❤
Wow, that was really good! Calmed my mind and brought me back to the present moment and my body. Thank you for making this video! ❤❤
So happy to hear that!
Thank you 🙏 ❤
Wow! This was wonderful. Thank you. I feel so much better. I am looking forward to adding this into my toolkit.
Happy this was helpful, Emily!
Yay! Adore Nichola ❤ Her story is quite similar to mine and I've always loved hearing her perspective on life and advice for HSPs and neurodivergence. ☺️
She is lovely, isn’t she!? So happy you could relate to her story. 💜
I have learned so much from your Self-care course ❤ - but I am still learning! I need at least 3 free days each week! One at the weekend and two during the week! This is because I have my work at home grooming dogs for other people - but I also have my own dogs since I am a breeder! This means that I have work 24/7 and it takes planning to get the balance right!
Working at home and having multiple roles takes a balance, for sure! I hope you can make it work to get those days you need. 💜 Also, so happy to hear the Sensitive Self-Care course has been helpful!
@ It takes a lot of planning but I’m getting there! Some weeks are great and after some week I need to think ”where did I go wrong - how can I plan this in another way”?! 🥰
I continue to be amazed there’s people out there struggling with exactly the same issues I struggle with 🥹! I cannot tell you how comforting that is and I am hanging every resonating word ❤️! I know this one day off system is essential for me . I’m just having trouble implementing it . I hate being the problem in the schedule but I know having meltdowns through the week is not productive or helpful to any one !! I don’t see weekends ever working for me, so I’m thinking of trying Wednesdays! 🤪
You have brought into my life so much self awareness and acceptance. I feel so much connection, listening to your podcast, Sensitive Stories. Many many thanks to you from the bottom of my sensitive heart all the way to yours❤️
I feel it, thank you 💜🥹
That’s why I have felt SO tired coming back from our vacation with hot days, Sun and a Warm sea! I just couldn’t figure out why I felt so fatigued the first two weeks home in grey dark days and cold temperatures - but now I do! 😮Strength has been coming back slowly when I slowed my schedule down!! ❤
Oh yes, no wonder you’re tired. That’s such a big adjustment! Hope you can be gentle with yourself.
Another excellent episode. I really appreciated hearing from a male. Thank you so much for taking the time to put these pods out for us.
So happy to hear you enjoyed this episode! Tom is such a delight and so knowledgeable about sensitivity. 💜 We’ll have another episode with a HSM next month as well.
I loved the conversation today and I can relate so much with using music from chanting to humming/singing along to moving with or just having it as a pick me up while doing other things like cooking. I also have used it to paint to or write to which has so many benefits. Thanks again for all your great interviews.
Music is such a beautiful resource! So happy you enjoyed my conversation with Maya. And thank you for bringing in chanting - one of my favorite practices and so soothing. 💜
Thank you so much for this podcast.
You’re so welcome! 💜
Thanks, that was calming! I've tried various breathing exercises and rotate them so that they're more effective. HRV (Heartrate Variability) Breathing for 10 minutes, 5 breaths/minute, is really effective and they have several versions on RUclips. Also humming stimulates the vagal nerve through vibrations that resonate in the skull. You lightly touch your tongue to your upper palate, slightly purse your lips, and hum for as long as you comfortably can. It's similar to Om, but this is even more effective. I've found that I can stop a panic attack, or even a mild headache, as well as stimulate the parasympathetic response. I'll hum for at least 5-10 minutes, while 15-30 minutes is really calming.
Very smart to rotate breathing exercises, Jenny! Humming is one of my favorite resources as well. I haven't used it for extended periods as you're mentioning, I'll have to give that a try!
Sometimes I want to say "Stop the world, I want to get off!" the title of a play I saw many years ago. I've learned to pace myself with the news by logging off my laptop, taking neighborhood walks, gardening, reading, meditating, etc. Also to remember that, no matter how bad it looks, the future isn't actually written yet! I used to becoming overstimulated and overwhelmed, with subsequent meltdowns, but I rarely do this anymore.
So important to take those breaks for tactile experiences! I appreciate the reminder that "the future isn't actually written yet". Love that!
That was certainly serendipitous how you accidentally discovered Dr. Elaine Aron's Workshop. It was meant to be! My therapist years ago felt I might be HSP and told me about "The Highly Sensitive Book", which really resonated with me too. I've read all her books plus listened to her many podcast interviews over the years. I recently saw Jenara Nerenberg's "Divergent Mind: Thriving in a World That Wasn't Design for You", which is another enlightening book. It's a "paradigm-shifting study of neurodivergent women" who range from HSP, ADHD, autism, synesthesia, to SPD, and how architects are designing work spaces and schoolrooms that accomodate neurodivergents' sensitivities.
