1:48 noticed the other day how, at the time, the Holbert Racing 962 did not have the usual opening on the nose for the tow hook-it was filled in. There appears to be vertical slot just behind it maybe for a retractable tow hook?

Stunning car... amazing to think it started as a 290MM, and then was brought on by the factory to a 335S. Trying to fathom some of these 1950's masterpieces isn't easy.

My abiding memory is of Patrick & Tony Pond hurling their Metro Turbos through the Silverstone Woodcote chicane in the 1983 Group A Touring Car support race for the British GP. I believe he still has a couple of these?

Excellent , I have got a 1957 TR3 . When I bought it in 1991 that too had been rolled . It finally hit the road in 2005 , and kept me sane during the lockdown . Great fun .

Chassis 0700? If so, I saw it back in the mid '80's in John Hunholz's garage. He shared with me the details of how he had acquired it, which I'd be happy to share if you (the owner?) are interested to hear.

AJ had never even sat in a 935 before this race. Not a smart- bordering on unprofessional move by the team to put a driver who is unfamiliar with the car in the middle of the damn race in the pouring rain- that's who Wollek was probably angry at. But AJ was superhuman, and put in an incredible effort.

Some European drivers,then and now,thumb their noses at oval track drivers.Well,I'm sure that Mr.Wollek was humbled after they won.

I was at Lime Rock in 1984. That was the year the 962 debuted. The year before he was racing in the CRC March-Porsche. Sarel Van Der Merwe won in 84 with the Kreepy Krauly March Porsche. Al won in 83.

You seem clued up on the man. Do you know what happened to Miss Alacrity after his death, I have been sort of trying to find out on the net but it's not come to much. I have an old 16mm film with what appears to be her on Windermere. Although I cannot date it exactly it has to be post 35 as there is a Morris 8 at the beginning of the film I think it has to be before WW2.

Sound on this is almost non existent. Shame.

And YOU dont know jack shit about Mr AJ Foyt! He one the one race you could never win-LeMans! He did it on his first try driving 2/3 of the race! Oh and he set the fastest lap of this Daytona 24hr in a fancy VW in the wet that he had NEVER driven before!

I remember watching this live on TV, I thought AJ went out and broke the lap record, but I doubt he would have done that in the rain... It's been a long time... but I do remember this indignant Frenchman RIP Bob.

Think you need to revise your BHP figure ? My tatty 1931 box saloon with 1inch SU carb, HC head, std cam and fitted Honda pistons produces 19.5bhp at 3500rpm on standard exhaust manifold.

I read about this in an article in an old Excellence Magazine. Foyt demonstrated he could climb into a car he'd never driven and finish to win an extremely difficult race. He was so big he literally had to be stuffed into the Porsche. I'm not certain who said this but "...after the 5th lap we could tell he was full-on it from the exhaust flame from turbo blow-off valve." (sic) Foyt is doubtless one of the greatest drivers in the history of racing, but his luster dulled a little for me after I learned he decided to protest the Interscope Porche entry into the 1980 Indy 500 at the last minute. Foyt "packed a lot of political weight" and he'd learned the Porsche's performance had proven it was extremely competitive. Despite Porsche's entry having been approved, Foyt's last-minute protest about the amount of boost the car was allowed to run made it impossible for Porsche to make necessary changes to compensate for lower boost on such short notice. Asshole.
