I have a silent brass as well and while it has a lot of resistance making it only something I'll use when it's not normally a good time to play, it still is probably the best solution if you're like me and also want to hear it or record it electronically
In the beginning, it was really tough to get used to it. But since I didn't have any other option to play the trumpet, I had to adapt and learn how to use it. The biggest challenge I face is keeping the notes in tune, some of my lower notes go out of tune when I play with the silent brass. But anyway, it's all part of the game.

do you have any tips for playing higher with braces? i played 4th trumpet last year in jazz band but now im lead😭
As someone with braces, I don’t have any problems playing trumpet, what is your struggle?
@@TekTheCow it’s kinda hard to explain, but it’s like they get in the way.
@@magneticmango325 that I can’t help with much, I would just try a different embrochure for time being, I have never experienced that before.

Sure, about 12 years ago, I used braces too. At that time, I was playing with a Bach 1-1/4C. But since you're in the lead chair, my best advice is to practice long tones (like in Vizutti's Book 1 or Cichowicz) and flexibility exercises, such as the Charles Colin method. These will help strengthen your lips. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

I can hit somewhat high notes on trumpet but not too high. Do you have any tips on what you do with your mouth to push out those high notes?
Sure, I have a few tips to share with you. Keep in mind that this is a medium to long-term process. I'm on this journey as well, and on tough days, I can't always hit those high notes. I usually save high note practice for the end of my study sessions. The books I highly recommend are: Vizzutti's Book 1 - especially the last section on upper register and endurance. Charles Colin's Advanced Lip Flexibility. These books will help strengthen your lips and support your ability to play high notes. I hope this helps!

tip. DO NOT lift your shoulders when you breath in!! This creates tension where it shouldn't in places like the shoulders and neck muscles. It will block airways preventing you from achieving maximum airflow.