Your videos are so informative for me as an HSP.. thank you for being an HSP's true voice ❤❤❤
I’m so happy to hear these videos are resonating for you! And thank you for your kind words. 🥹💜
How much does the online group cost?
It’s $399 for 8 groups (payment plans available). You can find out more here: www.elizabethcushcoaching.com/hsp-group-coaching-for-women
@@sensitivestrengths thank you for the info . Guess I can’t afford to be sensitive.
I loved doing this exercise with you ❤.. thanks..it was needed ☺️🙏
Thanks for practicing with me! Hopefully it helped you feel a little more calm. 💜
Days before a full moon …extreme , extreme swings… i no longer have a cycle … the only way I picked up on it was journaling years ago, I saw a huge difference in the moods and exhaustion
Full moons can be intense, especially when you're more attuned! It definitely helps to find ways to notice those cycles. Journaling is a big resource for me too.
I have been facing the same with full moon time but sometimes it happens only with new moon time. It is really exhausting..i will try journaling...
@@ilianaparaskevopoulou3621 it is literally the only way I noticed what was going on. I just thought I was grouchy for a few days , then I would be fine. I started researching the full moon connection. It is WILD. Werewolf , periods, cycles, harvest, the word “ LUNATIC”= LUNAR….ceremonial, the fact that our bodies react to the tides & sky is amazing. I work in the service industry… I can tell immediately by peoples attitudes if there is a full moon … the aggressive energy is palpable . When I was 18 I was in a cab, hotter then hell, the cab driver told me abt the moon… I’ve never forgotten that talk.. I’m 44 now. Everything he told me has proven to be factual, I just never put the puzzle together until the last few years writing
thank you 🙏❤
You're very welcome! 💜
I'm happy and calm when fall and winter approach. When summer comes, I get depressed.
I'm not aloooone with thaaaat, that feels good to know, no one understands it
Summer can be really intense and overstimulating. Fall and winter are so much more soothing.
Definitely not alone! 💜
the other day i said to a friend, i just want to press the pause button on the world, until i have recharged and am ready to go on with life.
Oh my, yes!! I've said the same thing. If only we could just press pause and catch up with everything we're feeling, noticing, taking in.
I just texted my mom yesterday and said I wish the world would take a breath and slow down! There is Christmas stuff in stores already and Christmas adverts on the radio and it just feels like a constantly rotating cycle like being on a wash cycle and I just want everything to slow down!
It’s a lot to take in, with no breaks in between! I went to a craft store this weekend and the Halloween and Christmas items were mixed together! Would be lovely to focus on one holiday at a time!
😌
thank you for this video :)
You're so welcome, Michael!

@@sensitivestrengths Thank you 😊
I listened to this conversation on the Sensitive Strength website .The validation in hearing our shared experience of trying to make socializing work just warmed my heart! I think its confusing as a child when you are both interested in people but want them to go away and not engage you, at the same time. All the details of Ibinye's journey are just so familiar. Her confidence in navigating socializing made me feel that I am on the right track for finding a way that is better than totally isolating and that I can learn to be confident in expressing my needs in this arena so its not such a huge weighted stressor. The nightmare of surprise parties and having to scope out a restaurant like the secret service had me laughing out loud in my kitchen! I can do whatever I want to do how I want to do them!
The push-pull of wanting deep connection but also being easily overstimulated is tough to navigate when you’re younger. Love that you’re giving yourself permission to do what you want!
'That hurt me, we don't allow people to hurt us just because we think it's unkind to set a boundary' This is so powerful! I always saw myself as super sensitive, now that I've realized that I REALLY am a HSP I'm finally able to start understanding my needs, boundaries and ways of seeking peace. I relate so much to Ibinye's narrative and experiences. Thank you for these beautiful words and reflections. I appreciate a lot the work you put on helping others through your YT videos. Have a wonderful week ahead!
Realizing you’re an HSP really does change so much! So happy to hear you’re starting to understand and care for yourself more. 💜
“ You can do whatever you want to do; you just have to figure out the how. You can be loud; you can be quiet; you can be ambitious; you can take one thing at a time; you can move slowly; you can move quickly. You just have to figure out what this HSP thing is for you - and just figure out how to move through it - and you can accomplish things however you want.” Beautifully said. Thank you!
So happy this resonated! Ibi shared so many gems in this conversation! 💜
detach from obligation. perfect
This was such a great video. Exactly what I needed to hear today.
