Was he ok???
@@spider-capgaming1487 Yes. It actually was a near miss right above the crotch. He was also wearing a cup.
Flicks do not win a duel. Those SCA tricks are not dueling. Unless the blade flexes, you did not get anything that matters.
Okay bro what's your hema rating? /j
To fatally wound a person, your blade only needs to go into them about 4 inches to pierce any internal organ that they have. Blade flex is a show of stopping power, but not necessary to wound someone. If you do the action safely, it doesn't matter if you don't get that signature blade flex.
@@swordfightingguild - I am one of the guys who taught the HEMA crowd, in the 90s. "They all fight like gentlemen until they start losing." HEMA is a sport not dueling.
@@swordfightingguild - BTW - I have plenty of flick marks, some needed stitches, but they never stopped me ever.
@@rogereppich245 In any case, here at UTD we generally judge our hit quality in sparring by how it felt over how it looked. If I feel a tiny tap on my hand, I'll keep fencing, but if I feel like I would have certainly lost a finger or severed a tendon, then I will stop and reset. I'm not 100% sure I know what you mean by "flicks" but you can rest easy that we do account for hit quality.
I support turning as long as you can keep your sword in the way
Kid thought he was in a movie that's why.. kids.. hence why they learn young.. and become legends from their mistakss
i have no clue how i got this recommended but im glad i did. this brings back good memories of when my dad and i used to sword fight. hope you have a nice day
You might consider checking out HEMA!
Dayum
you might think it's crazy. I don't even care. there is no denying that - it's hip to throw zwers
This is why I very much dislike a lot of tournament rulesets that disallow strikes to the back of the head. That was the best and most efficient way to punish that thrust. It was good fencing, but many TO's will consider it unsafe, despite having requirements for back-of-head protection.
Hi homie! FoTR here :) Strikes to the back of the head are strictly prohibited everywhere due to risks of concussions or worse. If strikes to the back of the head happen by accident (whether someone steps around and cuts at the back of the head or someone exposes it) then that’s out of your control, but someone shouldn’t try to PURPOSEFULLY aim for that. It’s reckless and puts your and your partners safety at risk.
@@shrimp_with_rabies under that ruleset, pretty much every judge would rule the cut in this clip as illegal. How does one differentiate "accidental" targeting versus the opponent presenting the target?
@@Interrobang212it's an angle issue with the filming. I was the one filming and I can confirm that the cut was aimed to the side of the head and it looks like it's targeting the back because the person receiving the cut ducked the head. Sorry I couldn't get a better angle on this.
@@Interrobang212in tournaments, this is generally the discretion of the judges. Sometimes you get warned for targeting the back of head, but if it's super apparent that the receiver in question is exposing the back of head due to bad form or bad habits, they will get warned for exposing the back of their head.
@@Interrobang212because you can literally see them duck their head bestie With them continuing forwards with the thrust, it’s possible that if they didn’t duck their head I could’ve hit the back of the head, but that would’ve been ruled as accidental because I didn’t specifically aim for the back of the head
Not sure why this was in my recommended but I'm not mad. Sir Nicholas is my boy. All my homies hate Clark.
Damn, I look fine as a pancake..
When there's no grass left to watch growing..
Let's go nicholas
The most random thing ive seen
jesus christ its larpers who are furries. We're fucked
the funny part was that he thought he held us off for 5 minutes when only 2 minutes passed
Whoa - never seen knives before! 😱 Go Lauren!
AYO!?
Cool video
Lots of fun cutting with David today!
I know absolutely nothing about what I'm watching, but looks pretty fun LMAO
It is called HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). We fight with swords based off of historical manuscripts written by historical fencing masters! Feel free to check out our other stuff!
I had a great time fighting with you guys!
Those who flee and run away, live to flee another day!
0:42 - 0:45 had great responses. Normally if I saw that in a movie it'd make me skeptical and think "yeah but how often would an exchange like that really take place?", but when it happens naturally it looks and feels so cool. Like "I did the thing!" lol. One time I was sparring with my cousin and I tripped, spun around and caught myself on my hands and knees. I knew my cousin wouldn't show mercy, so I swung my sword behind my back at the best angle I could think of at the time and. Clang. We both paused for a few seconds. Then stopped the fight because we were too busy going "Holy shit!" lol. Anyway, a comment for the algorithm, keep going with the videos!
Thank you for the comment! Dominic (The guy in maroon) actually went on to become the winner of the first ever intercollegiate Texas HEMA tournament! Nicholas in the orange would end up taking bronze.
This is super cool and I'm glad that you were able to start building up and bringing people into what you love! To see people enjoy a hobby or sport that they might not normally get into, when their assumptions about it fall away and it clicks with them, is really fun. It might sound hyperbolic to say that it was a brave thing that you did, but I don't think so. Putting not only yourself but something you love out into a community or society is terrifying and overcoming fear IS bravery. Great work!
this was fun to watch
It was an excellent tournament! We were very fortunate to have Brandon, Paige, and Alex from Dallas School of Historical fencing to judge for us. It made everything run very smoothly.
Good job from both of you guys! Keep up the practice!
Surprised this was recommended to me, but oh well. Seemed a bit intimidated and hesitant on counters, but that'll just come with experience. Form was good and measure was surprisingly well kept, good work, keep it up! 👍
Goddamn that’s such a beautifully crafted sword
It was actually made by one of our Artisans! They make & sell custom steel swords in our Discord!! ⚔️
@@swordfightingguild yeah… I’m the artisan lol
Add a spin!! 🎉😄
This is so wholesome X'D I hope the advertising helped bring in new members! Y'all certainly put a lot of work into it!
It drew in some new initiates! I was a little stressed because we hadn't choreographed a fight before, and it was THE DAY AFTER OUR TOURNAMENT. But it was pretty fun!!
I really like that both fighters used left and right Vom Tag mostly, and Nick used a good deal of Boar's Tusk. It made for a more active and technical match, with more clear strikes, than when both fighters use Breve/Pflug, which is really common. Bravo!
RED VS BLUE!
Message from Sam (UTD Diplomat): I felt SO TERRIBLE once I realized what I'd done, and I'm so grateful the club Presidents agreed to create an extra pool for the matches ending in doubles where people who doubled could still advance to the Winners bracket. I apologized vehemently to Freddie afterwards.
