TONE
Добавлен 30 май 2013
I enjoy the process of making things. Guitar was introduced at age 8, thanks to my cousins, and I made this channel to share what my solo journey has led me to thus far.
Grew up loving Green Day, then Nirvana, then Modest Mouse, Spoon, Pixies, then The Shins, then Puscifer, Tool, NIN, and Silversun Pickups. Started writing songs at 12, recording at 16, looping around 18, and now at 33, I've constructed the setup of my dreams. This is my escape and if someone likes to listen, thank you. It is appreciated.
Another Branded Lawrence was my first project, links are below.
Signal Path:
All instruments to be looped into mixer, out stereo to RC-300 looper, out stereo to Yamaha EMX68S powered mixer with vocals and instruments I don't want looped, out through two 15" PA speakers. Secondary output goes to Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 interface for direct recording.
MIDI layout:
Looper to Korg ES-1 to Flashback X4 to MicroKorg.
Roland U-20 controls MicroKorg.
Keylab 49 controls Korg EA-1.

Strange In Every Way 2:33 2016
My Undead Friends 6:51 2008
Let It Go 11:09 2021
Something Else 13:38 2016
My loop setup is overwhelming so it's really nice to practice a set list and only focus on guitar and vocals. It's still hard for me to nail down a balanced structure with loop songs meant to be played live but this is only the 2nd play through.
I'm still overwhelmed with inspiration from the Silversun Pickups September 7 show in my hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. My friend Gabe relit a fire the other day to make and rehearse this setlist for an open mic night.

Prerecorded bass, guitar, and drum parts with on the spot guitar and vocals using both undesignated and recycled lyrics. I just wanted to have fun.

I stumbled back into this song at work and sang along the whole drive home, knowing what I had to do. Some melodies hit me so hard, I get choked up. This one grips me. Took me to a different place while playing it. Keyboard and bass were prerecorded but guitar, vocals, and the [shaky] drum loop were all live. Halfway learned the keys and looped simplified versions of verse and chorus. First tim...

Video of night adventures. Audio was pre-recorded bass, a guitar part, and a drum part with live vocals , drum parts, and Electribe ES-1 motion sequence practice with delay. First TONE recording I've ever made a second track in Garageband for. Added delayed then distorted guitar part. Lyrics were written for most of the first half.

Live loop song with bass and drums prerecorded on looper to save time. Lyrics were written but most guitar and song progression was on the spot. The video is from my footage of our latest kayak trip. First day on Pine River with overnight at Peterson Bridge South Campground then skipped to just after Tippy Dam on Manistee River then paddled to Lake Michigan with an overnight at a dispersed camp...
TONE - Sore (A Love Letter to Silverson Pickups)
Просмотров 715 месяцев назад
I threw this song together for mental release when I got home from work. The bass and drum parts are completely inspired by Silverson Pickups (mostly Panic Switch). Their song writing is phenomenal. I only discovered them two years ago, which shocks me, but I love so much from every album. This is me having fun while saying THANK YOU for two years of inspiration they've given me. Life's negativity finds its way through me So I stare at the wall to feel relief It may as well point to nowhere Just as these thoughts lead me to believe. Came up with this song after work. Jammed one long take then recorded this without writing lyrics.

Another Branded Lawrence has been my solo recording project since 2007. TONE is a loosely written live loop side project. This song is from What Not To Be, an album recorded pretty close to how I looped the songs live.

