THORPE PARK Vlog May 2024 - NO QUEUES on a sunny midweek visit!
I usually visit Croydon for A Place In Space (Comics etc.) but now I have something else to check out, thanks. :D
Firstly, thank you for checking out the video! Heart of faming is definitely a worthwhile Croydon visit! Its only a few minutes walk from A place in space, so totally worth dojng both on a visit!
Found this channel through the Heart of Gaming video. I don't believe we've properly spoken but I know of you through IRL connections of whom I won't mention here for privacy reasons. What a nice channel you've got here; I'm looking forward to future videos!
Hi there! Thanks for checking out the video! Thats really nice! If you see me about please give me a shout - its always nice to speak to people with mutual interests, especially with mutual friends. Thank you for your kind words too - We’ve got a ton going on over the next few months so I hope the videos that come from that are entertaining!
FreePlayCity is probably the best for me, but really depends when you go and which machines are working as quite a few cabs are in a permanent state of disorder. Seems like they prioritise maintenance of the rhythm games over standard cabs.
@5:25 "Not sure what that is" You're having a laugh 😮 That's R-Type! One of the best side scrolling SHMUPS. Shame on you 😉
Hiya, thank you for checking out the video! Ah yes at first walk around I didnt get R-type, but in truth i’m not a big fan of the series! I didn’t really get into shmups until the first time I played ESP ra.de in the early 2000s and it pushed me more towards the cave style so R-type absolutely got missed. Going back to it felt a step back. Im a big fan of Akai Katana for side scrolling goodness, thats a bit more my jam, but everyone is different right?
@@DansOutandAbout Indeed, everyone is different and I'm guessing I'm from an older generation to you so this would explain it 😀 I've never been a big fan of bullet hell shmups coz I usually find it difficult to tell the bullets from the scenery but horses for courses 😉 Keep up the good work 👍
Oh absolutely! There are so many games out there that I have no Idea why people love, but they love them so passionately there must be something I’m missing. I think I really should give RType another go now, i wonder if I’ll see that spark that everyone else seems to see. Ill let you know! 😀
That arcade is much better.there are many classic arcades nowdays, shop as well seems to be potential market for them.
Im hoping for another boom, it would be great to see more spring up around town. Thank you for checking out the video!
@@DansOutandAbout in the uk, many are there, shops, and classic arcades are getting big ok
Retro is back.
Oh hell yeah!! Thank you for checking out the video!
@@DansOutandAbout great news my good man, respect to you, first saw market for retro games return 1998,even saw a retro magazine, but wow its back doing well.
Hey dude I actually met you in stitches I was the brown guy with some of my mates, and yeah stitches was a bit annoying coz we didn't get to experience the jump scares coz of those girls, I remember you were like going the other direction coz you weren't having it 😂. it was nice meeting you though never knew you had a RUclips channel.
Oh damn! Awesome, its good to hear from you! Firstly,Thanks for checking out the video. It did feel like we were a bit left out so hanging back a little was better. I really really liked the costumes and theming in there, but you are absolutely right about missing alot of the scares. I hope you had a wicked rest of your night though and enjoyed the other mazes. It was a fun day/night for me!
@@DansOutandAbout yeah the costumes looked so cool especially the toy guy who flipped out of the puppet show bit Yeah we had a blast it was one of my friends first time going Thorpe Park and they loved it, I managed to do hyperia twice with one of them being in the dark, and most of the thrill rides so all in all it was a good day! Hope you had an amazing day too
Thats awesome! Its such a good event! Hopefully see you around the park at some point!
