nina/pinta replica coming down the ohio river south of marietta ohio. in front of the blennerhassett island
Looks like the exhaust pipe of my 52 Pontiac chieftain!
super sound! sounds like the engine is saying falafel!
My childhood in a nutshell. My Mother's Dad built these compresser stations from the ground up and my Dad worked as an operator until he retired in 2012. Sadly these compressor stations no longer exist. My playground. f
I know this is an old video but are these things still in service by any chance?
Sadly not, this was at Rockport compressor station in Wv, these three engines where removed sometime around 2014 and replaced with two Caterpillar compressor skids, there is one similar running in Kinzer PA at the Rough and Tumble Engineers museum.
@@andyreed8980 so if the engines were removed where did they go?
@@rodneyjweltham150 More than likely to scrap or torn down for parts. Not many places still use these engines and they were massive and hard to move. It would have been a very large undertaking to try and move one to a museum and even harder to take care of once it was there. Closest thing running is one half the size at the museum in PA.
I have a 20 hp Reid that was WILLED to me from my dear friend. He had it started once. We drove to Oil City Pa to pick it up. He paid some guy to drag it off the mountain for us. Disconnect the fly wheels and drug it up on trailer with come -a- longs and a winch. Drove back to 30 miles north of Cinn. Oh I put a full steel frame under it with a water tank and steel wheels off antique combine.. he painted it john deere green . I know the color isn't correct but he loved his JD tractors too. I hope to get it fired again. Sitting on my property now all covered up. I miss him.
What a super video...
Brought our 20hp reid from oil city just like that too. Now it got a full frame and axles under it
Awesome machines. They used to use similar engines to blow blast furnaces I believe. Burning furnace gas...is carbon monoxide.. And providing air at about 30 psi. Any idea what pressure these are working at
Rod, what happened to this engine since then?
Lovely lookin an soundin engine 👍
A finally, a reid that sound like my own, most you see people run them quiet, so it is nice to see one ran right. seem to be running slow though, mut mine is a 25HP version.
You got to love the Reid engine!
With the proper tool on the end of that rod there could be a happy women .😉
In one end and out the other
As great as restored engines and shows are, there still is nothing like an old engine up on a hill in its natural setting.
Do you have any other info about this engine? Or pictures? I have a parmaco hit and miss engine and just have some questions.
Got aboard Nina in port a few years ago. Well worth the visit. Very solid boat (at least back then), I wouldn't be afraid to cross the Atlantic with her.
The one that the guy was working on has really different valve gear. Was it older or newer? I wonder if it was designed to get around the Snow patents until they expired? See you in a few weeks!
Lovely sound.
I think he's just making mulch for his flowers. Cool old tool!
It sounds like a diesel...but then that's probably just the blades on the planer that make it sound like that.
is this for sale? if so give the price.
very nice engine and video!

Where is this?
Rockport WV
That's just down the road from where my sister lives...always wondered what it looked like inside there. Thanks!
Man that brings back some great memories from my youth! A former WV'ian, I grew up digging these things out of the hollers with my dad and uncle, restoring them, and showing them. Sadly, those days for us are long gone, though I do still have a little 2 stroke Maytag as a memento. Thanks so much for posting this.
exhaust pit
I wish I still had my old binders. Good old trucks. Whats the specs on this one?
Nice! What the pit for, at the end of the video?
That is music to my ears. Sweet nostalgic sounds of the American industrial revolution. Thank you.
