    ALEXANDRA SPAULDING remains one of my favorite SOAP DIVAS. 🏆 Beverlee McKenzie created her with the same panache as IRIS on Another World (and subsequently TEXAS). TEXAS! was the only soap to give verbal billing to a star in opening credits. TEXAS! starring Beverlee McKenzie. Just discovered that her son SCOTT is directing at DOL. So sad that both Beverlee and GL are both gone.

    I want to thank you so much for uploading this clip. I've always loved Alexandra's character, and I feel like her story and personality changed once Marj took over the role - she did great in her own right but watching Beverly competently portray a shift in feelings for someone, letting her guard down and talking with someone who would be least expected of all for a friendly conversation... Whoever said she was a complex character is right. But she could portray warmth like in this scene, and in the same moment, open up with disdain and a casual boot toward the door for Reva. Then they begin to talk and they start to let their guard down and see that they actually do have things in common. I really, really miss this kind of dialogue. It was so damn well written. And I can't help but compare it to soaps now where it's just very compressed and none of the characters really ever contradict themselves or seem genuinely human. Again thank you so much for posting. This made my day.

      @@gibranlewis7300 So happy to receive your response! I first saw Beverlee on Another World, then followed her to TEXAS! There, she was given unheard of billing...TEXAS! Starring Beverlee McKenzie! When she left GL, she used a clause in her contract saying she had to give 6 months notice to leave. She quietly cleaned her dressing room of personal items and went on a vacation (which was part of the contract)! Once on vacation ,she informed GL that she would not be returning. Believe that was her last role. Early death was attributed to health issues. She had a son named Scott who worked on soap production. Recently noticed a Scott McKenzie is now a director 🤔 on DAYS. Marj appeared on many soaps, as well as numerous TV shows as guest and was in CLAMBAKE and PATTON. When GL was closing down, I sent a letter to Marj which resulted in continuing correspondence until shortly before her passing! Also, Marj was a great mother. When her son developed AIDS, she took a break from career to care for him. Hope you had a great Easter 🐣! Feel free to keep in touch. Always good to find others with similar interests!

      @@rick0e295 Thanks for that lovely reply!! I knew many of those things about Beverlee. I was in middle school when Marj took over the role, but I loved the portrayal by both actresses ( drawn into the show by the powerhouse that Bev's Alexandra was, sidewatching while my mom followed the story lol ). My eldest daughter's name is partly a nod to that epic character & CEO dynamo diva lol. I hated the way some of the producers, after 95 and at points in the 200s, shortchanged and/or mishandled Alexandra and Marj, but she still often shone. I did get to correspond with Marj a few times in letters, in the midst of my sounding off to the GL producers after 97 lol. She was a very friendly lady. God Bless & Keep them both, & I hope you had a wonderful Passover & Resurrection Day!!

      @@gibranlewis7300 Happy that you also had pleasant experience with Marj! ALEXANDRA may have been a BARONESS, but Marj was QUEEN of HEARTS 💕. After recreating ALEXANDRA, Marj was eventually moved to recurring status (no contract).That is when she became Vanessa Bennett on AMC. There, Vincent Irrizary played her son, just as he played ALEXANDRA'S son on GL. When GL decided to bring ALEXANDRA back, Marj was under contract to AMC. They then brought in Joan Collins as ALEXANDRA. Love Joan, but she was channeling ALEXIS. Her run was cut short by mutual? Consent. Marj was finished at AMC so was brought back as ALEXANDRA. Even then, she was not used as much as she should have been. But GL was struggling to stay alive 😪. Thanks for your kind response. I can never say enough about Marj! 👸. My weekend was quiet but pleasant. Hope yours was too. LOL 😆. 😎. Think I have told all I know about Beverlee and Marj, but feel free to contact with other questions or comments. @@rick0e295 I love your enthusiasm, about Alexandra, grande dame and baroness and CEO diva that she was, and about Beverlee and Marj. I remember the things you mentioned from the late 90s and the first decade of the 2000s. I think GL would have lasted longer if they had done more to truly respect and utilize great characters like Alexandraas they were at their peaks in the late 80s and early 90s. Young & The Restless has lasted as long as it has by always treating it's veteran champions and in-story "nobility" like royalty. GL wanted to try to grab teens and 20s who weren't interested, not realizing that it's the parents and grandparents who often get their kids etc. involved in the shows through their own interest and enthusiasm. Ah well. Spilled milk now, though I'd be intereested if HBO did a prestiege cable version of GL, Succession style, with Cate Blanchette ( Blanchet?? Galadriel in the Lord of The Rings movies lol, she has the voice for it, and the regal stature ) portraying Alexandra. lol I enjoyed Joan, as she was somewhat Alex like and brought a great historical footnote to the character, i.e., Alexandra Spalding, a character so epic GL was able to get the legendary Joan Collins ( whose nighttime drama famous Alexis had, along with the likes of Margaret Thatcher, a large role in spurring the rise in epic, powerful, diva lady characters that arose in the 80s, from Alexandra to Lucinda etc. ) to play the role. Anywho, great chatting with you. God Bless you!!

    Alex using that whole wind-up about "how drab it is to be pregnant nowadays" in order to trick Reva into admitting that Josh isn't Dylan's father was one of the best things I've seen on a soap. It isn't often we get to see Reva openly realize that someone outwitted her. And note - Alex did not take the opportunity to press Reva about who Dylan's father actually was.

    • @intellisquid
      @intellisquid Год назад

      You make an extremely good point here! Alex could be manipulative but she never really showed her hand or approach to something like finding out who Dylan's father was (wasn't) without a strategy. It's seriously a delightful surprise that the writers worked things in like this with established characters. Like you said, Riva was always quite sharp but seeing that little fairly innocent ploy on Alexander's part, and Reva's reaction to it, was seriously gratifying. I really wish soaps today had a similar sense of nuance to their writing and dialogue.