I work in survival games and I was wondering if you’d care to elaborate further on what you didn’t like? It would help me with my actor feedback as I wanna ensure that everyone enjoys themselves; I’m sorry you didn’t have a good time :( ❤
Hi there, thank you for checking out the video! Firstly I want to say I’m not a fan of being touched in mazes to begin with, I wouldn’t go into a maze like enola for example. Please dont get me wrong, the agression and intimidation levels from the actors were on point, but as soon as the touching started, it killed any of build. Going into the maze, I knew I would be touched but was assured it was just being guided, but the first thing that happened was i was grabbed and shoved into the cage section. The majority of the maze i was shouted at and couldnt hear any of the story elements that the other actors were saying and to be honest had no clue what was happening after the electric chair part. It was like a speed run with, really weirdly, actors just wiping their hands down my back. It really felt like it was just an excuse to touch me. I’ve had a look online myself and it would seem I’m in the minority and most people absolutely love the maze. It may have been a bad run through (as you know these happen and its no ones fault) or it may be the touching element put me off. Whatever my thoughts are, the bulk of your audience love the maze, so keep up what you are doing. Dont cater for a miserable old git! Ive had messages from lots of people telling me im weird for not liking the maze, so I think that shows you what the bulk of the audience think. I hope all that makes sense, and I also hope the rest of your season goes well!
I think actors should really understand or read people coz there are some people who don't like being fully grabbed or they're not interested in participating in the roleplay aspect but also what's stupid is the fact that I was told I'm going to the "wrong exit" like wth and then you send 40 odd people to another direction like come on
@@suf-star7866 Was that in the part with the tunnel before the arena? If you got guided by a girl with short red hair thats me; It was my first shift ever as an aggressor character and I can assure you I didn't have a good time either lol! Also; some customers go through our actors run by accident which is not only dangerous for us and the customers but it ruins the maze for you guys as the actors run can literally lead right to the end and you've missed the whole thing :( <3 sorry you also didnt have a good time; I will say though that the senior host should have told you that SG does include being fully grabbed; You can tell them you'd prefer not to be touched and they can tell us that before we begin <3
@@xitsEch0 honestly I'm not really sure where it is lol I'm sure it was near the level 2 sign, but yeah also the whole electrocute scene I missed out because i thought i could just start by walking out from the room from behind
@@suf-star7866 Yeah that would have been me lol I'm so sorry!! We have to stay in character when people go the wrong way so we have to shout :(
It's pretty sad if a tiny arcade like this is the best in London 😢I miss Trocadero... If you don't mind playing emulated MAME arcade games on machines then Power Up at the Science Museum is good! They have hundreds of classic arcade games to play on them as well as 160 games consoles spanning 5 decades. You get a pass to go whenever
Thanks for checking out the video! The Trocadero was such an amazing arcade, now theres nothing to replace it. I’ll definitely check out Power Up the science museum, thank you so much for the tip!
very useful information, thank you
Thank you for checking out the video! I’m really glad its helped and hope it makes your visit a little bit smoother
I spent much time and money on the initial D games in Las Vegas and Goodge Street, good times!
Thank you for checking out the video! I think some of the people commenting (including yourself) probably spent enough to nearly buy the cabinets 😂 im glad the video has pulled up some good memories for you!
what a awesome beard mate👍👍 :D :D :D
Ha! Cheers mate! Its a bit of a mess at yhe minute. Thanks for checking out the video!!
“Buying a ticket for survival games” ☠️
😂 im not sure he knew what to say! He was a good sport though! Thanks for checking out the video!!
DeadBeat is such a good maze. So glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for checking out the video mate! It was brilliant! The theming, the smell, and he actors - it reminded me of some of the dives I partied in in the early 2000s! I was so impressed with it, hopefully they take that and use the high standard with the replacement for survival games! 🤞
@@markyates7452 that whole maze was so dark which was a problem, and also one lady breathed in my mouth and I said you need Colgate 🤣 that stunk and followed me for 10 seconds after
@suf-star7866 You got the full experience then 😂
How did you lose that wrestling match 😮 you were so far ahead 🤦♂️
😂 Awful right? I was too busy yakking to the camera 🤦 I’ll get them next time 😂 Thank you so much for checking out the video!!
Was a regular there back in the 80s and 90s. Upstairs was where all the arcade action was, Gauntlet, Tetris, Raiden, 3 Wonders, a row of fighting games at the back, later they had a Daytona USA by the door that I spent all my money on. Downstairs were pool tables and I never went down there. Towards the noughties the internet became popular, EasyEverything opened 24/7, arcades became secondary places to visit and there was MAME to play whatever arcade game you wanted, what a revelation that was.