If you sync about an 18-20 sec start over one sounds device and another for a loop of the song- it’s post worthy for sure. Worked well so far with this and Tiny Cities Made of Ashes.
@@256ROOFERS I’ll try that soon!
We absolutely have the same taste in music. Keep it up. Shared you on Reddit.
@@256ROOFERS Thank you!! Very much appreciated.
Hey man, I rake the internet looking for unique artists doing there own thing…I almost never comment because most of it is respectfully amateur…You got something though dude. I like it! Keep posting. I like your style. Its great!
Thank you for giving this a listen! Most of my videos are overly drawn out jams for fun but this was my effort towards a live performance. Your feedback inspires me greatly to practice dozens of songs I could perform like this.
My algorithms deepest cut.
A part of me always regrets posting these drawn out and unplanned jams cause people probably rightfully think I might know what I’m doing putting out a 12 minute song that should be 4 if I ever practiced them. The rest of me knows this is why I created TONE. Always flawed one track recordings, lately with pre recorded loops on the ol Boss RC-300 to ease transitions. It surprises me that I don’t get more dislikes or negative comments. I’m just here to have fun.
Loved it, thanks!
@@jonmichaelgianvito9521 Thank YOU! I’d never played it like this but having fun with inspiration can work wonders.
This is really fucking good man
sounds like you were listening to bauhaus then no? lmaooo
Haha I am now and I love it! Your depth of musical knowledge is inspiring. I’m rather clueless, like flakes in a snow globe that can look kinda cool but have nothing real to offer. Have you been writing any music lately?
@@SOLOTONEI try lol. I got 4 hours of recordings that I’ve carved down to like a 30 min playlist. It’s too many covers for my liking but I was thinking of putting it here so I can move on. I wanna start fresh. Less covers.
@@shawnlennon1947Let me know when you post them! I’m following your page so it should show up for me either way. I hear you on covers but they can be satisfying.
@@SOLOTONE will do! hey do you publish your stuff? I know we don’t get millions of listens but I always wonder if it’s worth doing. It isn’t very expensive I don’t think. I wouldn’t spend money to push my stuff but I feel like all of my favorite artists do it.
I almost got a distrokid account when I put my tape on here. I get so excited though that I usually go with the fastest cheapest easier route.
Your a man man ❤respect
Dude I’m loving this!
Thank you!! Instruments and some vocals were recorded in 2016 but somehow it took me 8 years to get myself to finish it. Interesting to have vocals on an album span 8 years. First two songs were 2016, 3 and 4 were a few years later, 5 was years after that, Strange In Every Way and Unresponsive were this year, etc.
@@SOLOTONE Your loops and improvs you post are sick, but it’s cool that you can hear your work more edited down and polished. Your daily seshes conditioned you like the Beatles playing Hamburg and it shows for those takes. I’m jealous of some of those clean ass guitar parts and compositions in general. Also, Don’t remind me it’s been 8 years since 2016 😂. That went by quick.
@@shawnlennon1947 Thank you again! I’m really glad you enjoyed it. I lost focus and patience for recording albums in 2017 then started making the full loop setup in 2020 to have fun and it taught me a lot but also held me back a lot, especially with drinking involved. I’ve got 2017 and 2022 Another Branded Lawrence albums to finish and polish to get away from the repetitive nature of loops so there is more coming! TONE was made as a live loop channel for fun but it picked up more traction than Another Branded Lawrence ever did in 16 years and 9 albums.
@@shawnlennon1947 www.reverbnation.com/164118/album/1177 if you’re bored sometime, this is the album I think you’ll enjoy.
Man it looked like a nice time on the water man. How far did you float on the river? I like how you had your feet 🦶 kick up on the kayak 🛶. I have 6 boys & they all like to call that ( Cruise control ) it awesome to see you kayaking 🛶 barefooted 👣 too because I have to kayak 🦶 barefooted 👣 too because I have big very very Extremely wide feet sz15 6E wide ( which is very very extremely wide feet 🦶 ) with very very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots when I was young so that why I have to kayak 🛶 barefooted 👣. Good video buddy thanks you for sharing this video.
Comment layout seems like AI, but I’ll bite. It was about 21 hours on the river over 3 days. Day one was 9 hours on Pine River to Peterson Bridge South Campground, skipped to just after Tippy Dam on Manistee River for day two and paddled 8 hours to our dispersed campsite. Day three was about 4 hours to Manistee and the lakeshore.
I bet this was sooo much fun Cuz! Totally jealous
It was a great time for sure. Really cool floating through Manistee at the end and floating out to Lake Michigan.
Well done!
Bada$$ as always... definitely a Tool lovers dream!

