Hey guys, Im Benny and i do things, mainly involving Cars and 4wds. I have plenty of projects and vehicles that i work on, so i thought why not share that with you all. Join me as i get my hands dirty wrenching, offroading, and just having a good time while doing it !
Moving the HQ Holden and assessing rust
This ones just a quick update video, basically just moving the car under cover and then looking at where its rusty, due to being flat out i haven't had a proper chance to actually pull the car down and get started on repairs

After 5 years of daily driving, wheeling and some hard yakka the diff finally let go, after a couple of weeks i eventually get a new diff and replace it.

Memories. My first car was an HQ Wagon: 202 and three on the tree, so I could get practice in driving a manual. So much time has passed. The HQ was only 10 years old, at the time. Nowadays ,my FG mk2 Falcon is more than 10 years old.
Hey mate. I have just started a channel also. Good to see some more Aussie content coming from you, hope you’re able to stick with the wagon and see it through. I’ve learned something from your channel already. Time to stop messing around with my less desirable cars whilst I get the hang of the RUclips stuff and just come in with the heavier hitters. Keep it up mate.
Thanks, I'm hoping once I pull all the interior out I can find all the rust that's in it, to be fair if it's far far gone, what's to say I can't just ladder bar the frame and just throw a big v8 in it for powercruise events 🤷

Thanks for doing the videos They are hard to produce on top of a build I wish you well. How far do you go where do you stop That's probably your first point of call. Work out a buid plan then work out the parts list and time , then triple it Cheers Dave

Carby is sucking tones of air and maybe slightly liw idle thats why its stalling out. They run better with filter on to restrict it right
That and it had a leak from the hose that goes to the brake booster, lots of things to replace 😅
I reckon it's to far gone unfortunately but that's just my opinion some my disagree.
You can still find better cars. Id as least find another shell and swap what you can over
G'day mate, you should try to get a another HQ Holden wagon. It could be too expensive to fix up due to the rust but anything is possible. Good luck with the HQ wagon project. Just do what you can afford, mate....😊😊😊
Sorry mate, I didn’t realise how much rust was in it. I revoke my comment about doing the suspension and brakes. Unless you have a good mate that does body work or you’re handy yourself, I’d say don’t bother fixing it. It’ll take its toll financially and will most likely be a burden on the family. Might be best off getting another H-series with a good body and using the HQ for parts
Buying the replacement panels wouldn't be an issue as I'm a qualified welder/fabricator, we knew it was pretty ordinary rust wise but being straight is what got me
@@bennydoesthings that’s awesome then, yeah I was mainly thinking of the welding and bodywork side of it because as you know the price is through the roof. I didn’t realise you were a fabricator. You’d be able to restore the thing then. I’m glad you’re trying to bring the car back, hopefully it doesn’t throw you too many curveballs, you should be right though. I revoke my revokement lol.
Everyone loves a Q.. can't go wrong fixing it either way...if it's slow and steady or fast with all the parts ..be awesome to see done right.
It's probably best to rebuild it.
The motor? Nah, it's going to be a Sunday cruiser, so if it doesn't use oil or have metal shavings in the filter it'll be fine 👌

Once it had fuel it just wanted to keep going, I was surprised at how smooth it runs
You can’t beat 12 slotters wheels whether they’re on a Holden or a Ford and that patina you can’t replicate that very hard to that’s awesome
I'm hoping I don't lose too much of the patina when I start cutting rust out

That SCA ATF is like paint stripper. The old 3 speed Traumatic, can't kill 'em with an axe.

For sitting so long it runs so well! I had an old hj Ute years ago and it had a 202, was the most reliable ol car I'd had

I got a HJ 1 tonner sitting around for about 10 years. This video gives me hope.
Even if you chip away at it bit by bit you'll feel accomplished after seeing the progress you can make 💪
If I had been made aware of the rust traps at the bottom of doors and the bulkheads under the dash I would have regularly cleaned them out and maybe given them some anti-rust treatment. The bulkheads fill with leaves and dirt and end up as a mini composting enclosure. The leaking bulkheads result in the floor pans rusting away. One thing leads to another.
Adjust the lifters if they don't shut up after a while. They are really in need of adjustment.
To be honest, it probably needs an an oil flush and change

Ford Ya nong how could you want to do up a HQ and use ford wheels to move it and wonder why they don't fit, but good luck with getting it fixed up

I love that you read my comment about the 12 slotters and totally ignored my disgust 😂 You went ahead and doubled down and it bit you in the ass 😅 I don’t hate them outright, they look decent on some old Fords. I thought Center Line stopped making Convo Pros but it turns out they released a 2.0 version. I’m a fan of Convo Pros so you have redeemed yourself with that remark. Haha I bought them as they were literally the cheapest wheels within a 200km radius of my area 😅 Convo pros are definitely on the shopping list, but they are wayyy down that list as the poor girl needs a fair bit of rust repair first 👌

good to see again under the bonnet of my first ever car all those decades ago, remembered very little of it despite 2 engin replacements me and mates completed. So simple. Want such things back.
Nowadays you just plug a computer into your car to see what's wrong with it, not like these old buggers, only two things can go wrong either it has no fuel, or it's got no spark 😅