Thanks for checking out the video! Its all fruit machines and betting terminals upstairs, i was going to pop my head in but everyone looked super sad in there so didnt bother. That sounds like a killer lineup of cabinets and im so glad the video prompted such cool memories, its been so much fun hearing about the different eras of Las Vegas. The internet, mame and xbox live killed arcades in a big way, so its so nice to find places still open and some even thriving. Thanks again for checking it out!
oh wow!!! 'no 73 best game ever created', I totally agree!!! There used to be one in the arcade opposite Holloway road tube in the early 90's I must have fed their Wrestlefest cab tons of coins, every Friday after work...
Thanks for checking out the video! My parents used to take me to an arcade where they had wrestlefest on a big rear projection cabinet, i spent every 20p if saved in it and loved it. It never gets old! Take it easy!
Las Vegas is a fun spot, but London's never been the same since Casino down Goodge Street went. The community there was fantastic.
Thanks for checking out the video! I’m hoping I can find some good spots with good community in them, but I’m feeling that it might be a bit of a stretch. Im back out on the hunt in a few weeks and I’ve got a couple of places lined up that will be the closest to what I’m looking for. I’ll keep everyone posted! Cheers mate!
I agree. Used to be a regular at Goodge st during late 90s early 2000's. Uni days.... good times
@@estabandesousa9017 Thanks for checking out the video! Once we find it, its going to be good! That early 2000s feel and awesome games!
What happened to the Namco Wonderpark? I think it moved to the Tracadero but I used to turn up, put my 50p down and wait my turn to play Tekken 3. They would have a preproduction cabinet there. fun times.
Thanks for checking out the video! I do remember Sega world (im sure it was called that!) at the trocadero - maybe that was originally the Namco Wonderpark? I distinctly remember playing timekillers there and nearly falling over with glee after cutting someones arm off! I do know the vs cabinets ended up at the heart of gaming, but speaking to mark on my visit, he sold them on during covid. All these memories everyone are sharing have me really nostalgic - im so pleased everyone is sharing!! Cheers mate!
@@DansOutandAbout Always nostalgic talking about arcades. Consoles killed em off. I bought my first and only psx purely because of the money I would save from visiting the arcade to play Tekken. Never occurred to me then that the feeling of clashing some complete random players in an arcade with a crowd watching could not be replaced, not even by online more recent versions.
@@SonixSquad thats so true. Online just doesnt cut it for fighters for me. The atmosphere of an arcade in the late 90s / early 2000s just cant be replaced
who could stand that fucking music for more than 5 mins
Used to go here every night after work on the walk down to Charing Cross from Oxford Street, from the late 80's. So many memories, played the first ever Street Fighter (with the big pads that used to give you blisters), R-Type, Salamander, Pit Fighter, Mortal Combat, Tekken and Bubble Bobble to name but a few, and put too much money in the Bar X fruit machines. All used to be upstairs back then and was just video games and fruities. Happy days!
Thanks for checking out tbe video! Im so glad this is kicking up so many memories! Its a bit different now, but i guess they have to follow the money. Its a shame really, but getting to play super street fighter 2 was alot of fun! Thanks again!
Walked past so many times. I’ll have to pop In next time
Thank for checking out the video! Its easily done on a super busy Saturday in Soho - I was really suprised how quiet it was on a weekday. Its definitely worth popping your head in if youve got 30 mins to kill! Cheers!
Dark Escape 4D rules, the 3D stuff is super effective
Love that! Its tucked away nicely in the corner - always nice to find cool games like this hidden in an arcade! Thanks for checking out the video!
@@DansOutandAbout No worries! Also the Namco cab is a Namco Noir, it's what you'd play Tekken Tag 2 or Tekken 7 on.
Oh you diamond! I was like “viewlix? Viewlix clone…” and it has the namco/tekken branding 🤦 thanks for the info!
NQ64 is a arcade bar in soho that's pretty nice.
Ah yes! I did see it, but I was in town too early to pop in. I was thinking of hitting NQ64 and Four Quaters in the same video to have a bit of a comparison - The problem is that I don’t drink, so ill have to find some recruits to come with me and let me know if the bars are any good! 😂 Thankyou for checking out the video as always!
