HR Repair
Добавлен 14 июн 2011
Hello everyone welcome to the channel! I grew up tinkering with things on a dairy farm and at age 10 my family left the Amish but continued to farm. I started to gain interest at that time in automotive and engine repairs. At age 16 I got my first job as a diesel mechanic and then I went through John Deere University where I got most of my training on diesels. I work on pretty much anything as you’ll see but I really enjoy working on diesels. Hopefully through my videos you can get some information that will help you work on your own vehicle!
Thanks for checking out the channel and hope to see you hang around!!

Umm is that lift safe😂😂
Hasn’t failed yet!😂
if i'm not mistaken... on that sparkplug... in the gap... somewhere in the center of that tiny piece of insulator ceramic... is supposed to be a piece of metal sticking UP? i think it's called... the central electrode? and the square looking piece of metal is the earth or ground electrode?? hmm! that... could be a problem? the central electrode has... melted? sometime? over time? :D :D mhmhmmm 'Elementary my dear Watson!' :D
You are 100% correct😂
@hrdiesel 🥳
You don't have to apologise ,,It's hard enough trying to work and recording everything for us plebs,,Great video,,great job,,keep em coming,,
I will in me browner,,
Cam sensor on Gen IV's ('07-up) is in the timing cover. Crank sensor is in the block above the starter.
Ouch
The 6.0 was an under powered, gas guzzler, but man it was reliable.
True! Dad has one with 400,000 miles and still going
This happened to my 2017 Acadia Denali back in 2021. It was the Memorial Day weekend and we headed to see the family 8hrs away. So not having any a/c for the majority of that trip sucked. I put a bandaid on the situation by disconnecting my battery for a couple mins. Everything went back to normal. But it would routinely malfunction, so I would just continuously disconnect the battery. Got back home and took it to the shop and they fixed it for a couple hundred dollars. Can’t remember what the exact problem was but it got fixed. It was really weird. I researched it and think I found the idea to disconnect the battery from Reddit. But I honestly don’t remember. I just thought it was crazy that a “steering issue” affected the a/c. FYI it was Mavis tires that fixed it issue as well. So I didn’t take it to a fancy mechanic, just the tire shop.
Doesn’t have to be a fancy mechanic as long as they know what they are doing
Cab off is definitely the way to go! Good job Ray! 👌🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
It makes the job so much easier and it goes faster!
Loe that he's still running that 6.9, but that poor old girl is about rusted to the ground!
F in junk !! Good short cut
It doesn’t need the glow pug relay to start if it is warm out. Mine wasn’t working for a few years, and the truck started up just fine, as long as it wasn’t cold out. If it was cold out, I would just plug in the block heater for a few hours, and it would start in the cold. I finally replaced my glow plug relay this year. By the way, the glow plugs draw around 90 to 100 amps when they work. I think you finally got enough oil pressure, and that is why it started, but I don’t know how cold it was there when you were working on it. Mine would start without the relay when it was around 50 degrees outside. Anything colder, and I would have to use the block heater. No problem starting in the cold now with the new glow plug relay.
Very helpful, thank you for posting!
If any glow plugs other than the Motorcraft 10.5 volt ZD29 are installed, they won't work. Take one glow plug out and connect it and ground the threaded end and turn on the ignition. If the glow plug glows bright, then perhaps there is air in the fuel system?
The old glow plugs I took out were aftermarket and they were all bad except for one. It’s been working great since the new ones were put in and the system is upgraded
Hook them up with a momentary old school starter button without the timer the timer stays on too long and too often what i used to do back in the day
If it was my truck I would’ve done that but this was a customer and this is what he requested
Key cycle 2 3x see if glow plugs need more heat
The glow plugs had completely left the chat. They had no resistance
change your glow plug controller
The glow plug controller on these trucks are notoriously unreliable
Try to retro fit 7.3 control i agree they are garbage.@@hrdiesel

