On the first clip you showed us. Is the best example,of why goalkeeper should not lean and react to the shot. He committed to his left and bearded off the balls trajectory
What are you guys thinking about this jumping style? I mean it is good for long range shoots because you have more power to jump, but on the other hand, I belive you have less time to react on close range situations. I wish to hear everybody's oppinions.
I think hopping is ok for short range. Yes there might be less time for the save, but you also need the legs to be ready. Another way could be similar to the outfielders “on the toes”, where they run (quick feet) on the spot. Emi Martinez is one that does this in his set position.
@@GoalkeepingSolutions OK, but with all due respect, I don't find Martinez as perfect example of goalkeeper tehnique. I mean, Neuer is probably the best ever, but he hops on lets say diagonal 1v1 situations and he can't handle that situations. Just look at game vs Barcelona where he didn't save the ball cause of the hop before shoot. I belive that staying ready on your toes is how goalkeepers should be positioned on close range shoots because thats how they/we are always ready. I belive that with jumping, we can be caught mid jump in the air.

@GoalkeepingSolutions i agree with u, btw could you study the style of play of using legs to stop lower balls ? I often see keepers conceding goals because they tried to dive and end up missing the ball (i remember of raya in this situation) when the quickest way to make the save is to extend the legs. And a video on ederson fascinating passing ability would be very appreciated, so interesting to understand how he master it

The biggest thing I think he needs to work on are his penalties. He dives way too early for how explosive he is and that was really exposed during the penalty shootout vs Man Utd.

There are a lot of keepers that have special techniques because of their physicality. You can look at the difference between De Gea (skinnier build) compared to Emi Martinez (bigger build)
@GoalkeepingSolutions Yes absolutely, speaking about de Gea his diving technique is also special in its own way I think. Because of that I used to think that he tries to make his saves more dramatical 😂

Hi everyone! Took a short break but I am back now. Videos should be coming out every week or alternate weeks now 🙏
I don’t think his set position is too wide, with the first goal he takes a step outwards with his right foot which makes it difficult to push of with the opposite leg while preforming the collapse dive, The 2nd goal his position is terrible which makes it almost impossible to save a shot at his near post and he also brings his push of leg inside instead of pushing of with it at the same place which again takes away from is push off power So i think his wide set position is good but what he does after his set position is wrong
Thanks for the comment. If I’m not mistaken. I think you are referring to the second and third goal. In the second goal, I agree with you that because he is still moving to the right, it is difficult to dive back to the left. I think the problem is that Onana is too wide, and so he cannot move either leg to dive powerfully, so he cannot reach those balls, or takes a long time to react because he has to sort his legs out. The wide set position is really debated whether it is good or not. I guess there is no wrong answer, but the main thing is how fast you are. Most keepers are not as wide as Onana, but their set position is still slightly wider than their shoulder width. Pickford is another that likes to use a wide stance, and he is able to push off fast and powerful. But this is because he takes a shuffle step before diving, hence he legs actually come together before pushing off. Contrary to Onana, who does not take this extra step. Ter Stegen is also someone who uses the wide stance. However, his one legged push off is very powerful, and his reaction speed is amazing, so he can get away with not taking that extra step. Someone who uses the narrow stance is Raya, and when he dives, he makes many steps before diving.