Really good video, but the background music is really distracting 😢 Do love a bit of background music but can you lower the volume for when you’re talking please?
Thank you for checking out the video! Thank you also for the feedback, I’ve stopped using background music for that very reason now. Unfortunately I cant change it on this particular video, but future videos will be quieter for sure! Thanks again!
Mate, I got suggested this video and I’m so glad you’re giving props to an arcade I’ve been for years. The owner of HoG (as it’s known) is an awesome and nice guy. Playnation actually hosts card game tournaments quite a bit and I go there to play MtG every week. Such a blessing to go too and the only reason why I visit Croydon. If you’re thinking of going, you honestly won’t regret it. HIGHLY recommend it. ❤🕹️
Thank you for checking out the video! Its a great arcade and the guys working were so very kind and welcoming. Like you said, its definitely a worth while trip to Croydon! Thanks again for checking out the video and the recommendation!
Once the screen that had a 15 minute timer went I didn't want to go again
Is that the timed credit? Or is it a different thing?
@@DansOutandAbout You put £1 for 15 minutes game time They had DB fighterz, Marvel vs Capcom and others I can't remember £4 each and we would play for a whole hour
@@warpingtartfat7569 ah yes - by the sounds of it they may have replaced that with something to make more money. Its a shame as those cabinets are really good fun. Thanks again for checking out the video!
Defender and galaxian i played in there early to late 80s..the memories
I love that! You can still play galaxian on a repro cabinet 😄 Thanks as always for checking out the video, I hope you can get down there for a few credits!
The golden era was the best time for video games. Hypersports was in there later too, competition for high scores was fierce on that.
Ah see im a 90s gaming fan - wwf wrestlefest, tmnt, simpsons arcade, street fighter 2. Thats definitely my era! The memories you guys are sharing are great, thanks for taking the time to!
Cheers for the tour. Not the biggest of places but some decent machines. The Hackney place sounds mega. Have a fab weekend mate.
Thanks fir checking out the video mate, really appreciate it! Im looking forward to heading up there, its sounds like a wonderland! Have a great weekend too!
Arcades have basically become 'things you can't play with a TV and gamepad'
@@TizerisT. This is a really good point - Arcades are turning into either ticket/prize style locations now with elaborate over the top games like mega space invaders, or japanese rythum/dance style games I’m off investigating at the moment at another spot in London, ill report back this week! Thank you for checking out the video!
Some modern "arcade" games I've seen are literally smartphone games enlarged on a massive screen... crossy road, doodle jump etc... sad
Its mad right? When you go into an arcade a doodle jump or candy crush is the best game in there. Such a shame
your ears look proper stupid
Las Vegas, wardour street W1 it was the cheapest mid 80s
I haven’t been in there for years! I’ll jave to check it out again!
I like the shades. What are they? Good vlog
Thabks for checking out the video! They are Locs oversized square shades. They’re about £15 on ebay 😄 Cheers!
You missed an hidden rhythm game arcade downstairs just a heads up for anyone interested in that stuff
Oh blimey! I didnt know it was down there! Ill pin your comment for anyone visiting - thank you for the heads up!
@@DansOutandAbout Reading about it now and apparently you need to ask at the desk for access?!
Im absolutely going to pop in the next time im nearby to have a look. Thank you for the tip!
@Max-nz7op Yeah ask the desk. They should have no problem
Nice one, ill defo check back and ask - see, I would never had known if you guys hadnt said!
Casino Arcade off Warren St used to be my fave, great shmups and fighters with a nice smokey atmos, this was 20 years ago now 😅
I did start looking to see if its still there! 😂 thanks for checking out the video - im going to head to freeplay city soon to check out what they have - i think its shmup/ fighter/ ddr heaven in there - i cant wait to take everyone along!
Casino was owned by Electrocoin, closed in 2013! The last arcade they had with fighters was Vegas opposite Angel tube stn. That closed in 2021. Electrocoin also own Funland, I've asked about fighting games but there aren't any plans on the horizon yet. The only joystick games are Tetris Grand Master and a couple of anime fighting games downstairs. But you have to ask staff to let you in there! It's a hidden entrance... Like a speakeasy!
