It’s a COMPLETE rip off and it should be illegal! I started a cleaning business in February and some guy from Angi Leads talked me into joining Angi leads, saying there was business all around my small town. It was a complete lie and yes I got one permanent lead from them! I quit after 2 months and wouldn’t refund my money! They’re crooks!!

I just use Google Ads. Right there alongside Thumbtack with a real business listing. Last week spent $26something on Google Ads, got 6 contacts.

I am a personal trainer and have 1,000 things to say. I will try to keep it brief. Different business but the principles remain the same.... 1. Thumbtack used to be phenomenal (2 years ago and back to 2014) Leads were cheap and you werent charged until you actually responded. 2. Now, if a client responds to your quote you are charged a fee of roughly $20-45 3. "Direct leads" are not direct leads. For these I am charged $50-80 just for an opportunity to communicate with the prospect. Thumbtack now ENCOURAGES consumers to contact as many pros as possible which makes it by definition (in my opinion) NOT a direct lead. 4. Just from my experience the lead quality has degraded by I would say 70%. My sales ability and process has remained good imo and I used to close 2/3. In the past couple of years that has gone way down because their screening process is terrible. 5. This is a direct response from a customer and happened just the other day: Prospect message: "Hey thank you, sorry this was an automated text sent from the thumbtack concierge team sorry for the miscommunication." My response: "That’s fine S#$%& (redacted name) no worries but what does that mean? Are you interested in finding a coach like me?" Prospect: "No sir, sorry again for the miscommunication." Me: "Ok, if you can inform thumbtack I would appreciate it. and just to be clear, you did not send the message? I know this is not your concern (and I believe you of course) but it is just strange since we are charged when you "reply" Prospect: "No I didn’t, I received a call from thumbtack support about another trainer I had messaged myself. And by the time I got off the phone I noticed that the app sent a message to you at 12:12pm moments after I got off the phone with the support team.I was also confused as well cause I most definitely didn’t compose the message myself. But I will let them know momentarily about the issue. Sorry again have a nice day." Me: "Thank you so much for providing me details I really appreciate it. Most would just ignore my last message to be candid." I have 100 other examples like this. Thumbtack occasionally commits outright fraud! I continued using Thumbtack for a while after it stopped being effective because it used to truly be evergreen and consistent.

100% agree they strat me 7$ per lead in tow years they raised our lead price to 85$ sending fake leads I will not recommend thumbtack to any one it is scam steam

Thumbtack sucks. You have no freedom and they treat you like a child. I had a $200 job auto-booked and the lead fee was FFOORRTTYY SSEEVVEENN DDOOLLLLAARRSS. And there's no getting that fee back! I couldn't reschedule over the app so I sent the bare minimum message so they'd release the lady's phone number, so we could both get away from that stupid app and get something figured out. This is almost every experience with Thumbtack and Angie.

The sponsored Google Ads and higher ranking in maps section is actually really cheap. In my opinion. Well, when you're looking at paying only a couple hundred bucks a month. In comparison to a lead gen company, charging $60+/lead, at a cost of a few hundred per week, with half the leads being bogus, tire kickers, or ghosting you. If you're a remodeling contractor you really should be advertising directly with Google. Being that's about the only way Google makes money. So, if you're wanting to manipulate Google searches, no better way than spending money direct with Google.

Angie is a scam. Fake leads, super cheap customers, extortion tactics. You never make with them unless you pay them thousands upon thousands and have a robust sales department. But at that point, you don't need them regardless

I have started to use a new platform called WeefindPro. They are much cheaper than Thumbtack, and they provide direct leads. So far, as I have noticed, my leads are not being shared with other contractors. I think I'll add your advices to my pool.

I worked with thumbtack and yelp for last three years, and trying to start Google ads campaigns three times and every time the lead was around 150$ for each. I hired two times marketing manager who had experience but the best what they did was around 100$ for lead. It’s unbelievable and I don’t know what to do with that, please maybe you can explain what’s the problem. We are appliance repair company
