Honestly, every arcade we visited, the rhythm game players were incredible! I managed to get a £10 pop n music contoller and pop n music 1-4 for £15 on dreamcast in a shop around the corner from there. Im awful at it, but one day ill return to Osaka to claim the pop n music crown 😂 Cheers mate!

Unfortunately I couldn’t get to Shinjuku on this trip, but I did get to Akihabara, and unfortunately I was asked by staff not to film in the big Taito station ….. unfortunately in alot of places in Japan filming seems to be at the discretion of staff on shift. I was allowed to film in the Arcade in Super Potato and Namco station so that video is in the works!

@@red2 its really strange, I was talking to a member of staff mid filming in this Taito station, but got asked to stop in Akihabara, another arcade in Namba and a small arcade in Hong Kong. I stopped staight away, but will be showing the footage i did get at some point. Its a shame, particularly the arcade in Hong Kong which was dank, smokey and dirty 😂

😂😂😂😂 its going to be hard to beat this comment I hadn’t even thought of that! There is a cool arcade in Tokyo where you turn the cabs on when you want to play, then off when youre done! I’d love to find that one at some point, but its going to be a while before I get back there

I thought it was quite interesting there, its in a bit of an odd location - it would have definitely been a central london kind of attraction, but its ok for what it is. Yes! Ive got my eye on Pixel Bunker for early 2025, it looks awesome!

@@katrinhasler1423 Honestly it was so beautiful there, the Hong Kong park is seemingly the quietest disney park in the world. The Tokyo park was mental in comparison 😬 Yes absolutely!! I’d love to go to Europapark with you two, weve been trying to work out a time when it will be warm and quietish 😁

Thanks for checking out the video! They sound like good opening times to me! If youre interested, theyve just put out their Christmas opening times on facebook, it looks like extended hours. Im not into racers too much, but they seem to be super popular, maybe they might get them in the future with enough requests?

Oh noooo! We did miss it - I have such a hard time seeing 3D I can only take so much on a park visit. We left it till last and then the day was gone, bit if a schoolboy error there. I feel like this might be a reason to go back if I have a layover in Hong Kong on my next Asia trip - thank you for the tip!

I wanted to show a bit more of the frozen ride as it was incredible, but the copyright strikes are strong with these guys! 😂 I loved the park, its meant to be the quietest of the Disney parks with low wait times - we visited the busiest Disbey park in Tokyo a few days later and the wait times were up to 5 hours for some rides 😅 Thanks as always for checking out the video!

@RetroEdUK It really was! They have a really simple queue assist program too which made the day even better. This is probably my favourite disney park to date!

Dont apologise, thats a fair opinion! There is definitely a shift in the games that are available now. Ive got a few videos coming up on japanese arcades and it shows an even bigger gap and change in whats popular. Rythem games and collectable card games make up the majority of popular games there and most newer fighting games are ports of console games with usb connections on the control panel to bring your controller from home Its such a big shift and it makes the place seem nearly unrecognisable from the arcades in the late 90s, let alone from the 70s. VR seems to be the next big thing in arcades….it seems like such a disconnect from my idea of a 90s arcade and your idea of a 70s/80s arcade! Ive found a couple of arcades further afield that i think might be more your cup of tea, im looking to visit in the new year and will hopefully be able to report back on!

@ thanks for the in-depth reply Dan. I wasn’t being critical of your videos btw - in fact I’ve just subscribed. I’ll look forward to seeing your adventures in the future.. But good look finding anything old skool. I’m not sure that such an arcade even exists in the UK today (one that contains just old cabs and pinball machines)? I saw a few places in the USA that are run by collectors of the 1980’s stuff - which look amazing. I’m just not a fan of the weird Japanese dance, cards or win a prize machines - the ones that pay out in reels of tokens and you need 10,000 tokens to win a packet of Haribo! Blackpool is full of them. It almost feels like gambling now and they’re expensive machines for the time you spend on them. I know that home entertainment video games such PlayStation has killed off the arcade business and kids today expect more than just Space Invaders. The future is AI and VR like you say.

@ Thanks mate, i really appreciate you taking the time to reply and I really do agree with you about the redemption machines - they are absolutely taking over! I worked in an arcade in 2001/2002 ish and redemption was creeping in then. I remember leasure link (who i actually went on to work for repairing fruit machines and jukeboxes) carting out a ninja assault cabinet to replace it with 2 redemption macines. It was a sad day! Im hoping to pixel bunker in milton keynes at the beginning of the year as they look the most promising for retro. Im hoping they let me film my visit! The next video ive got lined up is an arcade in osaka - if you check it out, youll see how “gambling but not gambling” is pushing out traditional games and also that many new games have a controller port to plug in your home controller 😬 thats the killer!!

I remember 2 in particular in the late 90s, top floor of the drummind center - i specifically remember xmen children of the atom in there, and there was a small one on surrey street market where they had xmen vs streetfighter. I remember seeing someone play as rogue for the first time and it blew my mind!

​@DansOutandAbout Yep, my mate worked in the drummand center one but we didn't really like that one. At one point there was 2 in Surrey street market, one bang in the middle on the side of the shops just past weigh and save. The other was right at the top opposite the goose pub. We were part of the street fighter 2 crowd so was allways in the one opposite walkabout on George street, rember playing final fight there for the first time. Good ole days!, lol. Will definitely take my son to heart of gaming next time I'm down in Croydon though!

Alot of these machines are from the Trocadero, someone mentioned that Mark was an engineer there and got the machines when the arcade closed. Its great to get to play these games in an arcade in London but one on the scale of Trocadero would be epic

Good idea. The seating for the first part on the wooden benches wasn't great, but the arcade machines are really what it's all about 😊

Its not usually this empty, I visited early on a weekday so I could get lots of footage without disturbing anyone 😊 it was starting to fill up as I was finishing up. Its definitely busier on a weekend too

Thanks mate! I am going to Akihabara, i want to do a quick video on the arcade above super potato there. Lots of retro games! Ive been to Namba City today which is like the Akihabara of Osaka, i popped into the big Taito station there for a tour, keep an eye out for that one soon!

They’re cool right?! They’re called Sukajan which is like an embroidered baseball style jacket. You can get them with so many different characters on, but the godzilla ones are the best ones ive seen!

@DansOutandAbout been watching a few of your videos. I much rather someone with boots on the ground and who is a fan of the genre like yourself, other than crap that's just paid advertising for overpriced arcades. There's an honesty with your vids (calling out prices etc) that I'd much rather watch than some of the idiots out there. Nice one

😂 Sorry about that! It might not be worth the trip alone, but Taiwan is definitely underrated. Ive got another video coming up in the next few weeks on a claw machine only arcade where you play for your weekly shopping. That was pretty weird and wonderful!

@DansOutandAbout My partner would love that. She is obsessed with Claw Machines and if I knew where to get one, I'd buy her a decent one for the home.