Thank you for the scoop! An arcade speakeasy sounds so cool! Imagine if there was one with fighters and shmups only…..I want to start that secret society now 😂 Thanks again!
Haha sorry for spamming, I wrote a long ass comment on your Las Vegas Soho video and I think it self destructed! There are a few "not spoken about publicly" places, due to various reasons... It's a grey area when it comes to importing Japanese arcade games, so people don't want to say what they have, but the players will know it's there.
Not at all! All info is good info, so thank you for commenting! It really is starting to sound like a secret society right? 😂 ill do some digging and have a nose around. If i dissapear, you know i’ve found out too much about one of these arcades! 😂 Thanks mate!!
I cannot thank you enough for this. I had so much anxiety about figuring out how this would all work on the day for the first time
Hiya! Firstly thank you for checking out the video and im so pleased it helped! Its not always simple when it should be and if we can help make it even a little easier we totally will! I hope you have the best time when you go and if you get stuck at all while you are there, the staff are fantastic at Thorpe park and are always happy to help. Thanks again!
That looks like an amazing retro arcade. It's so refreshing to see that retro arcades are making a resurgence. Modern arcades don't even come close. Their nothing but glorified gambling halls for kids. Mainly ticket games and claw machines than actual video games. But, I digress. Thanks for sharing, Dan.
Thank you for checking out the video! I’m on a mission to find the best arcades in London, so I have found that your opion on modern arcades is totally valid and pretty much true! I have a video coming out at the end of the week from a visit to Funland at the Brunswick which does show this, but with a a little difference. Check it out if you have a chance to see if the small difference would be enough to get you to nip in if you were passing! Thanks agin for watching!
The hype is building as of this morning only 6 days to go till opening night/day , loved to update so good to see how good deadbeat is gonna be and cannot wait to get back into Stiches too :)
Thanks for checking out the video! I really feel like this is going to be the best season all around. The hype is real!! I’ve got to wait till the 17th, so if you go before, let us know what deadbeat is like!!
Can’t wait for fight nights. It seems to get better and better. I’m hopeful based on the teasers that creak freak massacre will have a room in trailers this year. Big top then though creak freak it has the potential to be the best maze at Thorpe
Thanks for checking out the video mate! Idon’t know why, but the buzz seems to really big this year. Trailers is great and that addition would be very cool! Im looking forward to Deadbeat too, I want it to either be super intense or super camp like michael Jackson Thriller. I dont mind which!!
love the content, keep it up 😤👽
Thank you so much for watching and thank you for your kind words! I’m hoping to get some cool halloween trips sorted so stay tuned! Thanks again!! 😄
Out of season looks to be the way forward 😯. Adventure Island near us closes most of the outdoor rides about now and it has a definite impact on the general busy-ness (or lack of!) down the seafront. Have a nice weekend mate.
I did have a look at the opening times for adventure island and theyre only open on saturday and sunday now which is a shame, but i guess its a ghost town otherwise! Im going to still try and get down there at some point soon! You too mate!!
There's a newly opened pinball club in Croydon too which you should check out. Pinball Republic
SO sorry about the late reply, the YT app seems to miss some comments. Thank you so much for checking the video and I saw they have just opened the pinball club in Centrale, I'm hoping to get in there at the weekend for a couple of hours. Its very exciting to have basically a pinball hall opposite a wicked arcade like Heart of Gaming. Putting Croydon on the map! Thanks again!
im so jealous 💔💔 going tomorrow but sunset isn't until 8pm, idk if i can hold out until fright nights... my only complaint is there's too many lights, i'd kill for a full dark ride
Thanks for checking out the video 😄 Check put the rusty bit of track around the water feature, once i spotted it i couldnt stop seeing it. I think Frightnights is going to be so good for it. Im going on the 17th, sunset should be about 6pm then, so if youre going later in the season, itll be even better! Have an excellent time tomorrow!
@@DansOutandAbout im going on the 31st, sunset is due to be about 5:15 pm so i'll definitely get at least one night ride in. here's hoping they fix the splash down later this month!
