@@grimwoodfix Lol, reminds me of when I used a butane stove to replace my fat PS3 RSX chip to 45nm. Still working till this day! Just make sure to bake for at least 24 hours to prevent popcorn. Buying a $1000> rework station didn't made sense when I had a used free oven/stove handy LOL! Surprised no one on youtube show this method yet.
Really enjoy the videos. Wish they were longer. However, you cover all the necessary details. Your recordings are always good and straight to the point.
Hi, Do you ever get the board 'popcorning' problem, where moisture trapped between board layers warps it after being heated? Or is that more of an older board issue..
@@ffftube-le8np generally not on a really thick board. More likely to see see on thinner boards.
You gotta love those 40 screws on that plate
@@Lazyman1975 it's the oxidation cleanup and liquid metal re-spread that I feel like slows things down the most.
"If you are a do it youreselfer then good luck for ya." That was priceless. I always enjoy your videos. Keep them coming buddy.
My extremely well looked after oled switch that i barely even swap cartridges on and has never seen the hands of a child, stopped working a few days ago. No bent pins or anything and its intermittent. Doesnt matter what cartridges i use, its definitely the slot. I gave it a gentle one finger knock like as if knocking on someone's door, and now it works more often than not. Wondering if its just a plug thats not fully connected? I dont think it would be the slot itself, theres not a sceric of dust and ive played mostly tears of the kingdom and breath of the wild. I tend to play one game start to finish and just leave it inserted, so essentially the cartridge reader stopped working while the game was still inserted from the last time it was played. Do you think its at all likely that its the connections between the board and the motherboard that have come loose or something? Its 3 months out of warranty unfortunately.
@@lexicase8805 that's frustrating for sure. You can order the entire cartridge reader board and just replace it. Super easy to replace. I doubt it's a connection problem with that board connecting to the motherboard, because it's a good connector that is also held down with screws. If you aren't comfortable doing your own repair work, you can mail it to our shop and we will happily fix it for you.
Bro awesome Vid!!! So, I know my stuff. 5 years exp. 1st series X and the glue dot is what got me. As soon as you said "glue dot" I knew exactly what to do. Crazy I didn't think of this. haha Thanks brother! #FluxSquad P.s. I love... absolutely LOVE that shirt!
@@ytmaxxammo8591 that dang glue dot. I always pick it off. I've seen others leave it, but I think it gets in the way of the replacement port seating properly.

Nice!
3:51 At least show us before and after lol, you got a microscope right there.
I did not expect to see the owner of my local game shop on the front page of my RUclips recommendations. Nice!
Small world, isn't it?
Crazy thing is this entire fiasco could have been saved for $0.17 per stick for an actual sensor rather than flakey conductive ink that wipes off in 5 minutes and drifts when it even registers a position. How much money have they lost over this I wonder.
yea id screw this up somehow if i tried, i got 3 drifting xbox x controllers ive bought in the past 2 years, just unbelievable they make this junk. and microsoft wonders why they cant touch sony, they cant even make a controller that works longer than a year
@@Mattmusic1025 we do just as many PS5 controllers as Xbox. They are built with the same parts.
@ interesting…well shame on both of them for using those parts. Just blows my mind I’ve been playing video games for over 30 years and I got more broken Xbox controllers combine then all my other systems controllers
@@Mattmusic1025 older systems and games utilized a broader and therefore more forgiving dead zone. What I mean by that, is that on Xbox 360, the sticks could be off center by as much as 25% and it wouldn't affect game play. On Xbox One, to offer more precise movements, the dead zone was tightened to under 10%. This is to say that wear and tear could be the same on both controllers, but you'd notice it sooner on the newer controllers. That all said, the defect shown in this video isn't wear and tear, it's a crappy part that defects. And we see it all the time on Xbox and PlayStation controllers where the sticks are going 100% in a direction without being touched. For that matter, I agree with you. Because we see them like that all the time.
@ makes sense, thanks for the insights
@@grimwoodfix both companies are addicted to saving $0.34 per system and then paying 39 million in warranty repair claims rather than actually saving money.
great video , one of the fastest stick replacement ive seen , arnt the xbox one pas supposed to use hall effect sensors that are supposed to never go bad ?
@@MrFixiit hall sticks certainly can last longer without defect. They still wear out like any stick though. The sensors are different, but the sticks are plastic like any of them and will wear out. Hall sensors aren't a new technology, the early PS3 controllers used them, we replace them all the time.
@@grimwoodfix ahh ok i thought hall sensors were purely electronic unlike the magnetic resistance potentiomiter style of sticks
@@MrFixiit currently the hall sticks are only available as an aftermarket install. They are fairly new to market, and I've seen lots of techs experience compatibility and calibration difficulties. Time will tell how quickly they wear out.
Cab you sinl the soldering machine you use ?
do you replace them with hall effect sensors if so where do you source them from
Great video as always.
man when you got that much experience, makes it look like a breeze.

