Colorful Leaves Whirling in the Wind - Capturing the Motion Blur
Long exposure photography allowed me to take a pause and appreciate the freshness of the breeze, the incredible beauty of the fluttering leaves, and the ever-changing motion of water.
Being among mother nature is a completely therapeutic experience. For that I am immensely grateful and mindful that we all owe it to her to be respectful and keep the land clean.

Photography Influencers can Unintentionally Stifle You
Просмотров 12214 дней назад
Join me on a peaceful afternoon hike where I pause at a serene pond to capture its beautiful reflections. Then dive into a discussion about the current photography trends and the influence of social media on our creative journeys. I’ll share my thoughts on the pitfalls of following trends too closely, how influencers can unintentionally stifle your originality, and offer you some tips on how to...
Wave Photography at the Scenic Sonoma Coast
Просмотров 1802 месяца назад
In this episode from the end of 2023, I am on the northern California coast during a storm, photographing the big ocean waves. I use different shutter speeds for different results, and try different perspectives from high above and down at sea level. If you do like the video, I'd be very delighted that you let me know with a fave or a comment. =) I wish you all well.
A Second Chance to Improve my Composition
Просмотров 2022 месяца назад
I made a terrible beginner's mistake. I returned to the same place to redo correctly a panorama that I had screwed up a few days earlier. Being meticulous and patient with the multiple compositions are key factors to stitching a panoramic image properly, and this time I got it right. This video is from a hike I did in spring 2023 in a local nature park in Sonoma County, northern California.
Unusual Long Exposure Self-Portraits in a Lake
Просмотров 1023 месяца назад
Long exposure photography can be used to smooth out moving water or for light trails of moving cars and star trails in night photography. But it can also be used with people and animals effectively and creatively. Here, I wanted to create surreal and ghostly images by going into a lake and moving around during the long exposure. The audio is not great due to some wind noise. But I am happy with...
Steep Hood Mountain Hike on a Rainy Day in Sonoma County
Просмотров 1393 месяца назад
In this video, I embark on a steep and intense hike through some of Sonoma County's picturesque mountains. Although part of the area was devastated by a wildfire, nature is coming back in full force. The passing storm with clouds and rain chasing me created moody conditions great for photography.
Blown Away by the Incredible Anza-Borrego SUPERBLOOM 2024
Просмотров 3374 месяца назад
Join me on my mad rush to see and photograph the 2024 desert superbloom in California. A late March weekend was my best opportunity to see the super bloom in the California desert before it was gone. It was tiresome as I spent much of the time driving. I tried to fit in both Carrizo Plain which is midway between San Francisco and LA, and Anza-Borrego farther south and east of San Diego. But it ...
Stormy Day and Wild Waves at the Sonoma Coast

Enjoy the silent footage, save for the sounds of the elements, and some of my favorite photos of this power storm on the California coast. I did not do a video log nor use the tripod due to the severe conditions.
Armstrong Redwoods walk in the Rain - Incredible Colorful Pools

Seeking to catch the mineral puddles that form after prolonged heavy rains in the redwoods, I managed to get some nice photos with stunning colors and even neat reflections. Primary photography camera: Sony a7Riii. Lens used here: Tamron 28-200mm.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on photography, Alex! I totally agree with you; especially as a beginner one tends to be influenced by others. For me the hard work is to find out about my own style, and that takes time, patience and learning to think “outside the box”. Just as you suggest - great!!

And it's okay to be influenced and inspired. We just need to be aware of our situation and style. Thank you so much for watching, Monika. Hopefully, the next video will be a lighter topic.

Great topics discussed Alex. I agree with you that there's way too much gear obsession on YT these days. I really try to limit any discussions of it when I make a video anymore, even though they're by far the highest-traffic ones. And the more someone progresses in their experience, the less rules matter :)

I LOVED the images with the newly flower covered ground. That was amazing to see. Regarding the "pigmy forest" , a huge area of Hood Mtn. was covered naturally with Manzanita trees (which are small). Manzanita wood burns hot and fast, so when the 2017 fire hit, the mountain was one big kindling patch a blaze.

It sounds terrifying, I can't even imagine what inferno it must have been up close. And wasn't there a 2020 fire that overlapped the area, maybe the Glass Fire? Thanks for the info, Mark!
