Ice retention challenge: Engel 19, Igloo BMX 25, RTIC 20
Ten pounds of ice was placed in each of the coolers. Then all three coolers were placed in a car in Florida July heat to see how long the ice would keep.

I kind of wanted an igloo BMX but now I definitely have to have one! Thanks buddy👍
This is the review the people deserved and needed. Simple, actually a great test, comparable brands, actually opened the coolers (to replicate use), showed us the ice. My decision has been made now. This is the best review, thank you so much!
does the igloo bmx 25 have a gasket in the lid? o couldn't tell
The igloo out performed the others despite having no gasket and less percentage of ice for it's volume. Imagine if you used the extra space for more ice and simply added an airtight gasket. It wouldn't even be close.
One thing to watch out for if you are trying to store food is the ability to use a tray to keep things out of the water. The Rtic has a lip and the Igloo does not.... Also, Cnet has a really good review re 2022 coolers that might help people. But overall, great review, thanks!
Good hack to keep stuff out of the water, use freezer ziplock bags.
Best review of these three coolers I've seen. So many people don't understand how to conduct a basic comparison, thank you!
Three different sizes, two with gaskets, placed in varying amounts of shade and sun exposure and at radical angles from the vertical and you consider this the "best review" you've seen. LOL
that Engle was a " dry box" and not a cooler..
Don't know where you get that idea from?
Great review! Finally someone figures out got to review a cooler the right way
I'd like to know how the car was parked? Was the afternoon sun beaming in on one side. Would make a big difference. Just saying
Clearly. They're also not designed to work at a 45 degree angle. Or with different volumes, have different ratios of ice to air. Very inconsistent and unscientific test.
I have the igloo bmx. Was in a UK heatwave. Over 90 degrees most of last week. It performed well. Really impressed with it. I did cool it down before use.
Good video, but everyone should keep in mind that the ice will last even longer once the coolers are packed with food/cans/whatever
Interesting, I would have imagined the contrary.
Really? I would think it would melt faster. the cooler shock ice packs give you an extra day of ice retention tho
From using bmx last week. This is true.
Got the Igloo couple of days ago on Amazon. Can't wait to try it on a couple of days camping trip.
How did it work out for you?
@@joeblow8962 great. Left the cooler on my truck for a few days here in South Florida sun and water bottles still cold and a little ice left.
Very informative!😲 I definitely want the BMX!
I own the RTIC 20 and the Engel 19. The Engel 19 is a great day cooler, but not much more beyond that. Engel does however make Rotomolded style coolers (which are called the deep blue series) and they are definitely comparable to the RTIC.
Conclusion buy the igloo , both coolers the same but rtic is built tougher and will last longer , only worth it when u get them on sale .
One advantage of the RTIC is that it has latches to put bear locks on, if you are going to be camping where there are bears. The Igloo BMX does not have those (but the Igloo IMX does, though it's a little more expensive)
Awesome video im glad you included the engel 19 I havent found an ice test video on a 19qt
ya should have put the ice in a spaghetti strainer so we can actually see who had more ice.
Thank you for this video, bro
I bought the Igloo for $57.53 on Amazon (8-17-20) and its doing pretty good I would say.
Same here!
I just bought it on Amazon (8-1-22) for $111.00 CAN ($86.00 USD)!!!
Two roto-molds against an ejection-mold. Two of which are overkill for your specific needs, good review thank you
Thx for reviewing. All models I was considering. It’s been hard to find ice capabilities of the Engels