So happy this one resonated for you 💜
I hope this video finds many viewers... what a simple yet effective tool!❤
Glad it was helpful!
You have a very soothing way of presenting things. Thank you for this. 😊
Happy to hear this was soothing! 💜
Thank you for this. HSP awareness is so crucial, and watching your videos has helped me realize that my struggles could have been largely prevented if I, and just as importantly those close to me, had had good information and support. The challenges HSPs face can lead to feelings of inferiority, isolation, resentment, hopelessness, feeling misunderstood. For me, this has led to anxiety and depression, and your kind and clear motivation to help is really appreciated. It helps me feel validated and empowered, and I really appreciate your work.
You’re so right - knowing about high sensitivity earlier in life can help so much. Instead of thinking we have a deficit or need to change, we can work with our sensitive needs. I’m so happy to hear my videos are resonating for you, thanks for watching! 💜
Amazing ✨Thank you for sharing ❤
You’re so welcome! 💜
Thanks for the great clip! Very good advice and info and I'm glad there's a channel for people like this. HSP's are a small part of the general population so its difficult to find like-minded people such as myself. I identify as an HSP as well as Myers Briggs INFJ, so the world feels very overwhelming and lonely at times.
Fellow INFJ/HSP here. It can be tough to find community for sure. Thankfully we can connect online in these small ways to remember that we’re not alone. 💜
@@sensitivestrengths Well lovely to meet you in that case! I agree, thankfully we have the online means to connect to find our tribes ;-)
Will be thinking about this
HSM here. I really enjoy your interviews. Thanks very much.
Thanks so much for watching! Always happy to see HSMs here.
I SO relate to looking back at my life, all the way to child hood, seeing how I was using so many behaviors to manage my sensitivity without knowing why I needed to do these things . Feeling weird and guilty for needing to do everything differently. My body was screaming for help! I’m sad that my little self’s needs were never validated or fully met and grieve the confidence I could have had in my uniqueness had I know I was a HSP and what that meant. Melissa’s story of insisting on living her true self life is so hopeful even with the inevitable messiness ! I hope I can get to a point where I use all the language I now have to verbalize what I need and why so articulately !
It’s so hard to look back at what could have been, if only you knew this crucial piece about yourself. I also hope you can find your voice and give yourself what you need now. It’s never too late. 💜
Thanks
Very helpful. Thanks.
Thank you! L
I never knew there was a term for someone like me. Thank you. Highly sensitive person. This is me! Keep doin what you're doin ladies.
Welcome to the HSP club! 💜
Help!!! I hate living with a loud and abrasive in-law, but due to a lifelong struggle with paralyzing fear and self-doubt, I never trusted myself to live completely on my own. I'm in my 60s and currently in therapy, but I'm having a terrible time moving on with life.
This sounds really difficult, Angela. I would hate that too. I would say it’s best to process this with your therapist.
This has been fantastic advice! You make it so easy to relate to, and the examples are very tangible/practical. Thank you April :) As always
You’re so welcome! Happy to hear this was helpful. 💜
What's that lamp behind you? I like how it looks and its gentle orange light is calming. Could you share the link to smth similar? The technique is helpful, thank you.
That’s a salt lamp: himalayantradingco.com/ It’s very calming.
@@sensitivestrengths thanks
We're both working from home, and I find it really hard to explain to my husband why I need alone time. Also, he hates being outside our home, so I have to get creative and find ways to unwind in his presence. It's hard because, for example, I can never let myself cry in his presence or show any emotions. A hotel room is great, but alone time at home is the most valuable.
Never having any alone time is really challenging. Is there a car, garage, library, park, or somewhere else close by that you could find some refuge?
@@sensitivestrengths i have some favourite places where i can be in peace and quiet but the safest place is home for sure. And at home I have my fluffy lovely daughter - my cat 😺 ❤️. The problem is I can feel at my best when i'm home alone (only one cat can stay with me😊)
There’s definitely nothing like being home alone. I hope you can find a compromise with your husband so you both get your needs met some of the time. 💜
@@sensitivestrengthsThank you! Your wife must be very happy to have you as a partner by her side. You seem so wise and understanding.
YES .. there’s so many details and things going on in transitions especially if other people are involved , it just seems like a huge undertaking . I’m anxious and overwhelmed thinking about it. I’m always the LAST one 😭 which is crazy as while I’m at work or a class or home I’m so attentive to to so many things
It’s true, there are sooo many details to consider! This is why we really need to slow down and do less as much as possible. 💜
