Mount Whitney, Sierra Nevada, California, July 2024.
A beautiful sunrise at the summit of Mount Whitney. The hike up was during the night time, to catch the sunrise at the top. There was no wind going up except at the summit; windy and cold.

This short video taken from the upper trail nearby Bullfrog Lake captures the whole Kearsarge Lakes Basin. Mount Bago, East Vidette and University Peak can be seen as well.

One of the most picturesque day hikes I have done in the Sierra Nevada. The views from Mt. Bago are stunning. The trail takes you through the Kearsarge Lakes Basin, and if you take the upper route you are presented with fantastic views with East Vidette in the background. Moreover, the Bullfrog lake with the mountains behind is stunning. Once you start going up the ridge towards Bago Peak the h...

This was a special one. The hike to the last lake is great. Once you start the steep incline, everything moves on that mountain, making it a quite dicey adventure going up. I had to check every rock I put my feet on or grabbed on. However, the higher you go the more spectacular the views are. I had to turn back 20 meters away from the summit, since I was denied passage through the last notch by...

The peak offers stunning views, Owens Valley to the east and the Great Western Divide to the west. The hike is about a marathon in lengths, you gain about 6500 feet in altitude, and overall is a great day hike.

Going up and down the chute from the Trail Camp to the Trail Crest was the highlight of the hike. There was plenty of snow on the chute, which made the experience memorable.
Mt. Baldy via Baldy Bowl, mountaineering trail, winter hike, March 2024.

A day hike to the top of Mount Baldy. I took the San Antonio via Baldy Bowl trail, went up Baldy Bowl, on the right hand side. The snow was good and windy at the top. Overall, a great experience. Crampons, ice ax, helmet, trekking poles, sun glasses, sunscreen, layers - all were needed.

A day in the desert. Cold in the morning, hot throughout the day even though it was December. It goes without saying that there is no water available. The risk of becoming disoriented is very high since most of the hike is done on the desert’s floor surrounded by boulders. GPS, Compass, paper map, full awareness of the surroundings should be a must.

Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. Like 👍3
what lovely pictures!
Superb!👏👏👏
Can you imagine that lake to the top of Moraine all ice. Crazy. Mind blowing how deep it is from top to lake. I went up left side then up towards ridge/Sill-Pol. Gorgeous sunny day. Snowed 1.5 feet that night lol.
👍🏻
It’s still possible to get up there with the road closures on 1?
I was able to drive to Kirk Creek Campground coming from south (the campground was closed but it’s right by the trailhead) The closure on highway 1 that day was 1 mile to the north of the campground. I suggest to call and check where the road is closed.
Hi, was the trail overgrown or easy to stay on track. I have a goal to hike this but understand it’s challenging. After the fires I wasn’t sure it was going to be possible but now I see some have ventured up it again.
it was a bit overgrown after Vicente Camp all the way to the road. Then, once you leave the road walking towards the peak, the first mile from the remaining 2.5 has dense vegetation up to the knee. Long hiking pants will help.
great video. These are good shots. How much water did you carry?
Thank you. I had 5 liters with me, I run out of water on the way back, about 1.5 miles before reaching the trailhead.
@@rodeus Thanks. Appreciate it.
Great job man. A quick question to you … did you camp there, and if so is it possible to pitch a frameless tent at the summit? Some of the Anza peaks I’ve done have little to no room.
I did it as a day hike. On Villager I believe there were one or two spots for setting up a tent, on Rabbit I do not remember to have seen any.
Loving the snowcapped mountains.
This year was special, for sure.
Pleasant hike ☀️. Fun to watch during these gloomy northwest days!!
Thank you. There were lots of switchbacks, and the views from the top were really nice.
Gorgeous. Hello neighbor state to the south!! 💚💚
Those mountains are covered in snow this days. Still hard to believe :)

Beautiful Southern California !
We are fortunate to live in this part of the world.
You captured some of those key aspects of California with this one. 💚
Thank you.
Our first ascent to the top of Telescope Peak was February, 1972. We used 12 point salewa adjustable Crampons and a aluminum Ice axe. No need for rope. Very icy and windy on the final trek up to the summit. Steep slopes on both sides up the final leg. Then the proverbial signing of the climbers log on the summit. It was windy and cold. Our thermostat read minus -10 F with the wind chill factoring in. So cold that one of our polaroid cameras froze up the shutter mechanism. Great views of Death Valley Below. Subsequently through the years we climbed Telescope Peak three more times, twice in the winter and one in the spring. Back in those days the Wildrose Ranger station was still occupied, but closed during the heavy winter period. I remember also signing in at the Wildrose Station as a courtesy for the Ranger that we were heading up the road to hike up to Telescope Peak.
strong video
thank you.
@@rodeus of course!
Beautiful!!!
it was a great hike indeed. thank you.
Pretty snow mixed in there. Good job capturing it. Excited for what’s next.
Thank you. It was the first snow of the year.
Great shots from Sunset Peak! The layers of mountains make the view really unique. Memorable sunset too! 👍
great job! i'm getting ready for this hike and i'd like to ask a couple questions: 1) how long did it take to summit? 2) total time? 3) how much water did you consume? thanks Christian!
hi ed, thank you. it has been a few years since i did the hike, if i remember correctly i had with me like 3l of water and a gatorade bottle (i do not drink a lot during hikes). total time was about 6.5 hours, i started around 4:30am or so. hiking early in the morning helped since i avoided the heat . . getting to the trail head a day before was a pain, since the road is unpaved and had to drive like 10miles per h or so to not damage my car. suggest to look on alltrails and check what others are saying about the water they brought with them. (obviously there is no water up there). depends a lot on how much you typically drink during a hike at high altitude.
@@rodeus thank you! i know the roads well. i spend a lot of time up there every summer photographing the milky way
