Part 2 - Dodge Charger - Brakes
In this video we planned to replace the brake pads and lines on a 1974 Dodge Charger, but we got the wrong brake pads so we just changed the lines. This video has a similar counterpart on the channel, edited by my dad. We are competing to see who can get the most likes. It is a test of our different editing styles. So please like this video so I can win!

Was there a large brass bearing in there where you poured the Babbitt?

Great video! Great machine! There’s a lot of rebuilding you should be doing while you have the tin work off of it. Mainly to get the reversing shaft clutches working well. Is a weak spot on the Insleys.

They seem to work good just need to get them all a set properly. Yes there was a brass bearing in there just figured it was a lost cause to go that far.

@ Ok. How did you remove it? I had a K-12 about 30 years ago. The brass was worn to an oval shape (ID) and I jacked the house up and rolled the tracks out from under. Had to drive the brass out from above. I turned a new brass bearing and went about 0.0035” oversize and used liquid nitrogen to shrink slip it back in. Was quite the job but I was going to use the crane in my excavating business. The gudgeon (vertical center spindle) was badly worn and had to be welded back to oversize and then ground back to size. I did it all myself when I was young and full of ambition. It turned out pretty well. The severe wear problem comes from operators letting the in-haul rope get in or touch the dirt and sand then pull the sand inside onto the drum. All that dirt that gets hauled in falls onto the pot gears and then during use and rain storms, gets washed down through the grease and brass bearings. A good operator never lets the rope touch the ground or pull it through the dirt bank. Very few good operators out there anymore. They’ve all retired or died.

@ sounds like you did it right. The brass was all gone on this one and wallered out it took 14 lb of Babbitt and I ran short lol. This one is pretty bad, I’m a 3rd generation local 150 operator I run a 1976 American 5450 at work driving pile for a bridge contractor. I hate seeing these things scraped! Would buy them all if I had the money.

@ Same here! Mine was maybe better in a few ways but worse in others. I’m not knocking either one though and am grateful that you are saving it and giving it care and attention. Cheers and a Merry Christmas to you and all! Thanks for the videos!