Was looking for an easy way to remove the connector with a soldering iron... Now I've found it. Awesome, thanks for the video!
9 months???? HELL NO. Tell them they don't have lifetime warranty
It deff not the fan , if there anything else you can do to make quiet then yet try to fix it but if only option is another new fan then I don’t think so , only way I’d say to replace fan is if they said it was fixed and then crapped bed again cus it is possible first fan broke and the new one you put was faulty and had problem quick
The customer is the problem, not the fans
It is probably thermal throttling when playing specific game and then the fan spins faster than normal. Maybe it’s not a fan issue.
@@ConfuseMedia that thought crossed my mind. When it was initially brought in, they wanted the fan replaced because they didn't like the sound coming off if, and replacing it made them happy for 9 months.
Bonjour tout ceci pour quel utilité ?? Je comprend pas c'est soudure ? Cdlt
thankyou. very helpful
Holy crap i never got this issue in for repair until earlier today! This is the ONLY source that replicated the same exact problem my customers' console was having. Took the same component from a donor board, and it worked! Thank you so much! How did you even pinpoint that fault??
Oh nice. Another channel destined for greatness. Buckle up friend.

I need this exact fix on my edge. How can I reach you? I’ve looked everywhere
@@JackChevalier-xu1hk GrimwoodFix@gmail.com
just wanted to let u know even tho u probably wont look at this, when an xbox one of any gen may also be the x/s to idk but the splash not showing is one of three problems, 1 moniter/tv is blanking cuz of resolution, 2 and update failed on said console causing the splash not to install properly or 3 the hdd/ssd has ben replaced or upgraded improperly being the person that did it forgot the splash file
My experience is that any time I replace the hard drive, the splash is gone until the next Xbox update. I think it's weird that is the case when the OS1 file comes directly from Microsoft's website.
Have you done this with a USB-C port on a cellphone? This would increase the life of my phone by 2 years! Nice video...

Great fix once again. Good job.
Great video! I was trying to find infos regarding the 19 pins situation and it's perfect! Thank you sir!!
This is pretty much prototype.
TRy this when the disk go in force it little faster in
I'm really curious to see if that card slot stays mounted to the board or if that was just where they were at during prototyping for whatever reason
Interesting outlook. My experience with prototype gaming hardware is that it ends up pretty close to the production hardware. They have to design an this stuff before making it, I'm not sure it's practical to design a proto differently.
Curious if those Thompsons have a lazer adjustment pot? If it has one then it may need a little tweaking.
True. I always consider a tweak a last resort. This one may just need a tiny adjustment.
Finally replaced my DS lite shoulder button today. For those watching who don't have a (precise enough) soldering iron, dont worry. You have 2 options: 1) Take the original button apart and replace the contact inside with the one from the new button. There's another video on here with a lot of views where the guy basically does this, though he just cleans the original contact rather than replacing it with a new one. 2) Simply glue on the new button using gorilla glue instead of soldering it. This is actually how the original button seems to be attached - using an adhesive rather than solder. Use gorilla glue as I doubt superglue would be strong enough. This is what I did as the original button was coming off - otherwise, just use the first method. Hope this helps!
@@lowkeykenobi5039 solder cannot be substituted with glue. The original part is soldered on, and replacements need to be soldered on as well.
Hello mate, ive got the one under next to the battery connector not showing current. Is this norm.

Does the board ever blister from the hot air.
@@Sctronic209 you'd have to have the hot air on there for a very long time for that to happen. These boards are very thick.