Thats awesome!! You’ll totally get 2 night rides in atleast im sure of it. You’ll have to zoom round the mazes early doors. I hope you have the best time!
Great review! Love your channel! Any chance you might set up a Patreon or membership option so I can contribute to this awesome channel?
Thank you so much for checking out the video and im glad you like it! At the moment I dont have anything like that, but potentially in the future. Im working to prove the videos all the time and hopefully the bext few will be enjoyable too! Thanks again for checking it out and for subbing, really appreciate it!
Nice review mate. Please review more arcades!!
Thanks for checking out the video and I’m glad you enjoyed it! I absolutely love arcades and will try to get to some more soon for review! I’m off to Asia in November and have marked a couple of good spots to visit for review. Ive also heard of some other good places aroubd the UK to try out - Id love to find the UKs best arcade. If you have any good recommendations, please do let me know!
I second this! Please do review more arcades in London - eg can you find a good one in North London, West London and East London - to accommodate people that don’t necessarily want to travel that far. That said, I’m definitely going to make the effort to go down to Croydon and visit this arcade and shop, they look really great. Thanks Dan for the great review. Really liked your friendly presentation! Great work!
Thanks for checking out the video! I’ve been looking for some more arcades in London - alot of the listed arcades are bars or non-retro/ fruit machines and gambling. I will do my best for you guys and find some cool stuff to explore! I’m off to asia in November, so if you want a fix of Japanese arcades, keep your eyes peeled! Thanks again for your kind words!
This is a great arcade, i not been yet so ur video helped me see what Mark is up to, I do arcade repairs around the country... So if you still in the area, lookup FreePlayCity and the promoter 7Ten (Toby), that place is off the hook for the games u like, considered the biggest in Lundon town.
Hiya, so sorry for the late reply, I didn't get a notification! I am hoping to visit FreePlayCity in a few weeks, it looks incredible in there. I'm really looking forward to that one. I've got a few other spots in town to visit too. It seems to be quite a popular subject too, which is great as I now feel like I have to find the best in town....not the worst job haha! Thank you for checking out the video and the recommendations!
@@DansOutandAbout no worries .. im in the west country and more involved with arcades around here but the biggest in the Country is Arcade Club (Bury) although they have two other sites and thats worth a visit
That cab on 6:30 used to be mine, sold it to them a few years back…good to see it’s still going strong. It’s Rhythm Tengoku (part of the Rhythm Paradise series) really fun It got a GBA port that’s decent too
Thank you so so much!! Such a fun game, I actually spent ages playing it! I’ll have to look to find the gba cart for it. Thank you so much for the info and for checking out the video!
@@DansOutandAboutthe GBA port is Japanese only, but there is a translated version out there👍
@Sinisteve awesome info, thank you so much!
and another intresting fact is that's it's on the sega naomi hardware witch the arcade counterpart to the dreamcast 👍🙂
@@GAZZ707 yes! All of those basically perfect ports onto the dreamcast - the dc was totally ahead of its time and I still play mine regularly. Dynamite dekka 2 has sucked up so many hours of my life its unreal 😂
Worked in Croydon back in the naughties and this looks amazing, thanks for the video 👍👍👍
Thanks for checking out the video! Its changed quite a bit over the years and its a bit different now to what it was then. Theres a lot less shops for sure! If you get a chance to visit the heart of gaming, definitely do, its such a good hidden gem. If you can get the family or some mates together its a blast. Cheers!
Nice, Looking to visit there soon! Great video...subbed!
Thanks for checking out the video! Its totally worth a visit if you can, definitely check them out on facebook for updates on games and opening times. Tbanks for the sub too, really appreciate it!
Some of the rides looked terrifying 😄. Some well priced food! Typically such places price through the nose don’t they. Will try and get the family there at some point. My son would definitely appreciate all the dinosaurs! Have a fab weekend.
Thanks for checking it out mate! The dinosaurs are great aroubd the park, its so much more immersive than i was expecting. The rides are great, but i wont be getting on that giant swing! 😂 its definitely worth a look for a trip! Cheers mate!
