After your app is deployed and connected to your domain (as show in the video), then you send a fetch request to the route that you should have already set up. For example const response = await fetch(`yourdomain.com/route`, { method: "POST", headers: {"Content-Type" : "application/json"}, body: formData })

Yes, you don't need cPanel to install node.js. There should be other tutorials online for that setup.

Yes, because it connects remotely via the domain... so it also works when running the backend in "dev" mode (ie via my PC)

Yes, this backend is created with the same setup. If you go through the video, you'll see that your hosting company needs to open a port for MongoDB to work. The hosting company I went with has opened it. But some people say that their hosting company refused to open the port. So get the port number and ask your hosting provider. If you want to install MongoDB, then yes you need a VPS. But here you only need to open the port to access MongoDB.

I am not familiar with this error. Did you follow all the steps in the video with the test app provided in the git repository? Does the app work in your local test environment?

If your hosting provider opens the port (as mentioned in the tutorial), then yes. That is the set up that I used with my hosting company.

First, check that your app is running. I check my backend routes while still in dev environment. And I haven't faced any issues deploying live. I have a link to test app in the comments if you need more troubleshooting.

Ok, you'll need to troubleshoot through it. Does you connection work from your local environment? Did you follow all the steps in the tutorial including requesting the port to be opened.

Does your VPS hosting company provide cPanel? In a VPS you normally need purchase it. In the even you have purchased VPS with a cPanel account, then your hosting company may need to install the cPanel on your VPS first. After installation they provide you with a link to cPanel's WHM to login with your account password.

@@peta-stewart have solved the problem already. The problem was bcrypt but I change it to bcryptjs

I used MongoDB Atlas which is hosted via AWS (They have a free tier) . As yet cPanel doesn't really support the paid version of MongoDB to be installed. I believe you can do it though.

That was the reason I mentioned you need to make sure the port was open your mongoDB can connect.

Did you go through this tutorial step by step. There seems to be some issues with regard to app module. This tutorial show the work arounds.

You need to make sure that your provider supplies the module (if you are on a shared server). If you are on VPS you will need to install the module yourself.

You need to do that manually.

Sure. SUBDOMAIN: My project is an SPA frontend with a Backend server (CSR client side rendering for my frontend). So I need to have 2 domains. So my frontend is on the main domain and the backend is on the subdomain (so I don't need to purchase another domain). If you are running an app with SSR (Server side rendering), then you wouldn't need 2 domains as it is your server delivering the content. NEW DIRECTORY: If you are referring to the new directory to host the app (as opposed to the subdomain directory), I am not sure exactly but it is required and has something to do with the structure of how the app gets created. If you don't use a second directory it will cause issues later maintaining it.

Thanks for the response! Do you use your `public_html` directory at all? Your main domain (from this video) is "hashtag-me2" and the document root is the public_html directory. The steps you took to create the front-end uses the "hashtag-metoo" (sub?)domain and the document root is the hashmain directory

@@JPJelly Very observative : ) It was originally a bit of a mistake like the tips in this video. I purchased "hashtag-metoo" from another hosting company but they didn't provide the setup nodejs module. So I had to switch companies. Which is why I decided to make the video, so I could prevent others from my pain and agony : )

No, I am not sure if express has updated but it wasn't supported when I initially created the app.
