from grid at time of storage (example 30c), take into account battery storage losses of around 10%, then subtract the cost of pulling back from battery at time of usage (let's say during peak when there is no more sun) 40c. So you might only save 8c per kW/h when pulling back. That basically means it's a very, very slow ROI and typically means that by itself, the ROI for a battery is well after the warrantied period of 10 years. This is likely only helped if future energy bills increase. --- Batteries are great for two things.... 1. Storage when feed in tariffs are so low that exporting to grid is no longer worth it BUT 2. and most importantly of all, providing less stress to the grid at times when there is excess sun and a lot of people exporting. What we need is Ryde Council to encourage Ausgrid to provide our area with community batteries.