Too many ad's
Those old 6.9's were great engines !
hey what version forscan u using? and is it the beta version current?
Whatever the latest version is, I’m not quite sure what that is, but I always updated to the latest version before I use it
Very helpful. Ty!
👍👍❤️❤️
I'm not a mechanic, that said, I have 1985 international Bluebird school Bus that has a 6.9 in it. Can you tell why it burns off a white cloud of smoke?? Thank you in advance
That’s a good question! Does it lose any antifreeze? My first thought would be antifreeze but it could also be injectors
White cloud when cold is usually leaky injector(s). White cloud when hot is usually injection pump. That's assuming it's a fuel issue, of course, and it's not eating any antifreeze or anything like that
2018 ecoboost, but engine made 2017 September.... worst year engine. My is the same just replaced....
Great video👍
Thanks!
What size is the oil drain opening in the back of the motor. I want to get a rubber plug to install after pulling the turbo. Then I can clean.
That’s actually a really good question. I have never put a plug in there. I’ve always used a blue shop towel
Quick test to check glow plugs, use a test light. Unplug all the glow plugs, put your test light clamp on battery positive terminal, then touch each glow plug with test light on the glow plug terminal. If test light lights, good…if it does not, it’s bad.
That’s a great idea! I never thought of doing it like that. That’s my go to in the future!
You're a few steps ahead of me
Check glow plug controller on back corner of intake on driver's side you'll lose a little anti freeze if you change it
My brother ran an early 80s IH diesel with glow plugs. I think he told me they were wired in series so if you lost one all the amperage was divided by the remainder of the glow plugs burning them up More quickly
Typically indirect injection engines have higher, not lower compression. And the glow plugs heat the air in the cylinder, not the fuel.
Direct switch to glow plugs light on dash count to 10 starts turn off.
That’s an option but the customer wanted it to be automatic.
Replacement timer but they were not tuned real well back then i always had problems when they were new 7,3 had a better timer setup that did not eat glow plugs. You can test glow plugs without removing by using a hot lead and power them one by one you will see current arc.@@hrdiesel
Burnt wiring is your problem….something is grounded wrong or shorted out.
The temp controller was shorted out and causing the glow plugs to stay on to long
Hey brother don't beat yourself up over technical boo-boos. Sometimes I lose videos and pics with no rhyme or reason. You put out some great content, and some of it is definitely helpful! For example, I own a 2023 Duramax, so the vid you filmed regarding an injector pig tail was very helpful! About the job, I cut my teeth on those 6.9/7.3s in the 80s and 90s. Loved those engines back in the day.
Awesome thanks for the feedback and watching the videos!
@hrdiesel you do great work sir. Mush respect- Rob from Pace, FL
So to take out your starter you have to disassemble the whole truck got it 👍
love it

Good luck on getting parts for that car since Mercedes in the past five years has started discontinuing all parts. If you do find parts they’re gonna be used or junkyard parts. You cannot get no more new parts. What parts are left that you do see online that are genuine Mercedes parts Through pelican parts is the last of what they have from Mercedes-Benz that are genuine parts. I currently have one I will be getting rid of the car. It is not worth all the money you’re gonna have to put into it to get it running right it’s 41 years old. Why in the hell I purchased the damn thing I was better off fixing my 2011 Jetta Volkswagen TDI. This thing is a astronomical waste of money of 41-year-old car and it is falling apart. It has a very good look to cosmetically, but underneath the hood every seal, everything is worn out because of the age it’s falling apart All of this hype on the Internet about how well built how reliable these cars are might be true if they weren’t 41 years old and you can’t find no damn parts for the w123 you cannot get a relay switch for the turn signals anymore. It’s been discontinued. 😂😂😂😂
😂😂
I really appreciate you making the video. I wish more technicians would explain stuff,, great job
Thanks!
And thats the exact blade the autozone personnel will sell the 80 yo lady without explaining a single thing (most likely the employee didnt know anything either) 😂
Oof!! I seen more bent rims being fixed though. You might still have a chance
Remember way back when in the early 2000s when you could just replace the rubber strip. Good times.
Yep, I remember those days!
To much weight on it
That’s because the rim is really bent
My 2010 silverado 1500 just started doing this last week. On cold mornings I get no radio sound and blinker sounds. Usually after 5 minutes the audio turns on. So mine may be on the way to going out. It works fine all the rest of the day but every cold morning it take about 5 minutes before sound starts working.
That's definitely a bent rim. Put that wheel in the trunk for a spare. And get a new one.
Two out of the four rims are bent on that car. I’m going to get all new rims and tires.
Proffessional strength !! Kroil !! No fing around !!
KROIL IS THEE BEST OF THE BEST !!!
Yep I was skeptical but darn that stuff is pretty impressive
I was really skeptical at first because of the price😂 but now I keep a case on hand
Thanks for the video, and being honest.
nice video, im confused did you do this without dropping the engine ?
Yes, I usually hold the engine up with the engine hoist. Then I remove the front motor mount and just work around everything
We spent Thanksgiving with Flu A. Still thankful for the time and family on this space rock. I lost an old friend to pneumonia this year. I don’t really know the details other than he was under the care of a county jail system. So he likely didn’t get the best care. 😢
There’s been a lot of Flu A going around unfortunately! Sorry to hear about your friend!