The good thing about that early MM discog is that a lot of those bops provide a good template to experiment and take in wildly different directions. Man, I used to take Tundra/Desert to some crazy places - there's genius in the simplicity. As a songwriter, Isaac Brock reminds me of Bob Dylan in way - Bob had to walk with All Along the Watch Tower for Jimi to run with it. Brock had to walk with this song for you to run with it.
I agree! Though I can’t say I ran with this sloppy jam. I rarely practice songs before recording them, usually just come up with the loop parts and wing the rest. Not a great habit but I feel unrestricted doing it that way. No anxiety, just feel it out and maybe it’ll sound alright.
WOOOOOOO!!! Well done!!!😁
Wooooooo!!! Well done!😁
I'm really digging this. Almost reminds me a bit of These Arms Are Snakes mixed with Pedro the Lion, Slint, and Drive Like Jehu. Don't get me wrong-It is NOT DERIVITIVE! I simply mean that it's striking like some of the music by the other bands, yet remains its own thing. Kudos!
Thank you! I really appreciate well thought out feedback and I promise I don’t deserve the thought you gave out to give that.
Incredible talent
I appreciate it! Glad you could look past the sloppy unplanned parts.
Awesome!
Thank you!
😑 'promo sm'
Very nice cover ❤
Really good!
I almost get excited at broken solder joints. I know I can at least fix it myself and it wasn't something catastrophic for the circuit. when I buy old "for parts" gear, its so exciting when you open it and its just a cold solder joint keeping it from operating.
Such a good point! I have barely scratched the surface or fixing gear but it’s something I’d really like to learn in detail.
Awesome cover, man! Way different from the original but in the best way possible.
Much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed it through the many blemishes. Made up most parts, didn’t practice, and I kicked the wires apart in my kick pedal the song before and didn’t realize.
Hell yeah dude. You build stuff? So sick. Don’t be modest (mouse) those are very well made. I used to build mica covered plywood and mdf junk for some guy when I dropped out of high school. Yuck. I knew I liked you for some reason other then the sick loops and love for your cat.
I appreciate you. I’ve lived in my sister’s unused and unfinished basement since January of 2020 after a bad relationship. I was drinking a lot when I built that kitchenette but everything past how I attached it to the wall and installed the inner sides is pretty legit. Those two major things just made everything else more complicated, but it’s solid as a rock. All the cheapest pine plywood and cheap pine 1x’s. It was nice having the bathroom right on the other side [of a 6” thick concrete wall] to run plumbing through and tie into the bathroom vanity for the sink and electrical is all fed from a GFCI plug I installed when I moved the floor outlet to above the counter.
@@SOLOTONE bro I live at my sis rn too. Issues around covid/ the hurricane rendered me and my kitty without house. Mad sisters out there saving brothers in our generation it seems lol. She’s like one of my best friends and practically raised me. I didn’t have a lot of my own friends to hang out after school so she’d bring me to hang with her friends. I remember feeling so cool cause I knew the kids 2 years older lol. Anyways. In conclusion, We gotta cherish our sistas 😂
@@shawnlennon1947 Couldn't agree more, my friend. I'm really sorry to hear about your situation but glad you had that support afterwards! Things can always get bad, but they could also be worse. Glass half full! And that's coming from a pessimistic hermit.
www.reverbnation.com/anotherbrandedlawrence/songs Just wanted to share a time when I actually wrote and recorded songs instead of constant loop jamming
Sick as always!! Favorite album. Me and my buddy were supposed to see them before Jeremiah died and it was the anniversary where they played the album in full. Gonna be a huge life regret man, that guys like my favorite drummer in one of my favorite bands.
Thanks man! Such an incredible album that I didn’t even realize until 2006 and the admiration has grown ever since then. I’m so sorry for your missed experience. That kind of thing leaves a hole, but your love and respect is what keeps him present after life. There’s solace in that.
Goosebumps all the way through!! Love the music my dude. Keep it coming!!
So much appreciated! They’ve inspired me so much since I was introduced around 2003. My covers are never correct but are pure influential fun as tributes.
can't believe he was suspended
Haha I made that hanging platform for fruit storage, then I wiped out half my kitchenette to expand play space. Priorities…
Amazing looper cover. One of my fav MM songs! ❤
Thank you! Old MM songs are my favorite to do live loop versions of.
why are you judging people so damn hard?! Your taking your point of views a bit to far!
Crushed it. Love it
I fully did not expect to like this cover because I was anticipating just another attempted duplication. I'm pleased to be wrong! I like the fact you made the song your own.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Modest Mouse was my favorite band for years and I’ve had a lot of fun jamming out versions of Tiny Cities, Dramamine, and Broke.
Excellent
Thank you! I have a lot of fun with a few Modest Mouse songs.
NIce man, really cool vocals in this one!
Fucking sick dude!!!
Thanks man! This was a runoff improv jam from my song Red Lights from 2005 that I did a loop version of and it was all luck and feel. I have so many posted examples of bad improv jams, someday maybe I’ll wanna write stuff again. TONE is basically all 5% written and the rest is a free for all, for better or mostly worse
Sick!
hell yea dude, your drumming is sick. did you live loop the vocals? this vocal style really reminds me of playing street sk8 on ps1, that late 90 early 00 sound. so sick!
Thanks man!! I use a Korg ES-1 Electribe Sampler for consistent drum beat/tempo but I think it's fairly easy to tell when the drums are live/live looped (starting at 3:16 here). The vocals are live looped, I have the mic on a channel selector pedal to either go to the end mixer or to the pre-looper mixer. This was recorded after midnight with headphones only, it's wild to create this much noise while making the [near] minimum. Also, blast from the past you mentioning that game! I remember renting that from a video store way back!
nice💯💯
Thank you! Just havin some fun.
Banger of a tune
Thank you! Sometimes I get lucky with these live loop improv jams. I did cut bad sections out of this though.
So sick!
Thank you!
Loopmaster TONE. this man makes his gear work for him instead of the other way around. great track and love the lighting on this one!
Thank you! Instruments, isolation, and inspiration are my favorite combination
hell yeah! you always deliver. that track you started on the fuzz bass at the end. fucking sweet.
Thank you! Just wasn’t ready to stop. Rehearsing isn’t my strong suit.
sick, always loved these pieces from the moon soundtrack, cool to see you play them live
Thank you! I wrote this over 10 years ago as a tribute to that soundtrack.
The entire atmosphere of that room alone feels very modest mousey
This is good I especially like your vocals
Thank you! Zoom V3 vocal processor on harmony
Dropped into my recommendations out of nowhere. Clicked for Leon. Loving this!
Hey I don't know why I got this in my recommandations, but it's pretty cool. I get some Tool vibes from this. 👍 I like it.
Thank you! Been listening to a lot of Tool lately. I rarely write songs anymore, I just come up with a starting loop and jam what I feel for fun.
